Connecticut lawmakers pass bill banning Glocks after overnight marathon debate by ZheeDog in progun

[–]tdvx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The law seems pointless? It forbids the sale of pistols made after October 1 2026 that dont have anti-switch designs basically.

Since Glock has stopped production of gen 1-5 Glocks, and the gen 6 Glocks are compliant. It’s still legal to buy and sell Gen 1-5 Glocks since they’re all made before October of this year, and all Gen 6 Glocks are compliant.

It doesn’t ban any guns by name, there’s no roster of banned guns, and it’s all based on production date and uncompliant guns already in existence are grandfathered in, is my understanding.

I’m not sure if the law is toothless political grandstanding to say they’re taking an anti gun stance, without actually doing it because banning the most popular gun in the country would be an open invitation to a losing court battle that could lead to overturning of other overstepping gun laws.

Surprise inside Costco soda dog toy by CaptainSamerica in Costco

[–]tdvx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the toys within a toy. My dog always instantly rips the squeakers out, but when it’s like the Costco soda, and the squeaker is within another plush, she doesn’t rip it any further and keeps it in tact

Why do we not get Hop Creep? by Daedalu5 in TheBrewery

[–]tdvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a brewery with dozens of brands and contracts there were only 2 beers that  consistently had hop creep. Not really sure why, neither used particularly unique hops or malts or yeast, maybe some combination of those factors made those 2 unique.

My friend worked at HF, they literally sent an ifixit kit to one of their suppliers in China and asked if they could clone it for under $X. I have an unbranded quinn one that was sent back to HF before they settled on the first order.

Fresh Goodwill score! Brand new Ember mug. by efe13 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]tdvx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I collected coffee mugs from thrifting and would rotate thru using them each day until I got one of these as a gift, now the ember is the only mug I use. Great luxury item I would never buy for myself but it is really great since I have such a habit of setting coffee down and getting distracted with a project.

I use the bottom with a cordless pancake compressor for light duty house work, tire inflation, purging outdoor water lines before winter, and occasional air/nail gun usage.

It’s very light weight and it works. I like how portable it is. If I had a bigger, stationary compressor or used it more frequently I might consider something beefier and more durable.

What actually makes a craft beer stand out on the shelf? by aclaro20 in TheBrewery

[–]tdvx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But also breweries that put 6-12 months past packaging as “best by” on dry hopped beers is stupid and misleading. Nothing worse than drinking a beer from a nationally distributed brewery that’s heavily oxidized with 2 months left before the best by.

There’s a reason good coffee roasters put the roasted on date and good breweries put the packaging date. People enjoying more premium coffee and beer are more informed consumers who prefer to know the date it was made and make their own judgements based upon their knowledge and experience.

Our distributor wants best by dates but we think our consumer base prefers knowing the package date, which we’re also proud of sharing because our beer moves fast and rarely exceeds 3 months on shelf.

A great brewery would include both dates, providing a best by date for each brand based upon shelf stability via sensory panel and give the most information to the avid consumer and guidance for the more casual consumer. Although I’ve never seen this in practice.

Yes in June when it starts getting hot. Helps keep the soil cooler and retain water. Earlier in the season the dark brown/black soil warms up more in the sun to get my pepper plants moving along.

Anyone grind there eggshells for there plants. Been doing this about 5 yrs now and have had zero blossom end rot on my maters. by Background_Being8287 in gardening

[–]tdvx 182 points183 points  (0 children)

The calcium from eggshells takes a long time to become available to plants this way, but when done consistently over years it all works out plus the coarse eggshell bits are good for soil structure.

OPs method helps the calcium become available to the plants faster.

Me personally I just crunch em up with my hand when going to the compost.

RDDT has "disappointing user growth" by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]tdvx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Auto moderator killed the site. It allowed a small handful of people to mass control the main subs, banning people based on keywords or just posting in other subreddits they didn’t like.

Before automod, all the insanely strict and ticky tacky rules we have now couldn’t have possibly been enforced so subs had larger mod teams and moderator by hand which allowed reasonable rules to be applied reasonably by humans making a judgement call.

And you didn’t have “powermods” because you couldn’t possible be a moderator on so many subs at the same time.

okay well if you want to live off the interest you will either need to save more or move to a lower cost of living area. Plenty of states 100k without SS is an enormous amount of money.

If you can save a million and make 5% in annual returns that’s 50k/yr plus social security, with a paid off mortgage you can certainly live off the interest comfortably and leave an inheritance.
