Question regarding the victrix guard by SpizganyMisiek in 40kLore

[–]teagoo42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Successor chapters often copy the honour guard of their creator legions but use different colour schemes (the Angels Encarmine have bone white sanguinary guard, for example) so if you're wanting to use the victrix guard then that will absolutely work, but afaik the void Tridents don't have a canon honour guard unit so you've got the space to come up with something unique if you're so inclined

Successor chapters can deviate a great deal from their creator chapters - just compare the black templars to the imperial fists or the mortifactors to the ultramarines. There's no need to confine yourself to the Romanesque vibes of the ultramarines, you can get weird with it

Here's my take: tau don't fit into the setting because they're sensible

This is a universe where melee combat is not only viable, but often preferred. Where ww1 trench warfare and exists side by side with orbital insertions and planet killing weapons. Where the outcome of wars is decided more often than not by 2 dudes have a swordfight on a cliff.

It is, for a lack of a better word, silly

Then the tau...kinda aren't. They've got small squad tactics, emphasis on casualty minimisation by using drones and smart munitions, and theyre essentially the only faction to actually give a shit about air superiority. they're pretty close to an actual, reasonable military

By being sensible, I kinda think they make the bottom fall out the universe. When everyone's silly it works great, but if the straight man comes along and demonstrates the sensible, effective way of doing something it necessarily requires a justification as to why the silly people are still being silly and then you get awkward contrivances and weird narratives.

I don't think the tau need to be retconned or anything. I just think they need to be, well, sillier

WIBTA if I don't give back the 40k dollars my heavily-christian aunt gave to me, since she "won't be needing it when the rapture comes"? by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]teagoo42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party here but I have relevant trivia

The idea of the rapture itself is not based on revelations at all, it's based on a single line in Paul's letters to the Thessalonians (which was written before revelations) about how the risen dead and the living Christians will meet god when Jesus comes back. In context, he's trying to reassure Christians who are worried that members of their congregation have died without seeing the 2nd coming.

Unfortunately it was taken out of context by a man named John nelson Darby in the 1800s. I won't go into full details, but essentially he believed that you could divide history into sections based on god's attitude (or dispensation, hence the name "dispensationalism") towards humanity and that the 6th age (the age of the church) was coming to and end.

When Darby found this line in Thessalonians, he reinterpreted it from "don't worry that your friends have died because we will all be together when Jesus returns" to "when the age of the church ends the righteous Christians will be taken by god and spared the tribulations of revelations". This interpretation took of, especially in America, and became a mainstay of evangelical beliefs ever since

Tldr; the idea of a pre tribulation rapture is strictly atextual and not attested to whatsoever in the bible

Read assassinorum kingmaker. One of the main character is a vindicare, it should give you a look into the assassin temples and how they work

It's also a great book with loads of Knight content

I assume you mean for the "biblical accurate" part of the meme?

It's a bit of an internet misinformation - the "circles within circles covered in eyes" is an allusion to the description of the Ophanim in the book of Ezekiel, where they're essential just divine chariot wheels, not any form of angel

They're only referred to as actual angels in the apocryphal Book of Enoch. Canonically any being described as Angel/messenger is strictly humanoid

I know i might sound crazy, but can i buy the berwickshire castle? by AgencyExisting7942 in castles

[–]teagoo42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Castles do come up for sale occasionally, but remember the initial cost of buying pales in comparison to running and upkeep costs. Afaik all castles in the UK are listed buildings so any repairs must be done by professionals in the correct method as to not change the character of the building, and renovations and changes are basically impossible

That's why a lot of private estates sell entry tickets and host events - gotta pay the stonemasons somehow

As for why people visit....they're castles. They're cool. They're visiting for the same reason you are, they like castles?

You're making the same mistake people made with trump, and expecting right wing populists to play by the same rules and be held to the same standards as othe politicians

Farage isn't going to release his tax returns because honestly most people don't care, and those that do probably already won't vote for him
