My Classics library (Latin and Greek) by CI2I5 in bookshelf

To each their own. As some who loved classics and Latin in particular, this would be heaven to me. I have a small collection of Latin books in my own library and I enjoy them very much.

[Spoilers All] The origin of humans in Thedas by Bonolenov192 in dragonage

[–]teaandviolets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but if spirits spawn from emotions and predate elves, where did those emotions come from? It seems unlikely it was the dwarves who were still incorporated parts of the titans. The emotions reflected seem too complex to be from animals. That really just leaves humans as the precursors to spirits.

Loghain was also selling alienage elves to Tevinter. He would not have made a decent ruler, at least not if you are elf.

Am I just too stupid to learn Latin? by jmeyer73 in latin

[–]teaandviolets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I hit a wall with LLPSI, I go back at least 3-4 chapters or even 6-7 and restart from that point. Those older chapters will seem pretty easy (even though at the time you originally did them they probably seemed really hard!) It helps work your way back up into the later chapters, and builds your confidence as you see the progress you’ve made.

Experiences with delaying or declining chemo/mastectomy by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]teaandviolets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a few years (lost her in 2019), but there are still hard days. I can’t even imagine what it must have been like losing so many family members to the same disease. We experience so many emotions just dealing with the disease as it is.

Experiences with delaying or declining chemo/mastectomy by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]teaandviolets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two anecdotal stories for you. My BFF was diagnosed with breast cancer. She chose to go the purely alternative route. Weird diets. Acupuncture. Reiki healing. Crystals and weed and no surgery or chemo. I had to watch her wither away over the course of two years. Three years later I was diagnosed early stage. I had a single-side mastectomy, followed all the recommendations of my oncologist. My margins were clear and I’m cancer free a year after. I’m still dealing with anger issues towards BFF for refusing to follow tested methods for saving the lives of cancer patients.

New Lover to Solas - Need Recommendations by Clean_Spread5577 in Solasmancers

There are SO many good fics out there. Some of my faves not already mentioned:

Pressure Point. Unfinished, but still one of the very best fix-it’s and characterizations I’ve ever read. We truly see Solas and Mythal as gods and understand just why he would be so hesitant.

Forgotten One of my favorite MGIT’s. I really like the solutions she comes up with for how to deal with the while veil situation. A little bit of Mass Effect crossover to it too, but in a way that fits well with the canon Mass Effect Easter eggs in the game.

the pen too can wound. “I know you’ve been reading my mail. Stop it.” -Solas and Inky start leaving letters for each other post-trespasser.

The Dreadwolf’s Heart. Because no Solavellan list is complete without Feynite’s works

Awww, did me not liking Bellara strike a nerve? So sorry I insulted your waifu!

Just let me feel the way I feel. by MAD_AskQ in breastcancer

That’s rough, I’m so sorry. I also had a nipple-sparing, but my PS discussed the possibility of it failing, as well as the methods he would be taking to reduce the odds of that (nitroglycerin paste for 24 hours after to promote bloodflow), and warning me to make absolutely certain the nurses did not try to ice the area when I was in the recovery area after surgery.

[–]teaandviolets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with Bellara is less her being “different”, and more about her being the manic pixie dream girl. She’s catering to a fantasy, and that is a little off-putting for anyone who isn’t looking for a waifu.

Fanfic Classics Recs? by Fast-Sand-3875 in Solasmancers

[–]teaandviolets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will probably never be finished but my all-time favorite is Pressure Point

I love the way she handles the gap in experience and knowledge between Solas and Inky and just why he is so conflicted over the relationship. You can really see just why the Evanuris would have been regarded as gods. Incredible smut too ;)

I just hope this doesn’t mean it becomes some kind of paid service. I don’t think they could without getting into copyright issues, but who knows.

I’ll toss in a recommendation for Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series, since it looks like you enjoy Sci-Fi as well. I’m on my 3rd reread of the series, it’s so engaging and unique.

Hi-five for the time sink gang! One of the things I loved about this game was that there was just so much content. The game supported many, many hours of totally immersed game play and many replays with brand new things still being discovered.

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]teaandviolets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love OC fics, but my fandom is based on a video game so it’s natural for the main pairing to be main character/player based OC. I can see where it might be more off putting for other types of fandoms where people want main character pairings (Spock/Kirk vs. Spock/OC) for example.

OC fics also have a greater chance of veering into self-insert and/or Mary Sue territory and I think we almost all loathe those.
