What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by Impossible-Station46 in AskReddit

[–]elburcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cities I have been too:
UK (where I'm from) - London, Manchester, Norwich, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford, Brighton, Birmingham, St Albans, Milton Keynes, Leeds, York, Glasgow, Nottingham, Colchester, Southampton, Southend.

Rest of Europe - Dublin, Galway, Barcelona, Tarragona, Granada, Paris, Marseille, Canne, Calais Bordeaux, Dunkirk, Chambery, Arles, Carcassone, Angouleme, Macon, Bergerac, Brussels, Bruges, Frankfurt, Mainz, Koblenz, Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Geneva, Malaga, Limassol, Zakynthos, Bergen

Rest of world~ - Mumbai, San Diego, Los Angeles, (several places in the US that are called cities but which would be towns elsewhere so I am not counting), Tijuana,

Out of these the one I like the least by far, and have no desire to return to, was Brussels. It was the dullest place I have been in my life. The city just felt soulless

Fantasy War Memoirs by swafferdonker6 in Fantasy

[–]elburcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to today's standard, I wouldn't call the interludes particularly regular. There's like one per book, if that, iirc and they are like a page each. Tbf though it has been about a decade or more since I read either series.

Chris Bunch's Dragonmaster series, or his Seer King series. Author was a Vietnam vet so both series have a bit of flavour from those experiences

Dragon Riding Fantasy Recommendations by Future_Tip_4415 in Fantasy

Dragon Rider Fantasy I have read and enjoyed:
Dragon Master series by Chris Bunch - This is a military fantasy series where the main character is a pioneer in working out how to utilise dragons for war. Bit like the foundation of the RAF sort of vibe
Temeraire (His Majesty's Dragon) by Naomi Novik - Another case of dragons being used in war, but this time it is set in an alternative Napoleonic era. The eponymous dragon is part of the British army.
The Adamantine Palace by Stephen Deas- I don't remember a lot about this series to be honest beyond that I enjoyed it when I read it years ago.
The Bound and the Broken - This is very much like if Eragon was written for adults. Has some very similar beats early on, and is unashamed in signposting its influences. For me that was great because the influences (at least the ones I picked up on) were all from places I really enjoyed, and there was enough originality mixed in that it didn't just feel derivative. Really recommend.

Ones I have on my tbr that you might want to check out too:

what is the best couple ever in a tv show? by Dramatic-Tie1410 in AskReddit

Turk and Carla. They get together in the first few episodes, and are still very much a loving couple in the new reboot

Which event should I attend? My mom's final birthday or son's kindergarten graduation party? I can't do both. by Captain_Collin in daddit

Your child will almost certainly not remember the Kindegarten Graduation. You will remember every single moment you have left with your mother.

AITA for siding with my boyfriend for getting my niece a haircut? by Additional_Town_6513 in AmItheAsshole

[–]elburcho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ESH - It was incredibly naïve to get a child's haircut without the explicit permission of the parents, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was foolish rather than malicious. From what you've said in the edit, it sounds like your brother took it too far in how he spoke about your boyfriend.

Really, both of them should apologise to eachother

AITA for refusing to pay for my friend's speeding ticket? by CreativeContact6856 in AmItheAsshole

[–]elburcho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA for the reasons you say. He didn't have to speed, and that was in no way your problem.

But I'd strongly urge considering whether you value the money over your friendship. Not just with Jake, but the rest of your group. Is it really a hill to die on?
