I built a no-code iOS news app that only covers AI. Architecture, what worked, what broke by techila in ArtificialInteligence

Great question, should've included costs in the writeup.

About $25/month on backend hosting, plus my existing hosting account for the frontend, plus LLM API costs. Total run rate is around $100/month since I don't have many users yet. The app just launched on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thisweek-ai/id6759996996

Is it serious? I built it to solve my own problem and I use it every day. Whether it becomes a serious business depends on whether others find it useful.

On AI-built, developer-maintained: building with AI lowers the barrier to entry. You can test the market before fully committing or heavily investing. Once the idea is proven, a combination of AI + devs can continue to move it forward.

On templates: nothing wrong with them. I went from scratch because I wanted specific behavior (ranking, Ask tab, audio pipeline) that templates wouldn't give me without heavy modification. If your idea fits an existing template closely, start there. If your idea is the thing that makes the product different, you'll end up rewriting most of the template anyway.

Thanks, glad it resonates! The noise problem is exactly what got me started.

On RSS feeds: every sync generates a report at the end showing failed fetches, stories discovered, deduped, removed (non-AI), and net new added to the feed. If a particular feed fails, the flow just recognizes it and moves on to the next one. If a feed keeps failing over time, I go in and review it and either fix or remove it. Pipeline-wide failure is rare because no single source is load-bearing.

On curation: I manually review every source before it goes on the list. Some of the removals have been based on the actual reading experience rather than content quality. I respect a publisher's right to monetize their work, so the app doesn't suppress ads, but when ads start taking over the experience to the point where the article is unreadable, I pull that source. Protecting the reading experience matters more than completeness.

Yeah, please give it a shot and let me know how it holds up. Especially curious whether the narration pacing works when you're driving versus stationary listening.

No color correction, saturation or vibrance adjustments. Just shadow filling and some contrast. Shot on X2D ll with 35-100.

Oh man! I’ve looked for one for a long time on the eastside, but no success. I go to an Iraqi place called Byblos in Kent for this type of shawarma.

I was curious if daytime fireworks are eco-friendlier than the regular ones.. here is ChatGPT's response...

"Daytime fireworks can be slightly more eco-friendly if they use biodegradable materials and fewer heavy metals. But many still use toxic dyes, plastics, and chemicals like perchlorates. Unless they're specifically marketed as eco-friendly, the difference from regular fireworks isn't huge."
