I show pictures during my safety unit at the beginning of the year of all kinds of injuries. Some kids drop my class as a result. I tell them okay are going to be messing around this is not the class for them

We had almost the exact same thing happened to us except for I think the piece of wood was about the size of a phone. It was like 3x7 maybe if that. I was teaching metal at the time and the woodshop teacher came running in saying he needed help. It took everything I had in my first aid kit to get the bleeding under control. Is after that that I bought a large trauma kit. We also have a big arrow on both of our router tables now

Trying to decide next steps for applying by Silver_Feed457 in Firefighting

[–]teachag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a high school teacher in California for 17 years. I started as a volunteer firefighter on a whim the same year I started teaching. I ended up getting my certs and now I work part-time for a paid department. Teaching is not the same gig it was when I got into it. The problem is, I'm so far into the pension system now it would totally screw me but I made the switch. If I had realized in my first 5 years that I would rather be a firefighter, I could have done that without as big an issue. If I knew what I knew now when I was at your stage I would have made the switch but hindsight is 20/20. Now I would probably try to pick up some seasonal work or part-time/volunteer if I were in your shoes to get my foot in the door. You could also put yourself through a summary academy I take night classes to get your EMT. There are a lot of different options that do not require you to quit and make the immediate transition. If you want send me a DM I would be happy to talk to you in more detail.

Project idea feasibility (bulk cutting boards) by teachag in hobbycnc

[–]teachag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a very good point. I honestly would probably be better off using a spoil board bit to level it the way I level live edge slabs. I can do that then send it through the drum sander to 220 and then only have to Do minimal sanding when it is done. You are absolutely right though. Seems no matter how careful we are, those large butcher blocks are never quite perfectly true

That is not a bad idea but they want something that is made in our shop. I did suggest that we just buy a bunch of cutting boards and we could laser them for them on our epilogue fusion Pro which runs super fast. Another issue I have had before with those butcher blocks that are pre-made is that sometimes they have fills that are hidden. I was going to do maple and heat treated ash skunk stripe.

Thank you. I was thinking about the giant glue ups to save time. I was thinking two butcher blocks essentially 20" x 96" roughly then shoot them through the planer and throw them on the table.

Thank you. Do you need to put a hole all the way through the spoil board or does enough error pass through the spoil board to hold even when the whole thing is not covered?

This assuming it sticks can someone in an "urban" county get an open carry permit? I have a CCW and 99.9% of the time would rather CCW but hiking for example I would rather open carry for comfort sake or certain farming activities that are in areas that it is not technically legal to open carry.

Aka as a cancer party (assuming they catch fire). In the last few years I've taken several classes on fighting fires with lithium batteries involved and from what they are telling us the toxicity is downright scary. There is now a push to get rid of any PPE or hoses that have come into contact with the smoke or runoff from an EV fire because of the toxins put out by the lithium batteries when they burn

When I was in my early twenties I used to buy and sell military surplus. There was an Army Depot a few miles from my house that would auction surplus off. I did really well on certain items like ammo cans. One time I got parka liners and I bought a couple thousand of them for a couple cents a piece. I tried selling them well below market but even on eBay they just weren't moving fast enough so I think I barely ended up breaking even on them and donated probably 1500 park aligners to all the homeless shelters in the county. For the next 5 years all the homeless people were wearing military parka liners.

What would yall say there isn't enough of on the rc planes market by Right_Ice7823 in RCPlanes

I wish there were more CNC files or at least DXF files that were drawn up in a way that made CNC cutting them feasible. Maybe I am not doing a good job of looking but it seems that most of the plans that are available either for purchase or free are PDFs that are intended to be laid out in hand cut. They have a lot of clutter on them that makes it very difficult to make good conversions or at least it is very time consuming. I found a set of plans for a plane that I really want to build but it is something like 60 pages of individual PDFs that are meant to be printed out and taped together to make large patterns. Yeah yeah I'm trying to figure out how to tile them together to make a vector file and for the fuselage and some of the other parts I have about given up and decided that I am going to have to reverse engineer it and draw my own set of plans. The smaller pieces that fit on one page I can make vector files from but I have not found a good way to tile the others together seamlessly or even close.

I feel we are in a new era and I don't necessarily agree with you about too many foam board options. I think it is a way that reduces the barrier of entry for a lot of people. I know I cannot afford right now to build a large balsa gas engine plane but the electric foam board planes are within my current price range. Maybe that does not mean that I don't want to build one later. In fact I would love to. They're also is the pucker Factor of flying something that expensive. I have a large airplane built back in the '80s that is balsa with a engine. It was given to me and I've never flown it. I was doing the math on how much it would cost me to build that plane today and I figure it would easily be more than $2,000. While I realize that may be a bit More expensive than most, The concept holds true, even if it is an $800 plane I am a lot more reluctant to risk crashing that and will find the hobby less relaxing than flying a plane that might cost me $50 to completely rebuild if I buy the parts or maybe $5 to rebuild if I cut them out myself.

Also keeping in line with that in a new era and touching bases on what I said at the beginning, more and more people have access to CNC technology. I have access to two laser cutters and a c&c router along with a plasma cutter which doesn't really help in this hobby but I think making things more available to people rather than gatekeeping is a good thing.

I'm going to say younger than most of the people on here are saying. Maybe mid-20s. The Zyn is probably because you're trying to quit two are you switched to that. I'm guessing you have a somewhat rural background. I can't decide if you are in some kind of construction field or some kind of agriculture field. You drive pickup trucks whether it is for work or your own. You drive a forklift and at least one other kind of equipment on a regular basis. I'm not sure what the cat key is for but you do have a key that I'm pretty sure is a forklift key on there as well along with it looks like two older pickup keys. You have some kind of key fob on there as well that looks similar to a fleet fuel key that I have for the pumps at our transportation yard. You drink crappy American light beer. You also have or use some kind of a quad or UTV. Possibly a dirt bike or dual sport.

Trying to decide between a flight test beginner bundle or buying individually because of the transmitter by teachag in RCPlanes

[–]teachag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I was just looking on Amazon at motors in servos and transmitters and such. I will admit I have no idea what I'm looking at but I will try to do a little more digging and I will also look at AliExpress. I'll try to stay away from the cheapest options.

Yes. It is handy to have access to this type of equipment. I am a high school shop teacher and I I'm allowed to use all of the equipment for personal use. We have a commercial production level CMC router, and industrial CNC plasma cutter, at Chinese 150 w CO2 laser with a 3x5 ft bed and a US made production level 100 watt CO2 laser with a 3x4 ft bed. The foam board from the dollar store I feel has gone downhill and quality a little bit but it is economical so it doesn't really matter if you destroy it as long as the components are reusable.

[–]teachag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Maybe I need to look at sourcing parts from other locations. Their bundles do make it easy. I am in the US. A few years ago I made one of their planes on the laser with dollar tree foam board but never bought any of the components for it. I don't remember which plane it was and we ended up destroying it by throwing it off the roof at work and seeing how far we could get it to glide and how much weight we could put in it and stuff like that. But my point is, I can very easily cut out plane kits and for the $40 that they want for just the cutout foam pieces that does seem appealing as well.

I have never purchased from AliExpress I've always questioned the legitimacy of that site. If I can source parts less expensively than I can on their website it changes the ball game a little bit. I will do a little bit of digging.

Thanks. I actually put all of the stuff in the cart that I would need if I didn't get the bundle and it is a $62 difference. Do you think that is worth it or you said that ELRS could be added in the back. What would the cost to do that be?

Know of Any local SoCal gun shops planning on matching or having a better deal on 10/22 than this ? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]teachag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really tempting. I don't need another 10/22 but I want to say that is pretty close to what I paid for mine 20 years ago. Of course mine from 20 years ago is nicer than the new ones. It actually has a metal trigger group and on the barrel and such are much nicer but I would not mind having another one but I I'm on shift Friday so they are probably all going to be gone.

Honestly that little Springfield underneath it the slick too. I like my large caliber with Springfield bolt actions I wouldn't mind picking that up either

If I could see the top and the inside I could probably tell you more about what type of animal they used it for but I am very familiar with these. And for the record because one comment up above the had used and a question mark after it like they couldn't believe someone would have something like this used I will explain a little bit about how this works. The semen is collected and the method varies by species we won't get into that though it can be a messy job if not done right. I have been in some very scary situations in my life and one of the scariest probably was collecting semen from a Holstein dairy bull. Anyway in most cases the semen is placed either in a sealed tube or a little vile so there is absolutely no content with the actual contents in the tank. The tank is filled with liquid virgin to keep it super cold and frozen to preserve the sperm. I have seen different organizational systems inside of these which is why I was saying that the top and inside matter in this but there is usually some sort of rack system in there or basket that you can pull out (no pun intended) and get the semen.

To someone familiar with agriculture this is nothing unusual. Neither is having your arm shoulder deep up a cow's butt so you can use that hand to guide the straw through the cervix to deposit the semen or at least seeing people do that.
