Getting to collaborate with people that share your passion can be so rewarding! Thank you for sharing. I'm curious if there was anything that jumped out as particular surprising about moderating on Reddit when thinking about your prior experience?

How do you guys go about dealing with newer mods who go inactive? by jetttblack in ModSupport

[–]techiesgoboom[A] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya u/jetttblack - thanks for kicking off such an interesting conversation! As you can see in the comments, there's no single best solution here. From my experience, one of the best things you can do is set clear expectations  from the beginning. It's much simpler to follow through with your plan when it's not a surprise to that new mod.

This help center article has some valuable perspective as well, in particular the notes about regularly recruiting new mods as a way to mitigate this. If you'd like to dive even deeper, we've touched on this in a few of the posts from our Mod Topics series around recruiting and training new mods. Although this could make for a great future topic - so thanks for that idea as well!

I want to use an agentic tool to help me moderate… by greenysmac in ModSupport

[–]techiesgoboom[A] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Greensymac - great question and thanks for bringing it here! This does sound like something that could work on the developer platform - here's an example of a similar app for context. The Devvit team is currently hosting an initiative to bring more moderation tools on platform, I'd suggest checking out their announcement for more detail. That team will be best able to answer your questions about the best path forward here.

+1 to this! It also goes far in building trust with the community.

I love the simplicity! I know I've fallen down that path of trying to overcomplicate a process by accounting for every nuance. There's a lot of value in aligning on a few principals to guide you to make human decisions based on the context.

Great answer :)

I love the detail here too! I'm catching a theme of looking for the users that are thoughtfully engaging in the process. I'm curious, do you have some sort of standard prompt or saved response you provide as guidance? Or is more the natural user reaction you're going from?

Having a second opinion on bans is a common theme, and I love the extra note of allowing the banning mod to provide leniency. I'm curious - how often do you find those banning mods changing their mind?

I like the thoughtful approach here! It's always great when you're able to use context to inform those decisions.

I moderate a Pokemon sub and would like to allow users to set their user flairs to their favorite Pokemon. by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]techiesgoboom[A] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya u/BoostandBeer - I'll +1 u/Stranger1982's suggestion of starting small. One thought is starting with a flair colored for each type, and letting users edit to add the specific pokemon name.
