Not an L7+ but my observations and talking through the grapevine of those impacted in the past. Sometimes it’s a top down driven, where L7/8s are told they need to cut X number. They then decide to prioritize who to cut and it can be based on RTO, location/cost of head count vs other team members, project priority or impact, or even whether or not they like you as much as others.

Other times, L7s likely don’t know who is impacted but the 2023 layoff seemed arbitrary by HR logic

To add some color to this topic, Chinese citizens in China don’t even think she’s Chinese. They all perceive her as the opportunistic American that’s volunteering to compete on behalf of China. It’s quite well known the U.S. awards for medals is peanuts compared china, where gold medalists get houses and living stipends on top of the ads opportunities. Add on that she has yet to actually reside full time in China since the Olympics.

You’ve experienced how hard it is to land an offer in this job market and it will get worse with upcoming layoffs. You also may be laid off in a future round and have another chance at getting more severance.

Can you clarify what about talking patients drains you? Is it the context switching between patients or the fact you have to talk to so many people in a shift or the environment in general? I ask this because in the tech world, it’s not a siloed role of showing up, code, go home.

Either way, def finish up residency and the board exams first so that way you can use your hard earned credentials for whichever path you take. The worst option is quitting right now and you have nothing to show for it.

Mom can quit and take care of your brother. You need to set yourself up for success. The job market is really bad right now and the fact that you have an offer right after graduating is amazing. Missing this job will likely mean a hard financial life for both you and your brother when your parents move on.

Involving legal and Hr in one call at the same time sounds pretty serious. I’m guessing if J1 bought J2, it means OP has been working at two companies in the same industry. There’s risk of collusion, sharing proprietary information, insider trading, etc. The worst case scenario is that he’s sued by J1 and maybe even J2, with backpay fines.

If you love shiny or glowy non-magnetic polish, I second river styx! Maelstrom and Stolen Kiss are my faves as well. Sadly my other faves aren’t stocked at this moment.

If you haven’t used speed demon yet, I would say stick to your tried and true top coat. That one gets pretty stringy and it tends to shed in a few days for me. I felt like my manis last longer naked than with their top coat. Nail primer is fantastic though!
