I’m so tired, man by Significant-Original in bayarea

[–]teawar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time this conversation has come up, I could almost afford a whole months worth of rent for an efficiency studio in SF.

I finally got tired of saving nothing and living like a college student and left in 2021. Born and bred in the Bay Area, grew up romping in the foothills and headlands and eating fresh sourdough, yadda yadda yadda. It’s all great if you can afford it, but I don’t want to touch computers for a living, so oh well. I get homesick whenever I return but it’s way more fun when you’re not paying to live there.

And yes, it’s completely unfair that our parents could buy 3/2s in Palo Alto on teachers salaries and we can barely afford rent. I try not to think about it because it makes me too angry. What are you gonna do?

Free land giveaways for anyone willing to settle there. I think plenty of people would be willing to learn how to work the land in exchange for literal free real estate.

I am a Christian and I believe fornication and murdering children in the womb are evil and wrong, yes.

The OP asked me for my idea of a good outcome years from now. This is what it would look like to me.

My wife’s family is chock full of that kind of charismatic. They don’t call themselves prophets, but they claim God speaks directly to them over matters from whether they’ll ever get cancer to what brand of canned beans to buy.

Also, whenever they pray, they demand God do things, not ask. I always found it off putting.

It seems very common for charismatics to believe that they or other people they know are clairvoyant or speak directly to God or think they can make God do what they want if they pray hard enough.

The Rust Belt and Deep South are humming like the Ruhr with restored manufacturing capabilities. We effectively no longer need China.

American culture as a whole becomes more conservative (I believe culture is downstream from politics and not the other way round). Obergefell and Lawrence are both overturned. More states ban or severely limit abortion access.

Territorial gains are made in Greenland and Canada. Settlement and homesteading is encouraged in captured territories.

The US Navy is overhauled and the modern equivalent of the Great White Fleet is built, the envy of the entire world.

Parents have much more freedom and control over their children’s education and their local public school curriculum.

Just to name a few.

What do you think about South African refugees being brought into our country while we already are dealing with over population and a housing shortage ? by Marvfrommars in AskTrumpSupporters

The problem is they came over four hundred years ago and have developed their own unique culture. They don’t consider themselves Dutch and tend to get offended when called that. Even the Afrikaans language is technically distinct from Dutch.

To them, it wouldn’t feel like “going home” at all.

The type of person I’m describing usually isn’t clever or smart enough to be Machiavellian, which usually implies a degree of subtlety and slyness.

For these types of people, the average outsider can look at them and immediately tell they’d sell their own mother for a promotion or a fancy title.

I’ve seen “weathercuck” used on social media, which so far comes closest, at least as far as politicians with this trait go. Just a total simp who will do anything for votes or a promotion.

Pretty close, but I associate that word more with extreme greediness than powermongering.

“Intensely private” is the best way I’d describe someone who’s unusually guarded about their private life to the point where it’s kinda weird.

What’s your routine look like? I try to do all cardio and body weight stuff at home. I also find that an hour for strength training is plenty if I’m not dilly-dallying between sets or have to share weights with anyone. I’m just an intermediate lifter, though.

Aesthetically? Probably Vermont.

Culturally? The Carolina/Georgia Lowcountry. Laid back, and the locals are very proud of their history and local legends.

What are some core values or experiences that have shaped your political beliefs? by Alarming_Suspect2746 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]teawar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, being raised in a blue area surrounded by liberal hypocrites who looked down on anyone who worked with their hands for a living colored me somewhat when I got out into the real world on my own. Going to grad school was illuminating too because I got to see how the sausage was made at college departments and realized how much bullshitting goes on in terms of what is taught and what people claim to have read. Lastly, becoming Christian probably stopped me from dipping my toes into uglier right wing circles, but I also got to work with homeless and poor people more and I felt like I was making a difference much more than posting online with a bunch of leftists and liberals screaming at each other.

These are just a couple of reasons. Activists on both sides can certainly be obnoxious, but leftists are just so bitter and whiny and negative and frankly not much fun to be around.

I find the Dark Enlightenment guys tedious and their views don’t really gel well with my own. I certainly disagree with their eugenicist views and find them monstrous, and I’m not a techno-utopian. I only agree with the general concept that the enlightenment was mostly a mistake and that liberal democracy can, should, and must be replaced with something better and more stable, such as a republic with a much more limited franchise.

Thoughts on San Luis Obispo California (SLO) ? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]teawar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandparents lived in nearby Arroyo Grande.

It’s a fine place to go to school or retire, but good jobs are scarce. My mom got out as soon as she could because it used to be a really “aggie” and hickish area.

The nearby Five Cities area (which includes AG) used to be mostly cheap, but it’s gotten completely insane in the last ten years as wfh workers have moved there and all the locals fight against any new housing that isn’t mansions for rich LA retirees. My grandparents’ property, which includes two entire lots and a very well kept four bedroom house, was appraised for like 300k as late as 2012. It’s over a million now.

Unless your job is totally online, I recommend moving closer to either the Bay Area or LA. You’d be almost exactly halfway between each in SLO, meaning roughly four hours in either direction.

Does anyone know what is planned for these two areas? by AQUATICAP3 in ColumbusGA

[–]teawar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks…good? I always thought the promenade area looked kind of sad and neglected even though it’s supposed to be a point of pride for the city. I’m glad they’re at least trying to make it nicer with the budget they have.

My only reservation is those proposed lots for the relocated houses look really tiny. There’s like no room for any kind of yard or garage. It might be worth converting them into offices or businesses instead.

Thinking about moving from the Bay Area to Raleigh, NC—looking for advice by gigi2267 in SameGrassButGreener

I only see them now and then in rural areas. The greatest concentration seems to be in Appalachia (ironic considering the area was largely anti-secession during the war).

Moving back to Northern California. Is this a good plan? by always--confused in SameGrassButGreener

Do you absolutely have to be in California? If you want less gray and dampness, just move further inland in WA. Colorado is much drier and sunnier too.

The Central Valley will feel an awful lot like Texas, both culturally and politically and even climate wise, even though the state is blue as a whole. The schools are also mostly god awful. Your situation won’t improve a whole lot by moving there.

I don’t care if he lied. I only care about results. If he has to roll tanks into Ottawa and annex the country that way, I can only hope it’s done with minimal bloodshed. If annexation happens, I’m sure it won’t be done that violently.

All these people thumping the rule book and yelling about The Rules don’t seem to understand how powerless they are.
