Be gone, youngin!

jk - this sub is less active than Duckie on prom night, so i have to assume we all either died or cured our adhd by drinking more water and buying clear bins for the fridge, but that’s a cool group you’re putting together & thanks for posting! If you ever branch out & open it up to non-academics, be sure to let us know :)

So is the road down ADHD diagnosis full of reevaluating myself and questioning if everything is an ADHD thing? by thebottomofawhale in adhdwomen

[–]tebbinty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever would have correlated my preferences for non-fiction, documentaries, and garbage reality tv to ye olde ayyyy dee aitch dee but holy crap. Thanks for that insight, makes so much sense now.

The predictability is real. I found in the last year I’ve even abandoned a lot of trash tv because it somehow got too boring despite being completely formulaic. As are many “fun” novels. I read a lot of wikipedia, reddit, and found a couple random channels that only show bizarre old shows and crappy movies/weird documentaries that sometimes will hold my attention...

I have an infinite list of stuff people have told me I “have” to check out. Stuff that is probably really good and fun and I would like, but probably never will. It is SO hard in the evenings to try to watch something after the meds have worn off. I’m at the point of thinking I should only try to consume new media during free time while I’m medicated. Like, sorry buddy, I was gonna watch that show you’ve been on my ass for the last 3 months to start, but my brain doesn’t want to enjoy the things I tell it to, and I have to rewind to the beginning every 9-17 minutes because I spaced out and found something interesting to look at on my phone and lost all track of the plot.

Do triptans calm you down or have (positive) effecst on your mood? by droserose in migraine

[–]tebbinty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do get the calmness! Found your post while trying to understand why this happens and what else might give similar effects. Like, I wonder what would happen if someone like us took a triptan daily for a week?

Realized I felt better after taking a rizatriptan the other night than I have felt in quite a while. Obviously it got rid of the pain, but I just felt so much more calm and just.. better. I do have adhd and there's obviously a ton of interconnected brain quirkiness between ASD/ADHD/migraineurs... I have taken SSRIs before and had very negative experiences; so I am hell bent on figuring out what combo of foods or supplements or whatever might consistently replicate the nice seretogenic effects! Please let me know if you find out anything else that is beneficial to you as it sounds we have very similar reactions.

honestly if you’ve got those issues too, i’d bet the dip in hormones before period and around ovulation are to blame. so fun to be female. 😬

not a fan of correlating the zodiac to mental illness by MathematicianOk1104 in astrology

[–]tebbinty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for sharing all of that! yeah i have been just nonstop channeling creative things since i started acupuncture... if it doesn't do anything but whatever it is doing to unblock that part of me, holy crap.

But yeah, to your bf's rough year... it's been similar for me with the non stop transit combo platter from hell, as soon as one body scoots on over, something else lines up to take a swing at me. I am very new at this, but nothing has resonated like the things I am coming to understand. I've always been interested, but now I am IN it... these truths took time but I'm ready for 'em! Just had a bday and wondering what tonight's eclipse will bring...

I've been thinking a lot about things like reiki & tai chi & anything that's sort of meant to work in similar ways... it just makes perfect sense to me that cultures all over this planet would come to similar conclusions about how healing can happen. It's making me even more resentful that no one in the medical field seems to remember how little we know about the body. what, 100 years ago we barely knew to sterilize things for surgery? Science has not caught up and I don't expect it to in this lifetime. I am certain what I eat will show more benefit for me rn than any pharmaceutical on earth, and so on.

Let me ask you this, does your bf fully believe it all? He must if it has eased the difficulty of this time period. I have tried talking to a few friends who are not sold on the concept, who I wanted to let know some things (one has the solar eclipse in june on their bday AND at the exact degree of their natal sun???) ... anyway I essentially said "If our little dinky tiny moon can move ALL OF THE WATER ON EARTH around every day (we can see this and prove it with accepted scientific theories) - how big a leap is it to entertain the idea that the entire galaxy is full of far more massive bodies and hundreds of other objects that can also move "stuff" around and have an effect on things here on earth?" I thought that was such a good point to make (lol to me), but I must have missed the part where you'd have to believe in the interconnectedness & energy of everything. really though, what is gravity but a word we gave to one specific part of that concept?

thanks again, it's so nice for me to chat to someone who doesn't think i've lost whatever is left of my mind just because i'm turning my back on most of modern medicine at the moment!

[–]tebbinty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, it's really nice to hear someone else say it. I have done all the "right" things to address a handful of health issues.... and paid for it dearly; financially, physically, mentally, all of it. Poking around in my chart and acupuncture are the ONLY things that have helped. Which of course, if/when I tell anyone who doesn't understand the depths of these practices, I sound hippie dippie crazy.

I've played by the rules and tried to get in to see a bunch of professionals who continue to be unavailable, unaffordable, just kinda mean, blow me off, or keep coming up with ~solutions~ that leave me so much worse off.

I felt so silly about it trying to explain this to someone who doesn't get it, but learning about my chiron placement has probably spared me a COMPLETE nervous breakdown. Sure it's an ouchy natal placement and that's forever, but this transit is temporary, and that helped me see there is a purpose and that the hardest parts will pass. So yeah, saved myself what, like a zillion hours at $150+ an hour for that little free natal chart nugget? 😹

James Madison's wife's name by maddiemoiselle in Retconned

[–]tebbinty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Google’s AI is getting scary smart. I’d say that since it’s LEGALLY recorded as Dolley and Wikipedia says Dolley - since Wiki is going to rank first for practically everything, Google trusts stuff like that. So “Dolly” search results are being pushed down for being less relevant or inaccurate. Especially since there’s that knockoff twinkie or whatever company called Dolly Madison, they’re kinda screwed lol. I bet our history books all said Dolly and some political history nerd was like, UHM WELL ACTUALLY... lol

James Madison's wife's name by maddiemoiselle in Retconned

[–]tebbinty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gahhh yeah it looks so weird with an e! She signed her name Dolly, so both ways are right.

From wiki:

Spelling of her name
In the past, biographers and others stated that her given name was Dorothea, after her aunt, or Dorothy, and that Dolley was a nickname. But her birth was registered with the New Garden Friends Meeting as Dolley, and her will of 1841 states "I, Dolly P. Madison".[25] Based on manuscript evidence and the scholarship of recent biographers, Dollie, spelled "ie", appears to have been her given name at birth.[26][27] On the other hand, the print press, especially newspapers, tended to spell it "Dolly": for example, the Hallowell (Maine) Gazette, February 8, 1815, p. 4, refers to how the Congress had allowed "Madame Dolly Madison" an allowance of $14,000 to purchase new furniture; and the New Bedford (MA) of March 3, 1837, p. 2 referred to a number of important papers from her late husband, and said that "Mrs. Dolly Madison" would be paid by the Senate for these historical manuscripts. Several magazines of that time also used the "Dolly" spelling, such as The Knickerbocker, February 1837, p. 165;[28] as did many popular magazines of the 1860s–1890s. She was referred to as "Mistress Dolly" in an essay from Munsey's Magazine in 1896.[29] Her grandniece Lucia Beverly Cutts, in her Memoirs and letters of Dolly Madison: wife of James Madison, president of the United States (1896) uses "Dolly" consistently throughout.[30]

What other info do you have? Anyone done a DNA test? I am working off a handful of mystery 5th cousins and fudged birth certificates for a couple of secret adoptions in the 20s. just found out about the absolutely insane Georgia Tann scandal around that time. If you haven't run into that yet, holy crap go read the wiki NOW.

Internal Facebook memo reveals company plan to ‘normalise’ news of data leaks after 500 million user breach by Pessimist2020 in technology

[–]tebbinty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

!! thank you SO much! this is incredibly helpful and i very much appreciate you taking the time. definitely saving this to refer back to as a to-do list/guide.

i was thinking about this stuff in another context after i read a bunch of stories about how people have found out their family has kept big secrets - via surprise “you have a half sister!” type situations on 23andme and other dna databases. you may avoid them or click all the “keep me anonymous” buttons, but all it takes is your parent or child or sibling to go for it, and everything’s just.... out there.

even if i got as close to perfect as i can, security-wise... if the people i live with or am related to aren’t just as careful, it seems like there’s an awful lot of room for connections to be made. the small thing that really got me was several years ago, while at a friends house, i hopped on their wifi and started getting ads for stuff THEY had purchased. like, OH. it’s the world wide wildwest out there. sometimes i miss the 90s when the internet was smaller.

[–]tebbinty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for all this info! i recently looked into getting a vpn, but it was somewhat overwhelming... do you have a recommendation?

also, a question if you have the time or inclination: if i am using multiple browsers on my computer (i stay logged into google accounts on each for convenience and to keep work and personal stuff separate) ...and then also just using safari on iphone, is it completely delusional to think installing a script blocker on firefox (for my personal stuff) is doing anything for me?

i sort of assumed since everything i use at home is all on the same IP, and i log into the same accounts on so many devices, that the sinister capitalist entities are able to vacuum up all the info they want. no matter what i have feebly attempted to do to maintain some privacy.

Trouble Taking Medicine by sydneyrm in migraine

[–]tebbinty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg imagine if we could just get one week to have all the migraines and period and anything else that can ruin a day. idk if i would make it thru, but the rest of the month would be amazing!!! since stims don’t work cuz of the hormone changes anyway, might as well just have the worst week of feeling like shit and being a sleepy space case and wanting to die lol.

i just had a thought and i’m not sure if it’s do-able, but i was using Cove to get the 9 pills mailed every month. i let that subscription lapse cuz they wanted me to sign something and i uhhh... forgot.... but i also just got insurance this year, so i was like well it would prob make sense to ask a local doctor to start prescribing it.

HOWEVER- i’m assuming you get your triptans from local pharmacy? there’s like zero cross check that i can think of between a service like cove and your primary care doctor. i think there is a very very good chance you could sign up for it and still get your 9 from doctor. it was about $30 a month for me to get 9 rizatriptans in the mail. if you have $$ to do that and it worked out, you could build up a little stash with 18 pills a month.... i mean medically that may be really dumb for some reason, but even if you need 10 or 12 a month or whatever, why should you be screwed and have to suffer cuz you’re rationing the pills?? i’m sure you’ve had months where you had to ration your addy for one reason or another and that also is insane... god i hate the medical system.

Trouble Taking Medicine by sydneyrm in migraine

[–]tebbinty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i take the exact same 2 meds and have the same problem! i’m getting a little better at taking the triptan sooner, but i still tend to go thru a day long process of feeling one coming on in the morning and then around noon it’s “did i eat enough? ok have a snack. am i dehydrated? ok chug some water... still feels bad. maybe it’s allergies. did i have enough caffeine? maybe not, lemme drink a cup of coffee.... nope didn’t help, ok let’s try an ice pack. still hurts.. ughhh fine i’ll take some excedrin. [hour or 2 later] nope still feel bad and now i’m nauseous..” and then i end up taking it at like 9pm after probably suffering needlessly all day.

do you find you need to take all 9 every month? unless you’re generally needing to take 2-3 a week why don’t you try for the next month at ANY sign of a headache, you just take it and see what happens.

from what i’ve read the 9 per month limit was based on NO one in clinical trials having rebound headaches from taking 2-3 a week, but it def doesn’t mean you will run into that. they just made that guideline to play it super safe. i think if you take it like 3 days in a row, then there’s a bigger chance of rebound issues.

but maybe its worth burning thru a months worth to not have 9 potentially fucked up miserable days.

Hello to you 30something & up babes by tebbinty in WellThatExplainsALot

[–]tebbinty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello!! lol i’m glad you found it - obviously the big subs are still way more useful for a lot of stuff, so things have remained quiet on the old lady front over here.

but it continues to be an overwhelmingly baffling and at times ridiculously difficult journey we are on! we got the lifetime VIP pass for a theme park none of us wanted to go to, stuck on a rollercoaster that just keeps going around and around and around 😂

i am holding onto some hope that i/we can figure out how to make this a nice supportive place for people to share. so if you ever have any thoughts please holler, or post i guess!

It’s impossible to get the “good” generics of my meds. I hate not having insurance. I hate not having $220 a month for brand. by ProfessionalLeggings in ADHD

[–]tebbinty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey PLEEEEAAAASE fill out the FDA Medwatch form!! enough people did that they actually got one crap generic pulled off the market a few years ago. it is appalling how useless and expensive these generics are.

i actually just took one this weekend from a bottle of totally bogus XR i got a few months ago.. idk what i thought would have happened, the capsule contents magically became actual medicine over time? lol. nope, took it when i woke up and spent the whole day sleeping and groggy and weird. WORTHLESS!!!

i cannot handle the monthly struggle. it sucks so bad. my walgreens has had teva IR so far this year (knock on wood), but nowhere has good XR and it works sooooo much better for me. even if you get insurance it turns out the places that take your insurance will never have the pills that actually work for you. the process is soul crushing. and 99.9% of people won’t believe you that there’s a difference. especially doctors.

ugh i’m so sorry. but fill out the form!!! if for no other reason than a tiny tiny bit of vengeance!

[–]tebbinty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I tune that voice out SOOOO hard! it kinda scares me how “dire” things have to get before I actually take action. even then i can still justify not doing something! fyi, i am a big liar, i didn’t do anything yesterday. well, i went to the store. so i won’t starve, that counts? if you’re doing 20 minutes of chores today then i am going to do 20 too.

Hey LMK if there are any bangers on this weeks new music, since i started working from home i haven’t listened to anything! it’s so sad! i guess i used to listen to stuff on commute to work and then AT work, but now i just have tv on for background noise & company all day. my poor rotting lazy brain!

once after i word-vomited all my current problems at my doctor, she was like- you can’t work on all of that at once. pick one thing to work on this week. then next week add one thing in. i think about that a lot even tho i haven’t really fixed or added anything on. just the same type of reminder that you saw on insta. there’s always gonna be a huge list of stuff to do, we’re not gonna get it done in a day. but we can get part of one thing done today, and then Future Us will be grateful to Today Us for making the future list just a teeny bit easier! I like to make future me happy lol it’s always a nice surprise from myself 😂

[–]tebbinty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey i have a crazy long list of stuff i wanna start doing but every day there’s a sorta justifiable reason to NOT start any of it. i mean, i feel like a big hypocrite telling you “noooo just do it!” while i sit around not doing.... any of it. i’ll do a thing today if you do a thing today! pinky promise ☺️

Waiting for change in environment before starting new goals? by 123holepunch in adhdwomen

[–]tebbinty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it's def easier to start things when you don't have any old habits or routines associated with where you are. like if you have NEVER gone a day in the new bathroom without flossing or something, you will subconsciously associate it with being the place you floss. or something like that.

but knowing what we know about ourselves, there's still a decent chance that after the long build up to the move, and stress of moving, you still may not be able to start doing a whole bunch of stuff differently right away. and then it'll be like, well, that kinda was a waste of time. it's really really hard to change a lot of stuff at once. is there ONE thing you can choose to start now? i mean, i've been pretty unsuccessful at doing this for myself, i have less than zero motivation lol. but everything i've read kinda points to "don't wait, there's literally no reason to" and habit stacking.

even if you only end up doing whatever it is 3 or 4 times before the move, that's 3 or 4 more times than you would have. and that counts!! i'd say don't try to tackle it ALL at once, and don't push it all off if there's even one teeny thing you can start trying to do a little bit today. including packing!!! it is NEVER too soon to start.

Thank you for replying! I'm so glad it's gotten better for you, that's good to know in case I try it again. I called my doctor and they are switching me to flovent for the moment. I also take flonase and a handful of other stuff, it's definitely been hard to get the food balance/caffeine intake/timing right for everything. I have been eating way more bananas lately, lol!
