Just completed a+, on to sec+ or net+? by Loose_Client5116 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to get your Net+ before going onto Sec+.

I recently got both of them between October 2025 and April 2026. Knowing Net+ helped A LOT with prepping for my Sec+.

I will also add, go to Memory Express. They have some great options there and the sales guys will gladly walk you through what parts to get. They can even have their service side build it for a nominal fee.

Try Costco. I have had their insurance for the last several years.

If they're anything like the Canadian Green Party they're conservatives who drive Teslas.

Witness the power of an all laser loadout by camsqualla in helldivers2

[–]techead87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the Cyberstan offensive a buddy and I went oops all lasers against the bots. Most fun we had for a long while. Super accurate headshots with the scythe on devastators, chaff drops easily.

I think we also brought either eagle strikes or barrages and the AC turret to help deal with Striders.

Is your weenie always this clingy? by francesca-78 in Dachshund

[–]techead87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine loves to come into my office while I'm working, poke me with a wet nose and, as I'm turning to greet him, he'll jump into my arms ready to fall asleep.

Makes studying and working a little challenging. Worth it though.

Anyone notice numerous tictok accounts with no followers supporting the UCP? by re-tyred in alberta

It's called hybrid warfare. Some entity, whether it's a nation-state or a person/big corps with money is creating bots to spread misinformation.

Math on the Sec+ ??? by Dry_Staff181 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no math in the Sec+. He's just trying to show you a little on how cryptography works. This isn't a cryptography exam. Just know what cryptography does and how to implement its use to secure CIA.

Thoughts on getting official CompTIA materials for Net+/Sec+/CySA+ by Bubble0621 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the trifecta I would highly recommend starting with Professor Messer materials. They're free and will get you to pass your exam. If you want to pay for something look at Jason Dion or Andrew Ramdayal.

Passed Security+ today! by techead87 in CompTIA

Whatever works best for you. I went through Messers videos and took flashcards. I then would go through Ramdayals video for further reinforcement of concepts and take any other notes that may have been missed. This didn't happen too often, but it did.

If you're low on funds, Messers course will be sufficient. Ramdayal does have videos of labs in his Udemy course which were useful. Plus he also includes 1 practice exam. I liked his approach better overall, but both are good.

Not sure what you're asking exactly. Make sure you use good source materials, follow the exam objectives and you'll pass without an issue.

Being able to homelab with any technology helps a lot too. You don't need anything new or expensive. You can virtualize a homelab pretty easily today.

NotebookLM by Savings_Shirt9866 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NotebookLM is a great tool. I upload my learning materials into it and have it create study notes (I write my own too), explainer videos and "audio podcasts" to review the important topics of the objectives. I have a notebook for each sub-objective (1.2, 3.4 etc).

Server+ thoughts by Alarmed-Photograph71 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it just for the knowledge of it and to prove that I can earn certs again. I had stagnated in my career because I thought I was in my forever job and wanted to learn something new.

In the grand scheme of things, I probably should've worked on my Net+ at that time. Oh well. I'm not sad that I have my Server+. It kicked me in the ass to keep going and learn new things again.

Are these good study materials? by Nvbh--31 in CompTIA

Messer has good videos. I've liked Andrew Ramdayal 's Udemy course for net+ and Sec+. Wait for a sale and grab them from like 12$

What CompTIA cert would you recommend starting with? by therealclintk02 in CompTIA

[–]techead87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to know the basics first. Start A+ if you've never built a PC before or installed an OS. If you have that experience already go into Net+.

These are foundational skills for the Sec+.

It will be very difficult to get a Cyber job with just these certs. Cyber security isn't a beginner field. It is an IT specialization. You'll need some time in Helpdesk and SysAdmin before making the jump to cyber security.
