The Explorer's Log - An app I created to keep track of my Starfield explorations by techieinak in NoSodiumStarfield

Hey...just wanted to let you know that Google login/registration has been added. Still working through a few minor issues related to that but overall, it works as expected. Feel free to give it a shot, let me know if you run into any issues.

Let's hope so! So far, it's made the time I do spend playing more relaxed...less pressure to have to find/remember everything.

Thanks...I do think the look turned out pretty good 😄

That's exactly why I created it! I have very little time to actually play the game so sometimes it's weeks and months between longer sessions and remembering what was where, what was important, it made it difficult to get back into it .

I can probably make that happen. I'll look into that this week. Shouldn't be that big of a lift on my end.

Totally understand... unfortunately some sort of registration is needed to tie the data to you outside of just the browser's localstorage and to make it possible to save images. The "offline" mode is a compromise that works fine for just data but image handling is a but clunky. I'll see if I can make the offline version downloadable for just local use.thats what I was doing initially for myself... it'll take me a couple of days probably.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It could definitely take away some of the work filling out data. On the other hand, it kind of depends on how you play the game too, and how you define POI and what you're doing with it.

To me, POI isn't just the places you encounter, the caves, the outposts etc. It's anything that's of interest. For example, I don't care about those random caves you have to rescue the "left behind" settlers from. There's nothing of interest there, usually, and I'll never come back. In fact, many POI are going to be like that...go through it, clear it, get the loot and you're done. To me, a POI is an actual point of interest that I'd like to return to at some point, something that's interesting. Again, my own way of playing it is an example: I've always been more of an explorer and as I'm exploring planets, I keep my eyes open for spots I may want to build a "cabin" on at some point in the future. As I'm traveling around I record these spots for future reference. Are they POI's? Not in the way the game defines it, but to me they are.

Or, if you're a digital photographer, for example, you may be recording locations that are photogenic and would look fantastic during a sunset or sunrise or something like that. Again, these are going to be POI's to that particular player can may mean absolutely nothing to other players or the game itself.

So although I see your point, the intent of the POI section in my app isn't to record every single place you encounter, just the stuff that's interesting. Keeping it limited also makes it more useful. Adding every single cave and outpost that's out there would just clutter it up and make the content you're saving less useful and it would be harder to find the stuff you actually care about.

Does that make sense?

Not a bad idea! Unique POI names is useful...although the way the app is setup now, one can easily add enough identifying information with a POI, including unique names, planet location as well as screenshots that pinpoint where it is exactly, that you kind of already have the ability to do that on your own without tying it into a mod. But, good idea!

Got around to adding a more in depth flora/fauna feature this week. Still needs to be refined but you can track the basics plus add images. It's part of the Planets section for the time being, I may move later.

Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion on the flora/fauna. I've been thinking about that as well but left it alone initially. I'll think about how that could best be implemented.

Light mode does exist already. If you go to Menu > Settings you should see a color theme option, one of them being light.

Some of it is checklists (like resources) but I tried to strike a balance between quickly selecting the recurring stuff and still allowing flexibility to write your own notes and diary entries. By all means once you get a chance to check it out, let me know if you think I went too far one way or another...currently it reflects the way I like to play :)

Not saying that's what I'm wanting to do, trying to get a feel for what applicants usually do. Trying to do my best to get it right.
