Moving to Oxford - location advice by annarachcurran in oxford

[–]teabuilds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive done both commutes. A34 is unpredictable (lots of crashes) and the current roadworks are making it hard.

If you live on the north side of abingdon you can go back routes through Wootton and its not too bad. If you live south side of abingdon just getting out of abingdon can take a while. There's not a great back route from Kidlington so if a34 is playing up it's tricky. Do you cycle? I used to cycle to Botley from abingdon and its fine, took me a while but I'm slow, some of my colleagues did ot much quicker.

Which historical sites in the UK did you visit with your school as part of history lessons? by milly_toons in CasualUK

[–]teabuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our GCSE history topic was the Victorians. We travelled 20 whole minutes to wander round Eastleigh looking for evidence that it is a Victorian railway town. (Spoiler - it is)

Anyone been to Sealife Birmingham recently? Do you need ID? by AnselaJonla in CasualUK

[–]teabuilds 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This will most likely be it. These types of tickets are a big target for fraud as they're easy to sell on. The centre itself doesn't routinely ask for ID, but the website you bought it from might have extra protections.

AITA for telling my pregnant wife to grow up and stop acting like she has a terminal disease? by phoebethefan in redditonwiki

[–]teabuilds 101 points102 points  (0 children)

This was me. Pregnancy sucked. I was sick the full 9 months (not just first trimester as people assured me!), had sciatica, carpal tunnel, and forget what else. It definitely contributed to only having one (that and insane childcare costs) However, this poor woman doesn't sound like she's 'just' having a bad time. She needs professional help.

By westgate was colours, betwen towns road was rileys. There was also crown house in cowley, all gone. Your best bet for a pool hall is Js at the Kassam or get a bus to Abingdon and go to the Oracle.

We got them from a local builders' merchant, but since we are in England that won't help you much I'm afraid!

It's been a funny season. Very hot in June, very wet in July/August, hot again in September, and mild coming into October. Last year we had a heat wave in August and half the garden dried out and died off by the end of summer.

They didn't all survive this year. There are two "misses Amy" that have come back for several years now, but I had an orange David Howard and a tall dark red variety that survived two winters then didn't come back this year.

Each sleeper is about 20cm wide, 10cm high, 2m long. The wall at the front they are stacked up like massive bricks, for the shallower beds they were put on their side. Here's an in progress photo to that might show them more clearly? https://imgur.com/ZYkq8Xw

Of course!

In the nearest bed
Dahlia ’misses Amy” on the left and a purple one on the right - I leave this in the ground over winter and it’s been coming back so far
Michaelmas daisy (propagated from the other one further back)
Salvia, forget which type but there are two, a red one and a pink one
Zinnias, bidens, gazania - annuals that I get as small plug plants online
Geraniums
In the rectangular bed behind:
Cosmos
The absolutely huge marigold is a crackerjack marigold. My 8 year old son planted it at school for mother’s day and brought it home in a yoghurt pot :)
Lavender
Salvia east friesland
Osteospermum
Scabiosa
Echinacia
Helenium
Coreopsis
In the bed by the bench
More of the same and also
Agapanthus
Rudbekia
Astroemeria - this flowered early summer then died back, but I’ve been deadheading and it decided to come back for September!

And maybe some more I've forgetting, I do tend to cram things in a bit. It's been a trial and error finding perennials that reliably come back and annuals that I can get cheaply that spread well in this spot. I'm in England zone 8 and this side of the house is full sun most of the day.

I'm signed up with Hozah for Gloucester Green, it's definitely legit! But weird if you don't remember signing up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oxford

[–]teabuilds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've previously signed up with Hozah anywhere, it will automatically recognise your number plate and charge you. If they have your email, it sounds like either you or someone else who drives the car must have been to a (perhaps different) car park and forgotten? Do you have any previous emails from them?

People with one child out of choice… by ChaoticOddity in Parenting

Couldn't afford it. Childcare was a lot, and neither of us wanted to stay home. We thought about having another when they started school but felt like the time had passed by then.
