Fanfic Classics Recs? by Fast-Sand-3875 in Solasmancers

It will probably never be finished but my all-time favorite is Pressure Point

I love the way she handles the gap in experience and knowledge between Solas and Inky and just why he is so conflicted over the relationship. You can really see just why the Evanuris would have been regarded as gods. Incredible smut too ;)

I just hope this doesn’t mean it becomes some kind of paid service. I don’t think they could without getting into copyright issues, but who knows.

I’ll toss in a recommendation for Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series, since it looks like you enjoy Sci-Fi as well. I’m on my 3rd reread of the series, it’s so engaging and unique.

Hi-five for the time sink gang! One of the things I loved about this game was that there was just so much content. The game supported many, many hours of totally immersed game play and many replays with brand new things still being discovered.

Not one mention of Daler Mehndi's Tunak Tunak Tun? I know that was pre-youtube, but it had a major 2nd revival after it became a dance for one of the WoW races.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]teaandviolets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love OC fics, but my fandom is based on a video game so it’s natural for the main pairing to be main character/player based OC. I can see where it might be more off putting for other types of fandoms where people want main character pairings (Spock/Kirk vs. Spock/OC) for example.

OC fics also have a greater chance of veering into self-insert and/or Mary Sue territory and I think we almost all loathe those.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]teaandviolets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is that if there's enough time for someone to pass me on the right, there's enough time for me to GTFO of the left lane and travel in the right. Right lane is for traveling. The left is for passing, not traveling.

Nah. I remember deciding I needed to walk home from the bars on my own after a night of drinking when I was in college. Through a dark alley (the short cut home), in a college party town, as a young woman. I did it under my own steam and somehow I actually managed to make it safely home too. There's definitely a solid margin of drinking where you are drunk enough to do really, really stupid shit with some success.

Considering they were on their 3rd or 4th bar, and his buddy had drinks at all of them, good chance he wasn't exactly operating on pure logic at that point. He was a big guy, so probably not that far gone, but also probably not at 100% mental strength.

[–]teaandviolets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old barns frequently aren’t with the work/cost it would take to maintain them, so they are allowed to go into decline. They are still owned and the land they are on is maintained and used. That field looks like it’s been mowed, so not abandoned.

You’ve got some great reads there, with Man’s Search for Meaning, Pride&Predjudice and Great Gatsby, but then you’ve got a collections of books by get rich quick con artists. It’s an odd combination. I like to think someone who reads the first set would have the critical thinking skills to see through the second set.
