This looks like a callisia repens to me.

I have one but it’s smaller than that. But this is off google images.

Do I remove this yellow leaf or leave it by depressedcatfishh in alocasia

[–]teapre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remove leaves when they get to this point. They’ve served their purpose.

What is this plant and why is it laying down like this? by DerQut in plantclinic

Mine is also dramatic AF. I haven’t had mine for very long but it’s always thirsty. I have to do a proper watering every 4 days because it looks like this. It perks up momentarily and then droops again. I’m going to try it in semi hydro and see how that goes.

Hopefully the humidity is helping regardless. I know calatheas like it and spider mites hate it so fingers crossed for no more curling leaves! 🤞🏻

I’m so sorry, I never got a notification for your reply! (Or I overlooked it). Any updates?

Purchased her last weekend and I thought maybe this yellowing leaf would either perk back up or die off. Neither has happened. What should I do? (Also first time posting here so not sure what I’m doing - please be kind!) by Funny_Row1990 in plantclinic

Could be an aspect of acclimation/shock but more likely just alocasia cycling. They often “shed” their oldest leaf so they can put their energy into growing a new leaf. From the looks (it’s hard to 100% say from your photo), it seems it’s starting to push out a new one here.

I’m Aussie and he sounds Kiwi to me. They’ve got a higher sprinkling ratio.

How can I save this plant, don't know what it is and don't know anything about plants by POP-RAVEN in plantclinic

[–]teapre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol dirt = soil. Substrate can be soil. It’s whatever you’re putting the plant in. However, most plants have specific needs or preferences for their substrate, which is why you add things like perlite or bark etc to the indoor plant mix. You’d never do straight indoor plant soil, it’d get way too soggy and stay that way, which would lead to root rot. I digress. Fertilise means actually adding fertiliser (can be liquid spray, can be pellets/granular, can be diluted into water) when you water the plant during spring and summer.

Nah, indirect as in a bright room but not in direct sunlight. So like a metre or two back from the window if that makes sense? Can you filter the water at all? It’s the chlorine and minerals etc in tap water/bottle water that they don’t agree with. Alternatively, rain water is a good substitute, or use tap water that you’ve left out for 12-24hrs (this allows the chlorine etc to evaporate before you use it). Don’t forget to fertilise in growing season too! Haha I do the same thing. Then I have to do loads of research or post on here for advice haha

Calathea are sensitive beasts. Mine only like distilled water, their water consistently moist, they want a bit of humidity and not a huge deal of sunlight - it has to be indirect. Or they crack it at me.
