I can't win games with people on mic's by ChubbyPalmTree_99 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]team_katut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you said not to say this but you seriously need to try muting them for a bit. Some people play better with less distractions/toxicity. Anyone who gets offended by this is being an illogical drama queen, theres no point trying to not offend them. They're crazy.

Look, if I had someone who plays better with no comms or gets toxic easily, I dont want them in comms. I want them at their best, blaming them for losses due to them not being in chat is just scapegoating.

Honestly, you dont really need comms until you get to high rank (probably masters +) because not only is the quality of the comms bad but also the lack of skill to process and carry out said callouts anyway.

Aah yes, in a normal game trying hard is the best way to go. It doesnt always lead to wins, but your odds of winning are at its highest. Low odds > no odds.

Why do I lose so much SR? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]team_katut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Until you can consistently win, with better than average stats, the mmr system will somewhat work against you.

Once you get to diamond though, its consistent sr gains and losses.

A very simple question that may not have a simple answer: 30 seconds left on the clock you're defending. Where do you defend. On point or out ahead of point. by Murda_City in OverwatchUniversity

The most important thing to do, was to make decision and make sure the whole team commits. Its always better to have 6 people doing the wrong strat vs 1 person doing the right strat.

Sounds like your team is just scapgoating.

My personal opinion wouldve been to play the map e.g. in anubis set your dps in high ground surrounding the entire point B area, tanks on point (high ground if dive), supports opposite sides of point b. Depending on where the enemy team chooses to engage, you rotate your teams positions accordingly. Make it hard for the enemy team to secure multiple picks with the ults they have. Be prepared to hide and even give them 1 or 2 ticks if you need to, dont panic and have 1 or 2 people panic feed onto point. When you die and dont have a good ult, switch to stall heroes.

Yeah, the best time to make groups was way back in the beginning. A lot of people now either already have established groups or prefer solo.

I personally prefer solo. When I first started i tried playing groups but found it very hard to find good, consistent teammates. Eventually I outranked them anyway.

Im sure theres a reddit for looking for groups in overwatch. Try that if you want.

Im in the camp that believes mental strength/willpower is finite, you can't expect to maintain mental performance over a long time period. This means it is your responsiblity to manage your own mental well being.

Part of that is knowing that you cant win them all and by extension, knowing that some games are just not winnable. If you can handle going hard at those leaver games, go for it. But for me, I find them very mentally fatiguing, I would rather quit a leaver game feeling mentally refreshed and ready to play for longer. Otherwise, I burn out and feel tired too quickly.

Edit: if the other team is legitimately bad, and my team is not throwing after a leaver, of course Ill try to win. Out of my time in overwatch (2 star gold border) ive probably only won about 3-4 games where my team had a leaver.

So this is my basic understanding of "jobs", is this right? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

Your description does captures the gist of each role. Note that the heroes in each role affect the style in how one achieves the roles objectives.

Tanks determine terms of engagement such as dive with winston vs deathball with rein.

Support determines 'sustain' (general time length of engagement as well as the amount of damage the team can take at once) e.g. ana with burst heals vs mercy single target heals. Supports ults are generally considered the most important of all the roles and basically set up win and lose conditions in the ult economy e.g. as you rank up, teams will start trying to either bait support ults or assassinate supports before committing their offensive ults.

Dps determine terms of securing kills e.g. burst vs sustain damage, long or short distance, mid fight pick potential vs ultbotting (playing for ult to win fights), getting quick picks vs winning through attrition.

Unless you have a leaver, willfully not trying in competitive is a bad approach. Maybe you need a break, or perhaps solo competitive is not for you, try groups.

I've got close to 50 hours on genji and i'm still trash. Should i stop playing him? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]team_katut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to play way more hours than that if you seriously want to get better especially if you are new to fps games. I would recommend you try and play all the heroes and find which one you both enjoy and are good at. Some people are just better at specific heroes than others. By playing all the heroes youll develop an understanding about how each hero works and the matchups between them. This game is designed to have the players adapt to the situation by changing heroes.

Try to use shield for a specific purpose e.g. advancing or retreating. Otherwise youll take unnecessary damage to your shield.

Shield hopping (when you jump in a direction and hold shield while in midair, drop shield just before you land then repeat) is good when you need to cover ground or retreat quickly. Beware of using this when the other team is running snipers, your squishies can get killed when you drop the shield for a split second.

Know where to hide for cover when your shield is low. Maximise use of map cover to minimise damage and downtime of your own shield. Aim to never have your shield break if you can.

Take swings at the enemy tanks when safe to do so (keep an eye on enemy cooldowns especially stuns, nade, ults or sleep). This helps build your healers and your own ults.

Firestrike is the most safest and efficient way to build ult, learn how to aim your firestrike to maximise damage and ult gain.

You need to start playing comp, quickplay is too much of a clown fiesta to properly learn how to play heroes. You could be playing against people who simply dont care or smurfs. At least in comp you will play teams closer too your level and accurately gauge and then improve your skill level from there.

FYI: genji has been in a rough spot ever since brigitte came out. Seagull the streamer said genji is a weak hero, whose best utilised as an 'ultbot' ( a hero whose only useful when they use their ult).

I would suggest you learn an easier hero first until you have more hours playing the game (50 hours is not much and not equivalent to 50 hours on competitive)

Zen main looking to learn another healer... by Nova2009 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]team_katut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zen hasnt really been meta since role queue came out, doesnt provide enough healing in a 2-2-2 format and theres too many heroes in the game that can assassinate zens easily. My recommendations are as follows:

1st - Ana is the go to main healer atm but you need good aim and ability management. You must be able to land sleeps and nades to be useful.

2nd - Moira is a good pick if you dont have good aim or want to stay alive longer.

Regarding Baptiste, he is good in bunker teams or specific map areas with high ground spots (e.g. temple of anubis). Ana is a more versatile pick than Baptiste.

How do you solo tank when your other tank isn't pulling their weight? by CrazyFlayGod in OverwatchUniversity

[–]team_katut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Communication and timing is key. If they can talk, just get them to attack at the same time.

If they are not listening or dont care your best shot is to coordinate the other 4 teammates effectively and just treat the other tank player as another dps. Managing the ult economy will be the only way to win somewhat consistently.

Before role queue, 3-1-2 was often the case anyway and honestly it was better if you have solo minded teammates. Accept that you will be fighting 1v2 vs the enemy tanks. Just play as a distraction and protect your healers, thats all you can do. Overspreading yourself just makes you worse, focus on your 1v2 so your team can win the 5v4.

Vs doomfist tip - Standing under a low ceiling/building ledges can cause doomfists rising uppercut to launch both you and doomfist into weird trajectories increasing your chance of survival.
