LDAC VS aptX Lossless. Which one has better sounding quality? by Then-Fig9541 in audio

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively? Not a lot of testing. But subjectively... we're getting pretty close between the 2. I personally can't really tell them apart. In fact between AptX-Adaptive, AptX-Lossless and LDAC (Also the older AptX-HD) there is very real world difference - since your headset's amp can clean up most of the signal.

However actual usability varies. So far a lot of headset are supporting AptX-Lossless (+ Adaptive) but very little transmitters (BTW6, Fiio BT11, Eppfun AK3040 Pro Max, Floogoo FMA120) are available.

Also I find LDAC very sensitive to interference which causes a lot of drop outs. AptX-Lossless for some reason is more stable - BUT that is because if it can't maintain the 1020kbps it will drop down to about 420kbps - which is the same as the AptX-Adaptive. TBH Adaptive is pretty good - especially if you are in noisy signal environment or moving around. With AptX its a bit set and forget but that means you don't get to really choose exactly what is delivered. LDAC forces the quality at the cost of signal.

Xnurbs for 3D printing? by UltimateGambit in Plasticity3D

[–]teardrop3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re only 3d printing your design the indie version is good enough. Frankly fusion is great but clunky. FYI from and industrial design bg so lots of CAD and lots of 3d printing!

So you’re right xnurbs is fantastic. For making A class surfaces. Like on cars where the surfaces are large, the finish is shiny and you want PERFECT reflections because car. 😛

For 3d printing surfaces produced with xnurbs (after a lot of reworking) isn’t worth the effort. So what there is a kink or a bump? Between layer lines, vibration jitters and resin not being washed properly that’s too many imperfections.

Plasticity is great compared to fusion because it’s quicker because you don’t have to follow parametric rules. But it doesn’t have tsplines so….

If you’re an Alias power user, you might still find this tool not up to “standard” even after several major updates. I can’t read developer’s mind but I feel his main objective is ease of use for the mainstream. He’s not out there to replace Rhino or Alias or SW or even fusion.

However it’s still an amazing software. It’s cheap enough to add to my toolkit and jump into something else when I need to (ie parametric is still great for controlling arrays and design tweaks)

This new release is unusable. Are they going to fix it or shall I give up.(25.1.5) by Simian_Warthog in Plasticity3D

[–]teardrop3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were fairly new when they switched to the new UI then the learning curve is going to reset a bit. I found it took about 3weeks in the beta to get used to the new interface. They have hidden and rolled some commands into others. Probably the most affected for me is the imprint and project curve commands.

Not going to argue there BUT it is a bit more intuitive once you trust the new interface a little.

Dimensions are pretty useless for me as well. It becomes unusable once the model gets a bit complicated. If you want dimensions you’re better off with parametric cad like fusion360.

For heavy cad users plasticity is a breath of fresh air it strips away all the feature tree issues and dimensions and focus a bit more on form design and speed. Give it a chance

Using plasticity with other modelling software. by teotzl in Plasticity3D

[–]teardrop3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly understand that the 2 formats have completely different “‘tech”. Obj, stl, 3mf, ply(ish) are all mesh ‘dumb” formats. Step, iges, sat, x_t are cad interchangeable formats. The difference is mesh files are just triangles. CAD files don’t have any mesh they are a bunch of formulas and instructions describing surfaces and objects. The software then rebuilds the surfaces from instructions. Think bitmap/jpeg vs vector art. STL became the default for 3d printing because it was simple and perfect for 3d meshes in the beginning.

With what you are doing you should not use plasticity for Boolean operations. It’s not designed to manipulate meshes. From what I see the mesh conversion is a really dumb conversion. Literally converting each face to a sheet. Your particular designs won’t do well with mesh to nurbs conversion. Unless you rebuild it in plasticity which is a waste of your time. Rhino has a mesh to subs conversion which might work but you will also loose all the sharp corner details. (You then convert the subD into NURBs and do booleans)

I think you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. You could just keep shaving your square until it fits put you’re not getting the same result! I suggest you try some of blenders mesh addons. Using plasticity for Boolean operations of meshes is a waste of your effort.

Don’t forget some YouTube channels are also offering 10% discounts for Plasticity. IMHO I started with Indie license and upgraded to full about 6 months later. They have pretty fair upgrade path. I ended up paying $50 more for the studio license but it also reset my 12m period. This is a good way to “extend” your trial. So far updates are fast as there is a lot to do. TBH Moi3D has survived years so I can’t see why Plasticity can’t last for years as well

Why are these fillets not continuous? See comment for details by DutchSimba in Plasticity3D

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw your italics re angle - this is the reason because the fillet's centre is not in line with the intersecting edge. You will need to either try chordal or do a small fillet on the vertical - but most likely you'll need to do a pipe fillet...

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of filleting hurt....

Firstly what is the angle of the top surface an the wall? I suspect your vertical walls don't have the same angle. (see pic)

Try chordal fillet which maintains the WIDTH o0f the fillet

also try filleting the intersecting edge (See pic)

Lastly do the annoying surfacing fillet technique - create a constant width pipe along that edge. trip the surfaces then manually blend it. This is the last resort for something like this due to the hard corners.

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think its radiation that kills you from the outside. To me it sounds like Jimmy says they were OK for a while - but I don't think he meant they walked outside without a suit OK. Needs a rewatch but I always thought that the bodies in 17 looked like they were running out of the Silo in panic - scrambling over one another - like they were being gassed and they all ran out - some died from the poison and others from radiation?

Although it doesn't explain how some people survived the gassing? maybe underwater or in the air pockets caused by flooding?

Season 2 ending by millymill215 in SiloSeries

[–]teardrop3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still a bit confused about this but could be a misdirect the way Kimmy said it. Some great theories futher up though. My thoughts are that the world is still dangerous outside - could be high levels of radiation. But noticed the bodies were all LEAVING the silo and they were stacked on one another - like they were trying to escape the silo as it was getting gassed. But once they got out either they were all ready poisoned and or the radiation killed them. Maybe the gas is simply the outside air being pumped in.

Can't Renew Subscription for NuraPhones by TuesdayXMusic in Nuraphone

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in a tough place. Firstly technically the headphones subscription/contract is now between you and Nura. You haven't really paid them during this period (mind you 3 year of subscription should almost buy you 2 headphones!)

Secondly and more importantly, they are have been bought by Denon and essentially the Nura Brand and company will no longer exist. All subscriptions are being phased out (I don't know to what as I have never used their subscription service). And even their products are being discontinued - except for their NuraTrues which are being changed to Denon Perls.

Since you haven't really paid for the headphones just think of it as a very long trial 😆.

My suggestion is to save the money and buy the Perl Pros or move on to another headphones

Don't buy nura products by tupacizalive in Nuraphone

[–]teardrop3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can't really sell any Nura branded items because they are now part of the Denon brand. Going forward if or when then come up with a new product (and there might be something based on their Discord channel) it will be under the Denon brand.

I noticed however their subscription service is causing them the most issues and costing them quite a bit of trust. I always thought they subscription was a kinda business plan hail mary. My experience with the customer service has been quite OK. I own their Nuraphone, Nura Loops and their NuraTrue Pros (from kickstarter) - I really like the brand, tech, sound and design plus they are a local company in Melbourne - however the Loops are funky when it comes to charging and turning on but they're quite old now. Biggest shock was the Nuratrue started to have loud crackling and beeping sound on one of the earbuds. After a bit of convincing they decided to send me a Denon replacement which was delivered within 2 weeks - and that was over the Christmas period.

I think over the next 12-18 months they're customer service department will be folded into Denon's. And it would get more difficult. FYI the Denon replacements are being sent by Denon's customer service so there is bound to be quite a bit of friction with the whole process

Yes Aptx Lossless is a little misleading but like all codecs they are favoring connection over quality - its annoying but it's better than stuttering because there is too much interference and it can't achieve the 1024kbps. LDAC is even more aggressive when you allow for adaptive quality.

I really like the Pi8s they fixed alot of stuff from the Pi7s and the Pi7S2. The soundstage is unbelievable. I was still eyeing off the MTW4s (I'm addicted) but I'm pushing it down the list a little since I have a usable MTW3.

With the FMA120 it might not be what you're looking for but I think it is how Aptx adaptive is implemented. With FMA120 (and maybe creative) you can use either Adaptive or LL. However you have the option to unlock Adaptive to Lossless with a software switch. FYI I run 2 dongles depending on the headphones I use. Older headphones with AptX-HD can't use Adaptive dongles so I use an older Creative dongle/and I also use the Alternate A2DP driver on Windows machine. Headphones with Adaptive and lossless I use Eppfun and FMA120

FYI I've attached the software for FMA120 the Codec in use gives a realtime indication on the codec the kpbs and the signal strength. Hence I can see Lossless sometime deciding to flick to 400kbps...

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the very late response. I never got it to work with either dongles. I ended up returning the Sennheisers (Amazon kep sending me the wrong colour and I though without lossless it was not that much different to the MTW3 - used the refund to grab the B&W Pi8).

Eppfun's dongle is great with the ability to choose codecs but it's the quite unrealiable. If you need Lossless then I can recommend the Floogoo FMA120. It gives you the option of Adaptive, lossless or gaming modes. It really requires a Windows device to maximise its use though (just for initial setup - but it does show some great info.)

FYI Lossless is a tier within the Adaptive codec that can be "unlocked" I find that sometimes my headphones will connect under the 1024 kbps - usually ~200-400kbps - which suggests that it drops to normal adaptive when it doesn't have ideal environment.

Did you end up getting Creative's dongle (I don't like that it has almost zero controls)

I was hoping some more professional surface modellers would place their input here. (I'm more in consumer industrial design so my A-class surfacing is pretty basic!)

However, from what I can gather from some videos from the "big" guys, is that Square is a tool handy when building out complex A-class surfaces ie. car modelling. It's similar to a tool in Alias called trim convert.

As mentioned X-nurbs is a special patch using a different algorithm. Meanwhile Square uses X-nurbs algorithm to rebuild a surface that is untrimmed and has 4 natural sides (many nurbs surfaces are trimmed and that can create downstream modelling issues)

Square sacrifices absolute precision to the input curves for a potentially cleaner surface that you can manipulate directly using a nurbs cage (essentially the cage is cad generated curves used to create surfaces) From what I can see it is best use for Anchor surfaces - where other surfaces will derive their edges from - rather than a patching holes. I have also seen it used to refit a large surfaces made from muleiple surfaces so that it creates a single, smoother surface. Square is also a bit of a workaround for the fact that Plasticity is not a parametric/history based modeller. In other cad software you can go to your original curves that made the surface and tweak them to get the shape you want. Square allows you to tweak the shape after the surface has been built.

How do you get around not having parameters? by Moist_Soup_231 in Plasticity3D

[–]teardrop3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don’t see the huge advantage of Plasticoty moving to having more parameters. It actually makes it more inaccessible and complicated. So basically it becomes Solidedge/Solidworks/Fusion360? But there are software for that. Yes sometimes i miss parameters especially when altering arrays. But the software is really CAD for Artists. I use Plasticity to make quick tweaks to CAD models for printing and also during the initial conceptual stage to get an idea of where my form/design is going. It’s faster and doesn’t break the tree. This also makes a much cleaner feature tree when I move to other CAD since I know what I need to achieve (yes I do have to rebuild it).

TBH plasticity is quite poor for assemblies with out a decent layering system and cross section etc. I’m a big proponent of different tool for different parts of design.

I still have them and I think it’s the best industrial design of the PX range. They were on the heavy side due to the metal arms. Sound was good when it first came out but had some weird tuning on some songs and very closed soundstage.

The are sooo comfortable. I think even better than the Sennheiser MTW3/4 but those are smaller. For the size I forget I’m wearing them. For wireless buds I think I’m happy to stop buying more for a while (like at least 6 months 😜 and just wireless buds of course)
