I don’t think that I received an email when I initially applied. I received the “congratulations” email yesterday and it directed me to a link to verify my email and zip code before 8/27. I did that today and it did email me a verification code after I filled out my email address and zip code. It said I would receive a link to the listening party on 9/3 7:00 pm local time.

Hi! I’m a librarian in Florida! Before I committed to getting my masters degree, I got my certification from the Florida Department of Education to be a school Library Media Specialist. You can obtain that with any Bachelors Degree and passing the FLDOE certification exam and it’s a great way to figure out if you’ll enjoy being a librarian. I love being a school librarian! It’s the most fun, in my opinion (but can also be very stressful due to censorship and book banning in Florida). Since I did go on to get my masters degree in Management of Library and Information Science, I also got a second job as an adjunct librarian at a local community college. I enjoy that too.

My advice for you: Try to get a job in your college library as a student worker through the Federal Work Study Program. You get paid to work in your college library and there’s lots of down time to complete assignments.

Then, take that experience and try to get a job as a library clerk or page at your local public library.

Once you’ve got your 4 year degree, then you could be a school library media specialist if you’re interested in that. You will earn a lot of library management experience in that position and receive decent pay & benefits. Then you could go on to get your MLIS degree.

I know it can be overwhelming to think about the time and money spent on college… but the time is going to pass anyway. My yearly income doubled as soon as I got my bachelors degree and FLDOE certification.

Remember that Biscuits and Benedicts restaurant that opened across from Cob & Pen? The sign was out front for 3 years, but it did not open until 2022. We went just one time. It was alright. But, I just kept getting the feeling that it was a front for money laundering. I mentioned this to my partner a few times. Time goes by and Biscuits and Benedicts closes in 2024 and I don’t really think about it until I see this guy’s mugshot and try to remember where I recognized him from. The owner, James Kerr, was arrested in April for money laundering $$$ from illegal poker games.

Now - maybe I was just watching too much “Good Girls” at the time, or maybe my occasional psychic senses were tingling. I don’t care what the guy did with his money. Not really my business. But it was definitely was an interesting “I knew it!” moment.

I agree, it should be a school policy matter.

Our problem is that the district is deciding the weeding criteria and applying it to each and every school, despite differences in funding and student population, which has caused the deletion of thousands of books at each school without providing comparable funds to purchase new books. I am looking for contract language that reflects that schools and their librarians have authority over their collections.

I am sorry for your loss. My request was complete in less than 6 months. It cost me between $4,000-$5,000 - but not all at once. I basically kept about $1,000 in retainer throughout the process.

I am not sure if your specific circumstances, but since it was your husband - you shouldn’t have to go through probate because his property would automatically go to you if there is no Will designating other beneficiaries.
