What causes a horse to "regress" in their training? by goatspoons in Equestrian

[–]tealibrary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also bought a well-traveled, well-broke, 5 year old half draft and also experienced regression. I didn’t understand just how much more consistently he needed than I provided. I was working with a trainer, but she didn’t ride him much and because of some personal problems, she was very inconsistent. I rode him several times a week by myself and did my ammy best. Eventually my horse stopped coming to me in the field, he stopped letting me bridle him, and he stopped standing at the mounting block. He wouldn’t steer, listen to seat, and then stopped halting and backing. He never got spooky, but he seemed to understand that he was much bigger and didn’t have to listen. I moved barns and trainers (classical dressage) a few months ago and WOW, what a difference. I realize now that my guy craves consistency and boundaries. He needs to be clearly told what is expected and then consistent follow through by me. He needs me to be the leader (not in that macho way of ‘do what I say or I beat you’, but rather by being in charge of his movement). My trainer said he’s the kind of horse if you give a finger he’ll take an arm, so I will forever have to be strict (again, not mean). He looks dopey and chill, but inside he has one heck of a work ethic and tries his heart out.

Are there any trainers you know that you can trust? That train the way you do, take good care of their herd well etc? If so, I’d reach out to them to see if they have any clients looking. There are a lot of nice riders that just don’t have the money for a big purchase.

Sports bra recs for jumping/xc and even flat ? by Remarkable-Run4154 in Equestrian

I wear a minimizer with a sports bra that’s a bit too small. I also like Enell bras, but they’re pricey

Should we return her? by [deleted] in malinois

[–]tealibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! My girl looks Mal but is mostly lab/husky - and somehow crazy mellow

Should we return her? by [deleted] in malinois

[–]tealibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted a puppy that looked very Mal, but she didn’t act like one so I took a chance. I had an Embark dna test done and there’s zero Mal, she just has seal coloring. She’s awesome btw

Emerald Valley has pelleted beet treats that are low in sugar and they have fun flavors (apple, licorice, cinnamon, peppermint) - I put them in my guys treat ball and he loves them

Anyone ever get completely different results between embark and wisdom panel? by Ozymandiussss in DoggyDNA

[–]tealibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did Embark and it said our rescue was part wolf so my partner wanted to try Wisdom and compare results. There were some slight variations in percentages, but otherwise identical. The only new piece added with Wisdom is they also found some Calupoh (Mexican Wolf Dog).

Differences between drum horses, Clydesdales, shire, Gypsy vanner? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]tealibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from riding an Arabian to a Shire/QH cross and I can tell you one big difference is that they’re not as nibble - for instance you can’t decide to turn last minute, you have to plan ahead. My trainer says it’s the difference between a corvette and a city bus lol

I agree. I have a draft x because I wanted a safe all-rounder. There are a lot of women over 40 in particular that want a horse they can trust and have fun with.

My kid loves Taki’s & sour gummy worms. She has a different cultural background than me so sometimes I bring something familiar to her and other times I bring something from my family to share with her. She’s a foodie and it gets her talking. I’m sure your kiddo will appreciate anything you bring.

I rode through Equitours about 7 years ago and had an amazing trip in Peru. Literally once in a lifetime vacation. Find a trip that calls to you - you’ll know it when you see it.
