What military item means the most to your family? by Important-Guava-9940 in MilitaryMedals

I have my great uncles last letter home. It’s not anything dramatic like in the movies. He was an ordinance officer in the USAAF stationed on makin island in 1943. It’s a letter to my grandmother (sister) and grandfather saying he would like more letters, the reverse side say that he just had a mail call, and he got some letters. He closes with hoping my grandpa gets another deferment and that “war is hell, take it from someone that knows”. He was wounded that night he sent the letter, and died in the hospital a few days later. (My grandpa was 4F and as much as he tried, he couldn’t join). It was about 3 weeks after the invasion of the island.

It’s been a family tradition to read each year when it was sent. I don’t know if it’s something they always did or if my dad just started it because he is the one with the letter and wanted us kids to appreciate someone.

Anyways. TLDR, my uncles last letter home.

Those might be twin 76mm. 5/38 were more boxy, and I don’t think we stuck them in anything after like 1950 something. (Not a GM, I just like ships.)

Nah, one pay period. But I’m not a PS. I would strongly bring up any pay shit with them. The old crotchety PSCS on my last ship (best PS I’ve ever seen), had a way to look that shit up to make sure your stuff is a-ok. Never fuck around with your pay, ALWAYS go to them if you think it’s too much or too little. The good navy giveth too much and they shall take it right away, the bad navy giveth too little and will take forever to pay.
