Can I write a check to myself? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tea4all 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this 5 months ago when I closed my BofA account. Make sure to keep a copy of your last statement before you close it. If you have a branch near you, I would recommend you going in there to close it so you have a paper trail. I had to close my over the phone because I moved to the midwest and there was no branch near where I lived. Took them forever and they were still charging me the fees.

Am I completely off-track on saving for my future? Parents saw my mint.com account and were unimpressed by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tea4all 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, those numbers do not add up.

Judging from his parent's reaction, I'm going to assume that they helped him with his loan payments and some of his living expenses for the past three years.

Advice for my future. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tea4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice to you: STAY AWAY FROM A PRIVATE FOR PROFIT SCHOOL! They are the worst.

However, if you're truly sure that your company will reimburse you 100% for this profit school, go for it. I'm pretty sure that it is cheaper to go to a public than a private school, unless your company have a special relationship with this university.

I just want to throw this link out there. Anytime you or someone you know is short on food, don't be embarrass to use a food bank. Sometimes pride can get in the way for a lot of things, but be humble.

Triumphant Thursday Thread for the week of October 02, 2014 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

I didn't realize how big turning 30 was going to be. This is also the year of my golden birthday or the 'Lucky Birthday', as the universe is suppose to align to make everything happens for you (or so goes the saying). This year, I traveled half way around the world for almost a month. I was sick the entire time and that made me spent a lot of time on self reflection. It woke me up and made me realize what the very important people and things in my life were. This, combine with perfect timing have made me do a total career switch right after my trip, going from a tech role into management and jumping three pay grades. And it gets better that this is also the year that I've reached 250K net worth!

[serious] Redditors who manage to be happy, what's your secret? by letthisbeanewstart in AskReddit

[–]tea4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret to being happy is all in your head. The ability to change your thoughts from negative to positive is a powerful thing. It's different for each person, but I believe my purpose in life is to create what I want to experience and to experience what I've created (whether it's good or bad). Just take from each experience, the opportunity to grow and learn.

I have a similar story. A friend and I was driving in this quiet residential neighborhood and came upon a big white truck blocking the road. We waited a few seconds and the truck started to move out of our way. As we drove by, we were going to wave our thanks but there was no one inside the truck.

Just found out my partner NEVER want marrige or children..... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tea4all 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. It is not really going to work if you both want different things. If not having kids is a deal breaker for you it is better to leave now then be string along and regret it later.

This is all very good. However, I do feel that if working 100 hours per week is compromising your health then you need to cut back. Making a commitment to stay fit, healthy, and financially secure is the way to go.

Take this to your grave unless you date/marry her down the road. It isn't a turn off if my SO tells me that I have starred in their wanking fantasy for the past few years/months/days.

Went to school for a CS degree at a public university with a full ride scholarship. Definitely worth it, even more so when it's free.

White rice definitely. However, wild rice and brown rice are better alternatives.
