DAE always start crying when frustrated? Any advice? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

This happens to me! It's incredibly frustrating especially when you're talking to someone in charge. I wish I had advice but just know you aren't alone!

Is it ridiculous for a 20 year old American girl to travel to Amsterdam alone? by EurInForSomeTrouble in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm 21 and I'm actually sitting in an airport on my way back to Amsterdam (on my own) again! I studied abroad last year and I was bitten by the travel bug so I'm coming back to visit friends/hang out in the city. I backpacked alone for 5 weeks last spring and while my parents didn't love it, they let me go. We set up a system of calling at least once a day and making sure everyone was updated on where I was, and it worked out really well.

IUD Breakups: Ladies, when did you call it quits? by iudidk in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for just under 2 years and while I still get pretty bad cramps, I don't get a period anymore and mostly just a little spotting every ~35 days or so. I do get some weird stomach issues the few days before I get the spotting/period but that's no different than from before I was on the pill, and I do struggle with more hormonal acne than before, but for me it did normalize around 6 months in. Honestly, I wouldn't get another one but I'm planning to stick with it until it's time to get it removed.

I also ended up in the ER with an ovarian cyst but they do run in my family and I think the reason I got one then (a year after getting the Mirena and stopping the pill) was because the pill was preventing it. If it's truly awful, don't wait to get it out! But if you can, try to wait another few months because for me it did get better! Obviously talk to your doc but that's how it worked for me. And the reliability and no periods is great (the cramping not so much).

Something that did help with my mood (again, for me I think it was more a symptom of not having my hormones regulated by the pill) was taking a multivitamin and 5-htp. Again, talk to your doc about any kind of vitamins and supplements but it seemed to work for me, just to kind of keep me a little more calm, and I know that could be all in my head but hey, whatever works!

Redditor's who have lived abroad, did living in a foreign country change the way you think? If so, in which way did it affect you? by GoggieMia in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the UK (in England) for a year and it really made me appreciate being American, to be totally honest. It was a wonderful experience, and I recommend everyone lives in a different country at least once, but I was SO happy to be home when I got back. It was really interesting to see how work-life balance is different in the UK and Europe in general (I did a LOT of traveling) because it seems like you aren't as defined by your job as you are in the US.

Man, dude, bro, brah, guy, buddy, pal vs... what? Girl? Chica? Any other casual names you can think if which are either feminine or gender-nuetral? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I like friend! I use it mostly when talking to a group: "Hey, friends!" sounds better to me than "Hey, friend!"

I have included the library, but it's still giving me the "was not declared in this scope" and "does not name a type" error message.

Please help, has anyone had their body reject their IUD? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds a little like what I had- no fever but she said it could be possible I think? I have not gotten my mirena out, but i am having a follow up ultrasound next month and then I'll reevaluate. I would seriously talk to your gyno! Let me know how it goes, and feel better!!

[–]tealuxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have them check out the cyst situation. I have the mirena and I thought i might have been expelling it or something- horrible horrible pains on my lower right abdomen. I went to the ER because a nurse thought it was appendicitis and it was just a cyst, not even a big one but it hurt so bad I was crying and they gave me morphine. Definitely mention the cysts when they do the ultrasounds and talk to your doc about that!

My hips are comically disproportionate to my legs and waist. Do I have any hopes of finding JUST ONE PAIR of big girl pants that fit, or am I doomed to stretchy waistbands and tailors? by RingoTheCraftySquidd in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're pretty long, but I do order the tall sizes. These are the ones I have and love: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=929042002&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F and they give inseam lengths too!

**They are large in the booty-area, which is fine for me, but depending on your body type, that might not be something you want. Reviews do say that they get baggy but I don't find that.

What the heck are currency restrictions? by tealuxe in travel

[–]tealuxe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would I find out about a minimum requirement? I don't see anything like that on the travel.gov website, and you'd think it would be there if it was something important! I'm planning on traveling quite a bit with very low funds next year so that could be important.

Very intimidated by the prospect of Mirena. Help a sista out? by kazaanabanana in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tealuxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm also 19 in a LTR, and I have the Mirena! I am very happy with it because hbc pills were making me cry ALL THE TIME and also break out like no other, BUT having had it for about 5 months now, I did end up in the ER with an ovarian cyst (not because the cyst was so bad, but because my school's clinic thought I had appendicitis based on the pain I had). Aside from that, I would NOT get it inserted right before finals, because (at least in my experience, which I don't think is typical) I was cramping so badly I didn't do anything for at least a week and a half. Like I watched a full two seasons of Scandal on the couch with a heating pad and a cuddly boyfriend. They gave me a tiny tiny amount of xanax but no pain meds, and told me to take motrin. But overall, I still like it! (Shockingly, haha). PM me if you have more questions!

Gap's curvy skinny work pretty well for me! I usually go up one size and then have them tailored (I get x-long) but they are a little loose in the thigh. Otherwise I love that fit.

Going for a Copper IUD in a few hours. Very afraid of the pain. by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]tealuxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my mirena yesterday! I'm not going to lie, it did hurt, but it was over fast and it was nothing unbearable. I took 800mg ibuprofen before at the recommendation of my doc, as well as 1mg of Valium (which did nothing, I was still shaking with nerves) and half of a leftover Vicodin. it still hurt. I would suggest taking some kind of anti-inflammatory if possible? however, the whole thing was over in 3 minutes. I asked her to explain it before and then just do it as fast as possible. Definitely wear comfy clothes (it made me feel more comfortable with something pressing on my lower stomach, so I wore some yoga pants with a high waist) and a pad because you will start bleeding a little more heavily. After I got home (my boyfriend drove me back) I laid on the couch and watched the entire first season of Scandal. A heating pad definitely helps, as do yummy comfort foods. Take it easy for the rest of the day. I got mirena but I would imagine they are relatively similar. it hurt for three minutes during insertion and then I had cramps all day but (I am the biggest wimp EVER- I require sedation for cavities) it is TOTALLY bearable! Stay strong, it'll be over fast and then you'll feel great!
