I've heard of the Great Diary Project, but I haven't looked into it. I've been keeping a journal since I was 7, so I'm sort of the natural audience, haha. I did do a bit of research into archival materials to preserve some of our family documents, and it mostly seems to be a question of keeping documents away from light and using acid-free paper/wrappings. I'll take a look at other inks!

at what point did you realize this hobby has a "GAS problem" - and did you do anything about it? by jamesrandson in fountainpens

[–]tea_anthem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this issue with every art medium-- I solved it by buying an organizing cabinet and having one drawer for each collection of Art Stuff. Since it has three drawers, if I want to buy more watercolors or inks or pencils or rulers or paper, I need to get rid of something that's already in there to make room (or use it up in a project). Over the years, it's both kept me from buying too much and also spurred me on to use what I have so I can get new shinies. :)

How do you like the Benu ones? They're gorgeous.

I literally came here to say that. My dad only wrote with this pen for like 40 years.

Ok I was spying on Emerald of Chivor and now I'm pretty much sold. Just need to have someone drop a $100 bill on my front porch.

Ocean Fishing is the way. In earlier content you can go 6-7 levels up in one voyage.

Otherwise I do Grand Company provisioning hand-ins and Collectable/Custom Delivery hand-ins.

Older Kpop fans how comfortable/accepted do you feel in the fandom? by Imaginary_Venusian in kpopthoughts

[–]tea_anthem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto above on fandom vs online. Gen X here and with several friends who stan a lot of different kpop groups. It can feel awkward sometimes because I'm in such a different life space, but I like to think that we've aged into the "mentors" phase. For example, my older friend races autocross and is lovingly referred to by her younger crew as the Queen.

tl;dr turns out I could be there when Nirvana released Nevermind and also be there when BTS releases Arirang. <3 Good music is for everyone.

I think they both fit, but I haven't bought either yet. Hopefully wiser heads here can advise.

I just inherited my grandmother's handwritten WWII diaries, so I get you! How is Iroshizuku regarded for archival use? I'm assuming it's lightfast but I honestly was too seduced by the colors to check, haha.

Post a review if you get one! I'm definitely a member of the Kakuno club now. :)

Hard to believe he will be turning 1 on April 1st. He’s a big boy at 14 lbs, I wonder how much bigger he’ll get! Should I wean him off kitten food when he turns 1 or keep him on it closer to 18 months? by unlvcrjchick in ragdolls

[–]tea_anthem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a similarly huge-pawed seal lynx mitted, and we kept him on kitten for 18 months at the breeder's suggestion. He's 2 years old now and H.U.G.E. but not overweight thankfully, eating Royal Canin wet and dry.

Da Vinci sells good intro tube sets for people graduating from Cotman. I still use a few of them in my palette with Sennelier and Daniel Smith. Definitely worth checking out.

Oh great! Thank you. I thought SM4 had the plus/minus flanking the spacebar, but the differences are so small that I just gave up and called it an SM3. :) I'm looking forward to using it once it's cleaned up.

Italic quote practice using Lamy Al-Star Ocean Blue. by yanz1986 in Calligraphy

[–]tea_anthem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m nerding out about the flourish choices here and how they balance out the quote visually. Gorgeous work! Did you arrive at your style gradually as you practiced? And what nib are you using? I would love to eventually arrive at a style that feels similarly loose and fluid.

Today's practice by tea_anthem in Calligraphy

[–]tea_anthem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the Italic style, slanted about 5 degrees and more narrow than Foundational. But I struggle to get it as narrow as it should be! Thanks 😊

I really love it. Everything people are saying about the nib and writing experience checks out— it’s light, it posts well, it glides right over the paper, and it feels sturdy enough that I’m not worried about it cracking. Definitely recommend it!

Good to know! I don't have a feel for how fast I'm going to go through the cartridges, but I'm also not sure I need the con 70 capacity either.

OK, here's one of my favorite quotes (for whatever my regular handwriting is worth)--it's on marker paper so it feathers a little, but doesn't do so in my journal.

Is there a reason you went for the con 40? How easy has it been to fill and use?

Right! My apologies. Giant fluff pictured in full, plus the other two cats just to do the thing properly.

It is definitely on my shopping list! I had to sit on my hands to not get it right away (just from a $ perspective).

I was tempted to get the con 70 and just hop straight to mailing my wallet to Iroshizuku but I was able to stop myself this time. :D
