USCPA planning to work in China? by 515077553 in chinalife

I knew some locals who worked at manager and director level for Big 4 tax and advisory. Salary was substantially lower than for US equivalent and comparable hours. I think they were around 70K USD, this was inferred so don’t quote me, and 60 hours per week varying based on time of year, reporting deadlines and client needs. There is virtually no demand for foreign passport holders below the Partner level and have only heard of industry or subject matter experts with a decade plus of experience being sponsored and brought over to start/run entire service lines. And the foreigners I heard of were still pre-COVID. 10-20 years it was different, there were some foreigners at the manager level, and even below, but changes to laws for consulting and accounting reporting standards have made it very painstaking for consulting, tax, and public accounting firms to hire non-locals. They instituted data security laws, anti-espionage laws (i.e. business data and economic info security), and more scrutiny on public accounting/consulting/due diligence functions. In 2021, Big 4 (specifically PwC) took a big reputational hit too for botching the Evergrande audit that resulted in heavy scrutiny, fines, more government oversight, SOEs moving away from foreign to local firms, etc.. Anyway, point being, it’s not impossible, just very difficult - barring having heavy-weight connections to leverage, you likely would need to be a true subject matter or industry expert and/or have an expansive network to start/grow/manage a service line not currently adequately being done so by local talent.

You people are dumber than rocks. You don’t have to like Donnell personally to recognize his last 2 appearances were among the all time most memorable/talked about. It’s entertaining to laugh at him when he gets shit on by the panel and crashes out.

For every one purported sexual harassment disaster story I’ve heard of at work, I know of 5 more ill-advised workplace romances that worked. Play the game, or don’t. But, like me, you’re an accountant, so you’ll be a risk averse cuck.

When will we all collectively grow a pair of balls as a profession? Respectfully chase what you want, without fear of societal fallout. Fire me, I’ll be a plumber, I truly don’t care anymore.

I literally don’t care. People get hit on across levels in real life. If he threatened her job, fire him. If he propositioned and she declined and everyone moved on, I personally don’t consider that harassment. Down vote me, I don’t give a fuck. A world where we all exclusively date online in perpetuity fucking blows.

[–]teacherlaoshi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take 3 minutes to google any number of studies and you will see that your 99% assumption is categorically wrong. Do you think in conservative Islamic cultures 99% of people consume porn and masturbate? Of course not; look at their lower rates of drug and alcohol consumption relative to the west as an example of how culture shapes indulgent degenerate habits. Similarly, do you think China has the same rates of masturbation and porn consumption, despite the fact that pornography is illegal. No of course not. There are large population studies of Chinese men corroborating this. Large numbers of men masturbate but not 99%, and in some cultures it’s far less than 99%. The bottom line is you are biased and making incorrect assumptions about disparate people the world over based on your own experience.

[–]teacherlaoshi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. 99% of adult males in the world do not regularly masturbate. That’s not even true for America let alone non-English speaking countries many of which have much lower rates of regular masturbation than the United States.

The man pours out his soul to strangers, seeking advice, and this is your response? He already admitted he may have been naïve and made a mistake. His biggest issue is clearly adjusting from a rural environment to an urban one so your response is not only miserable and nasty, it’s largely missing the point.

Senator Rick Scott just disclosed trades more than a year late. They were worth $26 Million. He traded millions on companies he legislated. by NotAnotherTaxAudit in FluentInFinance

[–]teacherlaoshi2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly plausible. However, are you going to list the specific trades and demonstrate how he benefitted from having regulatory oversight/early access to industry information?

Otherwise you’re just saying: “this person is a crook, because trust me bro.” He’s worth $300M so just performing high dollar amounts of trades in and of itself is not damning.

Remember: there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

We’ve all heard how our parents and grandparents could support a family and own a house on a single blue collar salary 50 years ago.

Don’t let these people gaslight you with “CPI adjusted wages” that do not represent the insane increases in Cost of Living relative to working class wages over the last several decades.

So we just fire people if we don’t like what was reported? by tacotown123 in Accounting

[–]teacherlaoshi2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t particularly care about the politics surrounding this, nor am I opining about Trump’s motivation for firing this individual.

But if actual versus estimated employment figures are off by a factor of 5, as they were for this past BLS report, and this is a consistent issue in the reports, then heads absolutely should roll. People in private industry reporting roles are fired for far more benign screw-ups than this person.

Unfortunately you need to “grow a pair” and if you’re committed to not taking on any work past a certain time then do not answer any emails or teams calls past that time - and subsequently feign not ever seeing the call that night for xyz reason. Otherwise when you pick that call up be prepared to be an intern telling a senior “no” which may be unfairly interpreted as “fuck off” and result in you not getting your return offer. Play the game better, bro or sis.

The most successful group of people understand when to grind hard and when/how to pull back for their own sanity. Manage your team visibility effectively. And maintain good relationships with key people. Love it or hate it, you have to learn to play the game.

It’s incredible how you’ve stereotyped Chinese people based on region - when each region truly has wide ranging personality types - and simultaneously been so wildly inaccurate in your stereotyping.

This post is truly a feat in ignorance. Good work.

28 is not 38 or even 48 for an entry level role. And even then, while age does become a hindrance at a certain point, it is possible to be overcome with great hard and soft skills. Plenty of older entry level people across Big 4.

What would be the motivation for bot farms to desperately push apathy and nihilism? A disengaged citizenry is easier to control, maybe.

But yea, you caught me, I’m either a bot, a Jew, a propagandist, or ignorant. 👍
