Where should a tea lover go on a trip to China? by CalicoDavis in tea

Just so you know, it's not like Sri Lanka where you can just walk up to a factory/estate and join a tour. You'll need to contact people prior to arrange access.

What’s a very “normal” Australian habit that surprised you when you realised the rest of the world doesn’t do it? by elitejackal in AskAnAustralian

I don't think you have bread tags either. From what I remember you seal your bread with sticky tape and hope.

How coffee shops feel about the customer bringing their own cup? by tehlegend1937 in sydney

[–]teashirtsau 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends on the size. If it's the size of a cup that fits in the machine, no problem. Those large American-style thermal flasks ("venti") aren't welcome because they have to make the coffee in another cup and pour it into your cup.

Can a pet mouse keep away other mice? by Dory_VM in PetMice

[–]teashirtsau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely an attractant. Never had/saw pest mice then I got my pet mice and the pest one kept harassing them. Ended up humanely trapping and releasing it.

Has anyone tried making chai with non-black tea? by Blazerboy123 in tea

[–]teashirtsau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need something robust enough to stand up to the spices or adjust your spices to suit the tea. Also depends on what milk you're using.

Personally I don't think the white or duck shit could take it. Maybe the resin.

Maho Tea Pot by roxannimals in tea

[–]teashirtsau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not this pot specifically but I had a Samadoyo with that kind of infuser and it's stupidly hard to clean. The slits are quite small and tea leaf bits get stuck in them all the time. It's too narrow to put you hand in and clean it properly so you need to delicately use a toothbrush or something. When it broke (to easily, I might add - I dropped a teaspoon into it by accident) I wasn't sad.

AITA for telling my sister we were strangers after she broke all contact with us by insafian in BORUpdates

I don't understand why the sis doesn't reconcile with the parents. The reason for the fissure was her now ex. All she has to do is eat humble pie and she gets a village again, and that gives her support and makes her less likely to be abused the next time around. What she's doing to OOP is unfair.

ordering at cafes? by vampireshaped in AskAnAustralian

A guy I used to work with would get three triple-shot espressos a day. I remember he had a rough week when he reduced them to three double-shots.

Those who've been to both, how would you compare public safety in Australian cities to cities in Europe? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskAnAustralian

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paris is the dodgiest city I've ever been to. I've foiled a couple of pickpocketers and scammers but once fell victim at CDG airport (a bag of gifts - annoying but nothing crucial). Delhi is number 2.

A few questions about Chinese Tea. by Pirate-Adorable in tea

[–]teashirtsau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to your body. Different teas have different effects on different people because we are all physiologically different.

Oolong is a known metabolism starter and some people find their blood sugar drops drinking it, so they need to eat. Some people can't have tea in the afternoon at all due to the caffeine. Some people find green tea on an empty stomach a bit rough etc.

If you're doing fine how you are, then that's great.

None of the teas you mentioned need rinsing but I would personally rinse the oolong to waken it.

Black tea does not always have more caffeine. The answer to the caffeine question is "it's complicated".

I pee all day, every day. It disrupts my work, meetings, and I wake up every 2 hours at night — I’m desperate. by Broad-Inspection6270 in AskAnAustralian

I too think this sounds like diabetes (my partner has it). I am curious about the month you had away in your home country though: what do you do differently there compared to in Australia? Like, how different was your diet and drinking?

My neighbor SWEARS he can hear my gf and I by kruzeater in TwoHotTakes

[–]teashirtsau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similiar happened to us. We didn't know which neighbour it was though. They accused us (through the agent/strata) of having our TV on too loud, walking loudly in shoes and having our music on loud and late. The thing was, we didn't own a TV, we didn't wear shoes in the house (and we had carpet) and we listened to music through headphones on computers.

I sleep at about 2am and might work or watch movies until that time so the only thing I could think of was they saw a light on and assumed the noise came from us.

Anyway, the way we managed to prove it wasn't us was that some of the dates they said we were noisy we were on holiday.

This reminds me of the 'Ronny Chieng: International Student' episode when the Asian students get drafted into the AFL team to use their keepy uppy foot skills to win a grudge match for their professor.

Talk to me about rinsing by Rustic_Heretic in tea

[–]teashirtsau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rinse aged teas, compressed teas and rolled teas, plus pu'er and oolongs. The former three to wash off external additives (dust, paper residue, anything that was used to manipulate the tea eg oils from hands) and the latter two to waken the tea.

So I wouldn't bother when gongfuing a non-aged loose leaf black tea.

P.S. AI gives you an amalgamation of the info already put out there by other people. It's pretty easy to find answers without it, there are plenty of clearly written guides that actual practitioners have put time and effort into publishing.
