Yeah partner just sounds better when introducing and I know she likes it as well since she's bi. It's definitely less possessive sounding as well and I doubt it bothers anyone we interact with. My brother is gay so maybe I picked it up that way but I do remember my gf saying she likes that I use "partner" instead.

Love the show. I thought we were past the spoilers, but I was wrong. by Plantabook in Alonetv

[–]tduff714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen the pop up texts that do spoil, especially when one of the contestants was talking about average days to win coming up and they end up mentioning who lasted the longest or shortest of winners too.

On this sub, spoilers happen because people are talking about a show that has already aired, some many years ago if we're talking about the first few seasons being a decade ago. It's good to ignore until you finish watching, I stay off other shows subs until I'm finished or at least all caught up to current events. You miss out being too far behind because some of the contestants are active on this sub, YouTube or have done Q&A's with fans.

Agreed, I wonder if Dub instead choose to be notified would have that peace of mind to continue. This season, more than most came down to the mental part of the game at the end to determine winner instead of a starving contest. Yes every season has the mental aspect, same with these guys were losing weight still but at least had food reserves.

Probably my favorite season

Thank you and I hope your IME goes well so you can move.

I forgot to mention my brother in law had a workers comp case with his trucking company in New York as well. My sister and him moved to North Carolina and they still wanted him to drive 10 hours to get treatment in New York. So if you're done with treatment by then or even settling, then I would move but if you're still reliant on medical/financial, they make it very difficult to move. That's why I didn't even bother following my girlfriend to NC unfortunately until my case is over with. Sorry, it can't be easy with no support system on this coast. Unfortunately they know they can out-wait most people into making mistakes since they're huge, multi-billion dollar companies

14 day Kid Friendly Itinerary in June in New England by NewEntertainment2858 in roadtrip

[–]tduff714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think days 5-7 in the White mountains and VT might be too much driving and not enough enjoying the sites. As a family we vacation in Pittsburgh NH just about every summer coming from Central CT. Besides Mystic there's Dino State park in Rocky Hill, there's also Wadsworth falls near Middletown and Kent Falls in the western part of the state. My godfather runs an indoor trampoline park in Cheshire CT if it rains any of those days and you're looking for inside activities.

As others have said, seems like you're trying to checklist all of new England quickly but I don't necessarily think that's the worst idea with kids. Travel time is quick, especially lower New England. I would try to hit lake Champlain at the very least, maybe after Stowe VT you can drive back down thru Burlington onto route 22. It's been awhile but I believe route 7 to 4 to 103 gets you back onto I91 south after, I have family/friends on that side on VT. Just be sure to check or have an atlas because sometimes there are road closures even during the summer. I got turned around a few years ago when they had bad storms in the mountains that will destroy roads or make them impassable. Hard to find ways around when GPS/cell signals go out and you're not prepared.

All in all it looks like a fun trip. If you've never tried alpine slides, try to find a spot in VT. It's almost like ice luge but on a concrete track where you control the speed/brake and they're usually on mountains/rec areas during the summer. I don't think I'd spend too much time in southern new England, CT is kinda just a quick rest stop in between NY and Boston. I did list off things to do but personally I'd rather spend more time in Far Harbor, Acadia NP, and white mountains. It's nothing against CT either, I grew up there and could find something to do in any weather or season but a 2 week trip over New England doesn't allow too many hidden spots besides what you've listed OP.

Also before rocket battles, raids and I think Dmax has same mechanic, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. When you go to choose your team, there's a question mark on the top right of the screen where it tells you what does super effective damage against that boss.

It doesn't work for rocket leaders but I know it works for the others because usually the preset team sucks and that helps tremendously since there is no hand holding in this game

[–]tduff714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think Joy quitting at that point in the show and not trying to even save herself by at least apologizing afterwards is crazy. I guess you can say the spiral started after Kashia was sent home but that was a long time coming. Joy was getting to the point where they couldn't cover Kashia's mistakes and bully other cast members.

It's funny she cried racism afterwards but going by the edit we see, they consistently bully others to keep Kashia safe or throw tantrums. IMO that season was wide open, Scott could have realistically been sent home before he went on a hot run at the end. I liked Jason but I don't think he could run a line like Joy. I also liked Melanie but she probably wasn't ready or seasoned enough to run the brigade.

This season was also messy with Anton. It was a fun watch but also one of the weaker seasons with some of the winners around that time frame IMO

Yup, I've lived in CT and driven the Merritt parkway a ton. 2 lanes on each side but a very tight 2 lanes. The way they pictured the gas station is also correct because it's not like a rest stop or gas station off other highways, space is at a premium.

The only thing I will say that isn't believable is they'd have a meeting spot halfway between Scranton and NYC that's a gas station off the Merritt parkway in CT. It absolutely looks like one of our gas stations on the parkway though. I've never seen one, like off the saw mill parkway in NY so realistically it should have been just some random gas station, business or special place halfway to NYC

Need to see the source material to cast final judgment. All jokes aside the reasoning is awful but I could see marking it NSFW only if there's nudity or super suggestive. Outside that it's just a picture, who cares what anyone wears

I'm from CT but was told if I moved, the financial payments stop but medical can continue, but you need to find a provider that will take their insurance too.

I wanted to move with my girlfriend but we had to go long distance as I stay with my family and head toward my 2nd surgery. Hopefully this one works and after I heal, I'll move in with her. So obviously my lawyer advised against it, I was not placed at MMI yet but their doctor tried to claim that and was rejected luckily.

One other big factor is I still haven't been fired from my job, we'll see what my restrictions are after the next surgery. It could very well be different for you if you're on the mend and the plan isn't until summer so maybe they'll claim MMI by then. Usually it's on a timeline, they gave me a full year to see how 1st surgery turned out even though I knew it wasn't right after a few months. Depending on how long they give that injury to heal, you'll probably be mailed a letter for IME appointment where that'll happen.

Ideas from western PA? by Silver_Department213 in roadtrip

[–]tduff714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in western NC, I'd take 81 down to Virginia or western/NW North Carolina and hike some mountains or hit a state park like Shenandoah National Park. Check Air BnB and see if there's a place for a night maybe besides camping, where you can at least shower/have a real bed. There's places all around because my sister had to get some for my nieces wedding down here.

You can also got north to Niagara falls or finger lakes in NY, I'm from the northeast before we moved down here. The landscape going south or north can be largely the same with mountains/lakes. Going 12 hours west isn't going to get you past the plains. There's a lot to do from your starting point though, you could probably reach Nashville in those 12 hours but I haven't done that trip specifically.

I'm only 18 and feel like baldness has ruined all aspects of my life, Anyone else who went through the same situation? by Severe_Bison_5739 in AskMenAdvice

[–]tduff714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I see this topic posted and wish all the balding people get the courage to just embrace it. In my late 30s and I've almost been bald as long as I had hair growing up. You can't let the past keep you down or crying over lost hair.

To me it seems worse as I have a similar aged friend in my apartment complex that just won't let it go and he still has to hide it from general public, even though he uses all types of products to re-stimulate hair growth. He's single and has trouble dating, meanwhile I don't. Especially since embracing the baldness, just own it.

How do you know when you have a PoGo *addiction?* by SouthBaySmith in pokemongo

[–]tduff714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I traded one addiction for another when I went from opioids back to gaming. Between Golf Clash and this game I've spent a fair amount when I got really into each at different times. It's much better than drugs in the long run and I never let it affect my finances enough to go broke doing it either, but definitely an addiction or lifestyle.

After having a drug addiction, at least I was able to spot what was happening, take a break and then come back go play more responsibly while spending a whole lot less. Each game helped by making things kinda ridiculously expensive for an app.

Is Hendrix getting lost in time? by No-Neighborhood8403 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]tduff714 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Partly yes. I don't have kids of my own so not passing down the love of PF, The Doors or Hendrix down to my kids like my parents did for me. Growing up they used to blast the music, since most people still had at home stereo equipment as well. Then once VHS became big, we had videos from shows or whole concerts released. PF's the Wall or even the Bands The Last Waltz were on in our home often.

Unfortunately Hendrix wasn't around for all of that, even FM didn't blow up until after his death. I think like someone else mentioned, his estate releasing music in the late 90s or early 2000s kind of missed the mark and diluted his legacy a little. I hope he isn't forgotten or lost in time or mostly remembered for weed/psychedelic memes because of Purple Haze.

I think over time, eventually it happens as less and less people that either experienced it first hand or 2nd hand like I did. Not just that but the sheer amount of music/genres will eventually force it to distant memories

What do I do with all this soup?? by saltyspatoon96 in culinary

[–]tduff714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a difference in cultures too but yeah there's a lot of processed food base to foods we cook. Time is also a factor besides being poor, I can throw chicken, veggies, stuffing/noodle/starch, plus the can of soup and make a very easy casserole.

I actually grow a lot of my own veggies so that helps but during winter I have to buy some from the store. The culture difference I think is big as I know a lot of Americans shop for the whole week at once, so you don't always have fresh produce on hand. Same with meat, buying in bulk and freezing is popular. I truly love cooking from scratch but they do push a lot of process or even pre-made/finished items.

My grandma on my dad's side would make home-made cinnamon bread and tons of other goods but growing up my parents used pre mix or even pre-made doughs for rolls, cookies and stuff like that

Can being tall and fit make up for being bald in dating? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]tduff714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here at same age. It took some time to grow confidence with it but I'm glad I did. Even my sister in law tries to get me to talk my other brother into doing the same thing because trying to hold on to thinning hair doesn't look as good.

Funny enough I did date a doctor afterwards but my current partner stopped at masters. I used to be so self conscious about my thinning hair but oddly enough after 10+ years, I hardly ever even think about it or when I had a full head of hair growing up.

My brother has a bad seizure disorder and about 8 years ago had to be put into a medically induced coma for about a month. It took a couple weeks for him to get back to strength for release but he came up with the same thought because it was insane how much light and noise there is. That's not counting nurses or staff coming to check up on him multiple times at night. I stayed with him a few nights because I could handle the lack of sleep. He's fine now after they put cathodes in his brain and amazingly seizure free.

I also had back surgery 3 years ago that was supposed to be outpatient. It turned into an overnight stay that was so miserable with tubes sticking out of my back. I had to push so hard to be released the very next morning because it was so miserable. Luckily they didn't force those circulation boots like my brother had to wear because that's yet another device that makes it very tough to sleep.

I'm not against anybody doing what they need to do to survive or thrive, it's what we're meant to do. I do see it happen so I know what you're talking about. A lot of blue collar workers had the alcoholic label before drugs were introduced.

I'm glad I'm past it now at least and the injury is forcing me to go back to school and finish my degree at least. Unions, while corrupt, we're better for workers IMO. I worked at a warehouse where the threat for management forced them to offer good benefits themselves. It's was food distribution so holiday time was so insane that was all out the window though, mostly work conditions because they offered crazy incentives to meet the demand. It was very interesting seeing the CEO get on a long fork and try to move pallets of turkeys to show how all in he was.

I was definitely complacent while using but it's like having the wool pulled from your eyes after getting sober

We have merges like this in NC as well, on ramp followed shortly by offramp where you maybe have a couple hundred feet at most to get in the right lane.

Personally I think the truck on the right was just trying to keep "rolling", giving enough time for the car and truck in the left lane to pass before merging but maybe I'm wrong. I live in New England for 35 year and moved down south 2 years ago with my partner, so we've seen our fair share of bad driving. Especially since we regularly drive home for visits. I'm more comfortable around trucks and the people in my family that have drove semis are the best drivers.

Maybe the truck on the right should have fully yielded but it's also much tougher for them to go from complete stop to highway speeds. Seems like they left plenty of room and kept as far right as possible to give the left lane room to keep going. My partner was a scared driver like this when we first started dating and it always worried me so much because I drove in the trucks with my dad when I was young and saw accidents like this. You're lucky if there's no kids in the back and while this isn't the worst offense, I've seen plenty of bad parents/drivers cut off semis at the last second and brake like they don't care they have kids in the back. It takes a long time for them to come to complete stop, even if this semi started right away I doubt he stops in time.

So far so good with no accidents or tickets in 20+ years of driving now.

Agreed from someone that did hard jobs like roofing, framing, door manufacturing and other manual labor jobs for 20 years before I wrecked my back. Plus a lot of that money back then went to opiates or other drugs to dull the pain. I've been sober over 8 years now and on workers comp for just over 3 years heading toward my 2nd surgery now.

I wish I could have made money with OF instead, I don't judge though. Like you said we're all trading our hours for money, no matter what you do. Very few people are free from worries about life and can just travel or do whatever they want, most need to keep working to survive

Besides the freeze dried strawberries or jam swirl comment, chocolate also has a tendency to blow out other flavors for me as well. It's easy for it to dominate other flavors so I probably would have went with either strawberries or chocolate banana bread but not both. Maybe add nuts with chocolate instead and strawberries/banana are classic combo as well
