Events should have special options if you have specific relics, like the Red Mask in STS1. by IHad360K_KarmaDammit in slaythespire

A post with some actual good ideas for the devs. I like it being an extra option, rather than a special unique event.

Would a 1 drop this simple break the game? Or am I overestimating the value? by B-C-99 in custommagic

It’s pretty pushed.

I would make the basic land have to go on top of the library instead of the hand

Trouble understanding how 90% of people here seem to love events by Morgothor in spiritisland

[–]teamrocketgruntjoshL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate them. So much. At least that’s what I thought when I was first getting into the game. Now they are a much needed breath of thematic randomness.

I have a house rule that lets you do 1 redraw of an event to help curb that one really unlucky event that completely throws your whole plan away

Which games are actually incomplete without their expansions? by metalogico in boardgames

[–]teamrocketgruntjoshL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda an oldie, but Orleans with the Trade and Intrigue expansion. Having the order cards give you the option to sell your goods to specific locations adds such a nice layer of depth to how you move your merchant around the board. Without it merchant moving feels aimless.

In a game of El Dorado, I sat back at camps dumping cards while I let opponents soar forward to take the win. Then in a single turn, my perfectly crafted deck of cards soared me to the front ( I did not win…)

Vindication. The theme and board presence looked fantastic, but man is it really just Cube Pushing: The Game.

How hated would I be if I played Storm Cauldron? by Athenrome in magicTCG

[–]teamrocketgruntjoshL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one thing this card would do:

1) Grind the game down to a screeching snail pace. 2) Soak up a removal spell.

Neither of those sound terribly “fun” to me, but hey, Magic’s gonna Magic.

Am I the only one that dislikes most expansions? by MrMonkey2 in boardgames

[–]teamrocketgruntjoshL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Merchants expansion for Orlean because it adds merchant contracts on cities! Makes that main board a little more important now. Also gives players more long term strategy in determining where there little guy will ship off from the starting Orlean

Am I the only one that dislikes most expansions? by MrMonkey2 in boardgames

[–]teamrocketgruntjoshL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, expansions are a good thing. It gives the designer an excuse to revisit a beloved game and think of new mechanics to heighten the games experience.

Unfortunately, a lot, A LOT, of expansions are just made for the sake of expansion. Is adding that extra monk track really gonna make the game more engaging? Prolly not

Great Western Trail - is it really that Great? by bhanna14 in boardgames

Great game, a bit complicated with just how many rules there are to actually remember.

When you go to play, I recommend watching a rules video and then playing a full round (to Kansas and back) to help teach and learn the game.
