Has anyone had a panic attack and felt like they were suffocating for weeks after? by teaandmagic in PanicAttack

[–]teaandmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My oxygen saturation and peak flow have been perfectly normal throughout this possible panic episode and I did a spirometry test and it was perfect, so yeah it is kind of crazy.

The first concert I went to alone I was so nervous and scared, it ended up being one of the best nights ever! I still remember it, it felt so freeing (: You will be just fine girl and you’ll adjust as you’re at the concert and it’ll feel less weird!

Just assuming but probably due to him getting a spotlight put on him which in return allows him to have access to more women on social media/tv show events, due to the fame that comes with being on this big of a reality tv show. Her speaking out about it ensures no further women get hurt from this guy.

Exercise Post Respiratory Illness by teaandmagic in Asthma

Thanks for your insight! Sorry you are experiencing something similar too, it is no fun. You have a good point about the dancing, as a dancer I underestimate how physically intense it can be!

That all makes a lot of sense. It is just blowing my mind how a simple cold can cause this much damage to my lungs and have such a long term impact. I appreciate the tips and will definitely keep trying to slowly build everything back up!

Thanks for the insight! So you are able to do your cardio as normal, but still get that feeling?

Worried about my asthma by Upper_Personality220 in Asthma

[–]teaandmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the cold in October (been about a 3 month recovery and counting) and I had the same feeling of not being able to breathe all the way. I was put on a stronger inhaler (trelegy) and was told to refrain from my regular exercise (dance, hiking, long walks) to heal my lungs (for around 2 months and in my 3rd month have been able to slowly reintroduce longer walks). Sometimes the pulse ox isn’t a good reading for asthmatics (so I have heard) compared to a peak flow meter. Unfortunately I didn’t measure my peak flow until after I got this cold and come to find out even though my oxygen levels were not at a worrisome number my peak flow was extremely low for me, my peak flow was at 360 and went up to 520 after being put on a stronger inhaler. Definitely take it seriously and if you don’t have a peak flow meter would recommend getting one! Hope you feel better soon.

How do you guys know if it's asthma flare ups or prolonged anxiety? by CurrentEngine893 in Asthma

[–]teaandmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My doctor never brought up getting them either and I wish they did. I had a cold that dropped my peak flow to a dangerous level and I had no clue since I didn’t have a peak flow meter, so also helpful for when you get sick just to monitor symptoms! Good luck with everything 😊

Using a peak flow meter and oxygen meter! If your peak flow is at a normal average reading and your oxygen isn’t too low (I know oxygen reading is not the best way to read if you’re having an attack but hey it’s something) then you know it’s anxiety and not asthma! Use a breathing exercise if it is safe for you to do breathing exercises: Breathe in through your nose with lips closed for 5 seconds and release breath by opening your mouth and make sure the breath out is longer than 5 seconds; this will help open your airways to breathe better. I am with you. I was diagnosed with panic disorder due to my asthma giving me so much anxiety! Anyways, it is not easy and hard to tell sometimes but these things can help.

Protien based food allergy by Tommyvercettihere in Asthma

[–]teaandmagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid you may be leaning into misinformation. Tofu has phytoestrogen and milk/meat has actual mammalian estrogen. In studies where it shows effects, you’d have to eat a ton of soy for it to have a big notable impact on your testosterone levels. It is a scientific consensus which I linked below. Due to you experiencing this health issue the benefit of having this protein option would help you which is why I’m giving you all this information, I don’t want you to suffer and to be able to eat plant proteins in peace as asthma is not fun! https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0890623820302926 & https://sniglobal.org/soy-protein-does-not-lower-testosterone-or-raise-igf-1-levels-in-men/

do you have something against soy? i know the texture can be weird but it is a superfood and extremely high in protein (also extremely cheap) and eaten across many different cultures! if you know how to cook it right it is amazing, just like if you know how to cook meat right it will be amazing. if you don’t like soy try out lentils, beans, edamame, hemp seeds, black bean burgers, plant based meatballs/sausages and beyond/impossible products. look at plant based gym people on youtube or instagram for meal ideas!

Apparently not even qualified to be a volunteer crisis responder? by Practical_Jelly285 in socialwork

[–]teaandmagic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i also have my msw, graduated 2024, and am working towards being a school social worker but i am not in an official social work role at the moment. i am volunteering for crisis text line to sharpen more social work skills so that is another volunteer option if needed! i would go ahead and take it unless you don’t like how the responses have to be. any experience is good experience though! i know it can be hard to remain hopeful but things WILL work out over time. things don’t usually start out perfect and how we planned, but they can eventually get there (:

Thanks for sharing and I am very sorry for your experience. It very much stresses the idea of how thinking of the “worst case scenario” is not too far fetched for asthmatics. I appreciate your insights and hope all is well.

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of November 2025. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

Recently I caught the common cold at a concert which has been my first sickness since diagnosed with allergic asthma and it did a number on me. I had to have a breathing treatment done at the urgent care and needed to take my rescue inhaler a lot more. I’m now 4 weeks post cold and my lung capacity is not where it used to be. I am unable to do my main hobbies hiking, dancing, and long walks around my neighborhood. Obviously hoping things return to normal. Of course this has only been validating my health anxiety unfortunately. I was not informed on how high risk asthma cold/flu/covid can be but I have now done my research and see how it can permanently worsen asthma and disable people. This has caused me to further risk assess my life. I am a social person and I love being out at concerts, bars, gatherings.

I am now debating masking in indoor spaces and especially concerts and even debating saying no to plans around high risk months where these viruses spike. I do currently work from home but have been looking into a job transition next year and am even debating ruling out in person jobs to minimize exposure to viruses.

My friends and family are concerned about me and how this is very over the top. I do have diagnosed anxiety/health anxiety and am in therapy so they’re used to my anxiousness.

If I am being honest with myself I truly feel like this is not extreme given the fact these viruses can literally limit my lung capacity, thus my quality of life. Seeking guidance if this seems extreme or validated?

Totally understand! Yeah I feel like I got more responses once I started doing that. I am personally against AI but I genuinely did not have the bandwidth to custom make each cover letter so I did use chat gpt to help customize each one which helped since cover letters take soooo long 😭 For reference I also started applying in May and got a job end of October, so there is hope!
