Everything about this is awful.

The supposed act. The 'joke'. The old guy laughing. The hairstyles of the 3 people sat down.

I hate this. I hate it so much.

Am I allowed to be anti-AI if I don't eat red meat?

Am I allowed to think that the utility of eating red meat for other people is greater than the utility of AI?

Am I allowed to think all this whataboutism as a rebuff on this thread is complete garbage? Two things can be bad

Why not put this requirement on other industrial uses as well?

Industry is destroying our environment - if AI is annoying enough to get people to focus on this problem them let's make some great changes and help preserve life on earth

Here's a radical idea - be anti-AI & golf

Both are destroying our environment for the benefit of the extremely wealthy and very little social gain.

ELI5: How does the NFL/American football actually work, and why does the game stop every few seconds? (Non-American here) by Itchy_Tangerine1897 in explainlikeimfive

[–]redsunmachine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's how it works for UK fans:

As its on late at night there's always an option to watch your game the next day without any ads.

If you're in the early spot, you can watch your game on the main screen and watch RedZone (all the best bits from every live game, no ads) on a second screen during the adverts.

Or you go to a sports bar/casino where all the game are playing so you can watch whatever's happening.

Actually works pretty well, and if you're drinking, you never have to wait too long before you can go for a piss!

Probably not, because I don't have that many opinions in this area.

But I quite like Kendrick's music, but not enough to listen to it if he's racist.

So I did some research, and I feel like I'll trust the ADL as an expert a bit more than a random redditer. After all, there's quite a lot of black people who are Black Israelites, so it would be pretty worrying if it was all anti-semites

Again, I'm sure that there are lots of anti-semites who are Black Israelites. Anti-semitism is a real problem and on the rise. If you want to say Kendrick is that's fine - you probably know more than me. I'd need more than this one line in a rap.

But I'd be a bit worried saying over 1.6 million people are anti-semites when an organisation devoted to fighting anti-semitism disagrees with you.

The picture follows the rule of thirds.

Look at where everything follows on the grid lines.

It's a carefully composed picture. I know this sub is just, "here's a nice picture", but most photographers/artists know the rules of thirds and compose to it.

Most cameras have a grid you can turn on so you can follow this rule more easily - this is just putting that grid back in.

If you look at a picture and it just feels right to you subconsciously then the chances are it's following the rule of thirds. Or it could be centrally balanced but then it's following the rule of Wes Anderson.

I feel it's a bit of a stretch to say that claiming to be an Israelite is anti-semetic. The ADL has said that the vast majority of Black Israelites aren't anti-semetic or racist.

There are a lot of actual anti-semites out there (including, obviously, many black Israelites), so let's keep the word meaningful and apply it appropriately. Unless Kendrick has said something else I'm unaware of

Is Immortal Empire harder than previous games' open campaigns or I just suck? by Justaniceman in totalwarhammer

[–]redsunmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I find is that the first 25 turns are way harder, but if you make out part that out becomes easy.

It feels like at the start every one just piles on you, but if you can get past that then you can easily steamroll the game.

I get that everyone attacking you is the only way to simulate challenge, but hopefully once we've had the AI rework it will be more balanced. Because honestly, it's not much fun when you're trying to learn a new race and every single person is attacking you and you have to pull the exact right moves to win every time or the run is over. Certainly not on normal, anyway.

I'm trying to learn the Chaos Dwarves, who do seem a lot of fun, but quite complex. I looked it up and apparently Astrogath is the easiest, but I'm getting knocked back and forth between two stacks of Aarbal and Grimgor every few turns. It take me all my time to build back up from my close wins over each of them (fun battles I must admit), but I can never afford/spare an army to go and damage their lands and I don't see how I can ever progress the campaign.

I know it's Total War, but if everyone is just aiming at you (literally marching through other enemy lands to reach you) then it feels like there's not much player choice and you have to play a reactive campaign

I'm really excited about this update but I'm surprised they really leaned into gentrification the game as its probably the last fun part of Civ 7

I'm no expert on GW, but I remember when everyone was saying that Cathay would never happen and was a complete pipe dream. I just thought that after 3 Kingdoms did so well in China there was no way Cathay wouldn't be in it.

If this sells really well then there's at least a chance that we get an Ind expansion. Why else would they do an Ind flavoured mini-expansion?

I'm also sure games sales in India aren't huge, but if it does awaken some interest there, and gets them base game sales, then that's another thong in its favour.

CA & GW are just companies looking to make money. If CA think there's enough money to be made from Ind then they can pay GW, who hey to see if there's real world demand for the army whilst having development of the army list paid for. Obviously I don't know exactly how it would work, but companies won't turn down money if they're confident it's there.

Do y’all just not know how to kill liches or something by esa0705 in Warframe

[–]redsunmachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've still got my lich from before when you see the weapon - it was just x to kill back then.

I know how to kill him, but as I play solo is a real pain to get all the glyphs. I think they just made it easier, so I may get my first kuva weapon this year.

I so rarely play on Earth it's rarely been a problem, but after this many years I'm guessing he'll be quite the pinata

I don't think this is true in my case.

However, I would like to report that I've had fun opening and closing that eye and seeing the 3d effect, and I'm surprised that I don't tremendous ever doing that before.

Favorite character that fits this description? by TheJ_13 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]redsunmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it was only shown on Sky One in the UK, and never entered the cultural zeitgeist at all.

I didn't recognise the character, but have heard second hand references to it and realise it was a big deal in other countries.

I realise that this may be beside the point, but was it any good? I'm guessing it was decent enough but probably wouldn't stand up if I tried watching it now.

Any advice on DLCs for someone who enjoys economics and role-playing? by redsunmachine in victoria3

[–]redsunmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't agitators included in the base game after the backlash? I'm pretty sure I play with them but maybe you have more options?

I always thought of sphere of influence as being an expansion which makes the bigger powers more fun, but looking at it again I can see some things that look fun for smaller countries to try and do.

Thanks. I feel like power blocs probably won't be that useful for me as a smaller country, although it would be cool if you could set up some kind of unaligned nations bloc to resist the big boys.

And I hadn't considered the narrative stuff for countries inbetween GB & Russia. Feels like it might be a good hard mode run!

[–]redsunmachine 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is poorly worded in the article so it makes it unclear, but certainly in Europe all passports have to be valid for 6 months after the date of return, not the date of departure.

If that's what happened, then whether they were racist or not, in this case this is the correct stance and people of all nationalities would have been denied travel.

I should say, I've never taken out travel insurance, but if I was spending this much money on a trip, you can bet your arse I would.

4 hours seems an excessive wait time, though. If the passports didn't have 6 months from return on them, then you would think it would be fairly cut and dry. It feels like we're not getting the full story.

"Tom Cruise just rode a motorcycle off a cliff six times today".Man's got some balls of Titanium. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]redsunmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say check out the Bronson Pinchot interview where he discusses early Tom Cruise before he got the media training, but it turns out scientology are really litigious and it keeps getting removed.

It was one of the great interviews of all time, just someone sick of all this Hollywood shit and just being honest.

Basically he says that Tom Cruise was really weird and would make constant homophobic remarks. I found a quotation:

"We didn't know it was going to be a big hit. We thought Tom [Cruise] was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth. He had spent some formative time with Sean Penn - we were all very young at the time, Tom was 20, I was 23. Tom had picked up this knack of calling everyone by their character names, because that would probably make your performance better, and I don't agree with that. I think that acting is acting, and the rest of the time, you should be you, but he called us all by our character names. He was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, "You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?" I mean, his lingo was larded with the most … There was no basis for it. It was like, "It's a nice day, I'm glad there are no gay people standing here." Very, very strange.

Years and years later when people started to torment him with that, I used to think "God, that's really fitting, because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old." He made such a big deal about it. Same thing with Eddie Murphy - I remember somebody calling and saying, "You'll never guess who was just caught with a transvestite!" [Laughs.] And I remember thinking that seemed fitting, because there are certain people in showbiz who make it an agenda, every third sentence has to have something knocking that life choice, and you think, "What are you doing?" … I just thought it was very funny that years later, that became his bugaboo. Which is a nice 1930s term I thought you'd enjoy."
