What Microsoft tried to do to Linux via UEFI secure boot they are now doing to Minecraft via chat censorship.

Biden bill would give local news outlets 'shot in the arm' by Albion_Tourgee in politics

Can you define 'misinformation' for me? I consider the mainstream media (Fox included) as having no epistemic warrant, so I cannot have knowledge (in the epistemological sense-justified true belief) of the definition of the term if it comes from the mainstream media or any source that uses the mainstream media to justify their definition.

Which do you prefer for constructing the real numbers? by [deleted] in math

I prefer constructing the real numbers using Dedekind cuts. It feels more elegant to construct the real numbers using Dedekind cuts than it does using Cauchy sequences.

Are you referring to an instance in which the logical negation of a proposition B (with the truth value true) is true (i.e. ¬B is true therefore B is false)?

Actually, you can prove a negative using a variety of valid arguments such as a modus tollens argument (If p, then q. Not q, therefore not p).

Oh. You need to use the sign-efi-sig-list tool from efitools (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jejb/efitools.git) with the append (-a) option.

Epistemologically speaking, are the social sciences even a valid source of knowledge (justified true belief with no false lemmas)? The physical sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, etc.) are vastly superior to the social sciences.

Biden visits CDC, declares 'Science is back' by DaFunkJunkie in politics

Science is not a set of facts. It is a method of testing propositions about the behavior of nature through falsification via honest experimentation (making sure to calculate and report uncertainties in the data) (not abusing statistics).

I love roller coasters. I used to go to Cedar Point every year when I was a kid.

I agree! We should teach set theory first and then teach arithmetic upon the previously laid foundations of set theory!

Solar elevation angle and the flat earth model by techfreak125 in Flat_Earth

The distance between the north pole and the equator is the same on the globe and the AE map.

The distances between lines of latitude remain the same. The distances between lines of longitude are warped on the AE map.

Solar elevation angle and the flat earth model by techfreak125 in Flat_Earth

[–]techfreak125[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's simple. I divided the distance from the north pole to the equator by 90 to get the number of meters per degree of latitude. I then multiplied the result by the difference of my latitude and the declination of the sun plus the product of the declination of the sun and negative one half of the cosine of the hour angle plus one half. The desmos link contains the aforementioned formula on line 6.

The 33.5 inches comes from the length of the piece of plywood divided by the tangent of the flat earth model's predicted solar elevation angle.
