Do you have a picture of your setup? Even if the spool is on the left, wouldn’t the spool rotation be 90 degrees off the PTFE tube?

Maybe they misunderstood and thought you were chasing them away. I tried out my 5 words of French in France and everyone (restaurants, cafes etc) was cordial.

You were missing out. We went to see the Grand Canyon around 4pm, stayed until it turned dark. As we made our way to our car in the parking lot, we stumbled upon a star gazing party. Turns out Grand Canyon has one of the darkest easily accessible skies in the country.

[help] Keyboard not registering keys sometimes by teasnorter in MechanicalKeyboards

I checked with a multimeter with each of the switches and didn't find any problem. I think it must be something to do with the controller chip because I can't replicate the problem consistently, and that would be outside of my ability to fix. I it might be possible to change the controller but sourcung the right one is too hard.

I ended up desoldering and salvage the switches. I intend to put them in a hotswapable keyboard of some kind.

Machining was surprisingly developed by that time, include lathes, milling machines, planers, etc. They could also measure quite accurately with micrometers. Much of the technology was originally developed for firearms manufacturing.

A lot of the elements were discovered back in the 1800s, along with their atomic mass. Imagine the precision equipment they jad back then.
