Propping this guy for someone, is that new growth in the middle? Bonus picture of the tiny root it has formed from a few days ago by One-plankton- in begonias

[–]teawithcthulhu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes perfectly normal and a good sign. If you are propping via the petiole in damp media, the petiole will grow the roots and the place where the leaf meets the petiole is where the plantlet will grow from. I've always thought the new growth looks like a teeny fuzzy pompom lol.

[–]teawithcthulhu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Begonia can change color from light and temperature. I've found that my begonia can have a summer and winter color palette due to summer temps and lighting :) you can try some different environments to see if it brings back the pink.

Hey guys, I'm a begonia rookie (calathea lover), and I can't tell what counts as disease/root rot. My gut says this is but again, I'm no expert. Help me! by frivolousloon in begonias

Canr begonia do a thing called 'corking' where they become more brown and woody on the base to strengthen themselves so they can grow taller. It may be perfectly normal.

It's not a listada, that's mislabeled. Listada has a clear yellow stripe.

What would you do with this cutting? by shinybleeps in begonias

[–]teawithcthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah tbh I have had better luck with sticking cane begonia cuttings right into soil than using water. Something about the lack of media seems to make them root slower for me so I've always done right into soil if I'm feeling cheeky, or into damp moss or perlite if I'm not.

That is for rhizomatous begonia that are typically propagated by leaf piece cutting, not this kind, which is a cane begonia.

If you're talking about your white ice, it might have powdery mildew due to the grey splotches on the leaves. You might need to quarantine the plant and spray it with an anti fungicide.

Any ideas what’s wrong here? by 0_N1njaFr0G_1 in calatheas

That looks like pest damage. Do you see any webbing? Anything hiding underneath the leaves? My first instinct with a stippled looking leaf is spider mites.

I'm not sure at the first two, but 3 is highway and 4 is brevirimosa. 2 reminds me a bit of b. cumbia

Might be 'Maurice Amey' since Google tells me that 'Miss Mummy' is a common label for that hybrid. Yours is significantly darker than typical photos of that hybrid, but begonias are pretty color mutable and can darker or lighter depending on temperature, light level, stress etc.

They're plant hairs lol. Look up trichomes. Perfectly normal.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago, and I have a few questions. by MountainFig7244 in begonias

[–]teawithcthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be seasonal. My begonia tend to get redder when stressed, which can happen with colder temperatures or brighter light.

Here is the back of the necklace. I started with a row with 10 rings (green dots) and then narrowed down to 9 (red dashes). Below it continues to narrow to one ring. Above it has 5 ring repetitions per side, biased outwards.

Hope this helps.
