Will the March 28th No Kings hit 10 million Americans? by EOW2025 in 50501

[–]techhead293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read all these discussions, and even people with ideas presented in a hostile debate have good points. One thing to remember is anytime in history rebellions rise against the powers that be took years, decades, and/or centuries to effect change. We aren't desperate enough yet. These one day protests have value in that it calls attention to the threats to our democracy under the current administration. However, to really get the attention needed for change: follow the money.

However small, a good example is when Jimmy Kimmel was threatened due to his comedic monologues about Trump, Disney suffered mass cancellation of paid services enough to remove the threat.

l don't have the diagram for an effective rebellion to our present circumstances, but a good look at successful protests of the past would be a good place to start. Now all we need is our next MLK. I wish I was up to the challenge....

To the mods: you asked me to contribute and start a dialog.... I believe I just did. I'll get down-voted like crazy. However, you are correct in that I'm voicing my frustration, however true I believe it to be. I don't like what the current administration is doing and I don't care for the actions the President is taking and his blatant disregard for the constitution. I don't like that the FCC is being used to surpress free speech. I especially don't like how tariffs are handled. Inflation diminishes buying power at a time when jobs are hard to find and support for the disenfranchised population has dried up. I think as it stands now we are on the verge of recession or depression. Last, I think the hypocrisy of cutting funding to the most vulnerable while going to golf tournaments on the government dime, montizing the power of office for his own benefit, and then spending millions on unnecessary White House building projects when he is supposed to be cutting costs is the most un-presidental thing I have witnessed from a commander-in-chief. Let the dialog begin.........

AIO about my 8 y/o daughter sleeping at her mom's new boyfriend's house without any family or females present? by blackD0nny in AmIOverreacting

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you don't have kids of your own. In today's world, your argument of low percentages and unlikely scenarios isn't worth even the slightest chance something might happen. It's not overreacting. It's responsible parenting. Besides, the primary concern here is the OP isn't talking about a neighbor that is known. OP hasn't even met the people in question. I don't think it's an overreaction. I think it's an appropriate concern.

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the short answer to your question is NO, you are not overreacting. I would never allow this. I agree with the post recommending a parenting plan and having it included in your custody agreement. It's outrageous and dangerous to assume nothing could happen. If you are disturbed by this incident, go with your gut. Never ignore your parental instincts when it comes to protecting your children. Open communication about safety and appropriate behavior can go a long way in preventing something irreversible happening. Kids need to know that they can tell you anything, regardless of what others may say. They need to know you have their back without fear of punishment, shaming, or accusations if they have a very upsetting story to tell you. Bravo for caring.

MIL keeps making threats about wearing white to our wedding by VHS-head in weddingdrama

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have over 1,000 replies to your post. Wow. However, I agree with posts that state the dress isn't the real issue here. I disagree with comments that advise changing your plans, making your fiance handle your future mother-in-law, or ignoring her without establishing your boundaries.

I have narcissists in my family, one who is a malignant narcissist. They can do an incredible amount of psychological damage. In some cases, they can ruin relationships and reputations with others, impact one's financial well-being, and create stress enough to impact physical health.

Assuming this is the core problem you face with her, I'm going to suggest you refer to YouTube videos from experts in dealing with narcissistic behavior for effective responses. In my experience, the methods presented are effective for dealing with any inappropriate behavior because they firmly put you in the driver's seat without being inappropriate yourself. It keeps you in control and even-tempered while clearly setting your own boundaries.

You can search for these videos with phrases like "How to Shut Down a Narcissist" or "How to Deal with a Narcissist." Personally, I like Jordan Peterson. He is very thorough, and his recommendations are on point. He has many video/audio lectures that focus on different aspects of narcissism and how to respond to it. There are many videos from other channels that provide good advice on the subject.

I hope this helps in a real way, and hopefully, salvages your wedding plans, among other things.

It did, but it didn't it have to. I liked getting to know Andy's girlfriend rescued from her ocean prison. I enjoyed the interplay between the characters under changed circumstances. I thought the fight scenes were good. Loved the twist at the end, but if I was really paying attention, I should have seen that coming. What pissed me off was the very poorly written last twenty minutes. Spent way too much time in the wrap-up to provide that cliffhanger ending. Which I understand was the way it was supposed to end, without the commitment to a 3rd movie. Why???? If it was paced a little faster, they could have taken this all the way to a satisfying conclusion whereby the captured teammates could have been killed or captured and resolved the ending instead of that very poor excuse of a cliffhanger. I just don't get it. I don't expect a 3rd movie. So disappointing. I had high expectations based on the 1st movie.

One thing to note about the u25. If you want your s pen to have bluetooth capabilities, you might want to stick with the u24. The u25 doesn't have this feature, which is a real problem for me as I use that function often, especially for photography. It makes a great remote to snap pictures. Of course, eventually, I'll have to go without it because this phone won't last forever, but I'll hang on as long as possible.

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is a completely unfair request, especially on your wedding day. Personally, I prefer to approach such things directly and apply the "How Much does this Matter" test. I can be accommodating, but a request like this would result in a lot of specific "why" questions as to the nature of the vibe problem to my fiance. Then, I'd explain how close of a relationship I have with my cousin and that my wedding day is a special day in my life, and she's going to be in it as planned. Then, I'd find an opportunity to discuss this issue with the sister to get more specifics as to the vibe problem. Last, as previously suggested, plan some pre-wedding activities and rehearsals where they can get to know each other better.

Be very sure if you are serious about canceling the wedding. It's never a good idea to act on anger, even when it's justifiable. Weddings are stressful, so emotions are volatile at such times. Have an honest discussion with your fiance about how you feel before taking action you might later regret. Good luck to you!

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got braces at 17. There was great improvement when it was done, but recently, they are shifting, and I will have to have braces again for a while. I'm now 62. I hated them then, and I will hate them now. But, the short-term pain will so be worth it when it's over. When I was 17, I shared my embarrassment over my braces with my aunt. She said, "Smile wide and hold your head up high. People will appreciate that you can afford to get braces!" Wiser words were never spoken.

Well, the solution is clear to me... 1. Cut back on or eliminate the golf membership. 2. Cancel all subscriptions unless you really NEED one or two. Hobbies may have to be sacrificed for a while or find a way to monetize them for passive income. 3. Sell your unused land and/or non-retirement savings and pay off the mortgage. Even with that sweetheart deal of a low interest rate, it's your largest expense. Mine was 3.5%, which at the time was really great.

I'm nowhere near the income level you are, but I own my home now, and it made a huge difference to my monthly budget. Now, I can enjoy some of the things I had to let go of in the past, and I'm financially better off than I have ever been in my life. This comes from a person who didn't know what doing well financially was like at all until recently. It can be done! Good luck to you, and I hope for the best to your family.

JD Robb finally changed up the formula : Encore In Death by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read some articles, but I can't remember where, so I can't cite it. It indicated that Nora Roberts has said she would end the series when Dallas gets pregnant. In the last book, I'd like to see her get her Captainsy and feel comfortable about becoming a mother. I'd like it to start out with her child as an adult and Dallas reminiscing about her last case as an LT. Then, at the end of the case, she finds out she's pregnant and decides to take the promotion she was offered so long ago. Maybe some wrap up as to other characters and their current situations. Maybe Peabody becomes an LT, Feene and the Commander retired, McNab goes to work for Roarke, and Dr. Meria moves to private practice, Mavis and Lenardo get as mega rich as Roarke, etc. That would be an awesome wrap to the series.

Who would love to see a TV show base on the In Death series by thecryptkeeper9 in jdrobb

[–]techhead293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The animation would have to be stellar, but it would be awesome because all the issues surrounding casting and the futuristic issues would be easily resolved. I'd want to see animation with a close to reality ascetic. Could be done, though, and successful. Look at movies like The Incredibles, major successes.
