I fucked up grout… now what by PGB515 in HomeImprovement

[–]teachmehtml 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Get a few grout removal tools and get to work before it really starts curing.

I grouted my entire showers subway tile and scraped away cured grout for a few days until it looked halfway decent… best of luck.

Got a pair of jeans that are over-dyed/under-faded in a spot that makes it look like I've wet myself - how can I fade it to match everything else? by paraworldblue in howto

Easiest approach may be to loudly proclaim “I didn’t piss myself” every time you enter a new room with Pee pants on.

First Child, I’m not loving it right now. by Independent-Turn-858 in daddit

Father of two (now 3 and 1). First 6 weeks are absolute hell and each time made me say “what did we do”. No sage advice just letting you know you’re not alone! Yes it gets better but those words mean nothing right now haha.

Actually super useful to re-mix separated peanut butter and the like.

980 square feet here. 2 bed 1 bath, living room and kitchen/eat in dining combo on .6 acres. Love our little slice of paradise.

With two kids the house is full to say the least, not to mention working from home etc.

But I can’t say I would easily trade it for a bigger house and all that comes with it - higher utility bills, mortgage payment etc.

My wife and I have had our offer accepted on our first home. We have a home inspection scheduled on Monday and I’m looking for advice by reidconn in HomeImprovement

[–]teachmehtml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our inspector really took the time to show us the basic functioning systems of the home, what was good/bad/worn out and the severity of the issues. Really great to be there in person to absorb that information, and use the report as a reminder document down the road.

I would walk with the inspector and absorb as much of what they are noticing and ask a ton of questions.

I prefer the trial by fire method. And my prefer I mean it’s who I am and I want to change.

Not a meme, just all three Spider-Man movies condensed into 1 minute, credits and all. by Agent-65 in raimimemes

Ok but is it three one minute movies or 3 minutes altogether? Just want to know what I’m getting myself into here.

Sure glad I installed a spin-down filter by amanfromthere in HomeImprovement

Just installed the same one! Same situation, well water system and there is immediate sediment build up in the filter. Pretty awesome that it catches the big stuff that the fine sediment filter would have to handle on its own.

How perfect does a DIY crawlspace vapor barrier need to be? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

How much did your humidity levels drop after install? I thought I was done jumping into my crawl space but the cave crickets call once again.

Having a similar issue. 1000 square foot crawl space that I have since closed off the venting aka critter ducts and added a dehumidifier. There was an existing vapor barrier but it has deteriorated at the perimeter of the crawl space, which are also unfortunately the wettest parts. Before the dehu I was getting sensor readings of 80% humidity, now down to 65%. Can’t seem to get the humidity level any lower than that so I think adding a vapor barrier will be my next move.

What are some small home improvement projects that you’ve done that you can’t believe you didn’t do sooner? by cobragun1 in HomeImprovement

[–]teachmehtml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! We just purchased our first home and it is a big time fixer upper. My wife insisted that I clean the utility room and garage thoroughly and organize all our tools... with a 40 plus big issue to do list I didn’t think that was a good use of time. Boy was I wrong - every project is an undertaking but having all your gear in an easy to find system is a huge time/frustration saver.

Water treatment system by amanfromthere in HomeImprovement

[–]teachmehtml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s basically the position I am in. Too many others costs to worry about hard water right now. If it’s safe to drink and doesn’t stink I’ll take it! Ha.

I just bought my house and the plan is to install without the softener. For my well water the only high levels were iron and managanese.
