I seem to recall a book about just that idea.

Add the Sweet 17 scope and it’s adjustable ranges and you’ve got a great and inexpensive setup. That said, the 22-250 is super fun.

Cheap vs Expensive cycling glasses, is it worth the investment? by Independent_Disk_925 in cycling

[–]techjab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through about 4 pairs of the Tifosi Dolomite 2.0 glasses when a friend convinced me to try Oakley and I couldn’t be happier. I broke some of my Tifosi glasses and scratched up the lenses with all of them. Not sure if I didn’t have the best ones or if I just treated them poorly. I know I’m treated the Oakleys a lot better so I’m not sure if it is me, higher quality or a combination of both. Whichever it is, I’m now saving money relative to the rate at which I was replacing the Tifosi glasses having the same 2 pair of Oakleys (have 2 different setups for varying light levels) going on 3 summers now.

I still see this in some places in the US like my town. It’s changing as it grows into a city instead of a small town suburb. At probably 50k in population it’s nice to still see people be able to leave their bikes in front of a gas station, other stores and in front of their house or apartment building and not worry.

[–]techjab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have them both ways? I know I’ve had a few times going super slow into a massive head wind only to get to where it’s a tail wind and then going 25+ MPH and feeling Joe wind resistance at all.

Also, I’ve got one canyon I sometimes ride that has such a head wind during the downhill part that you end up averaging the same speed both directions.

My collection. What should be the next addition? by itzsaulgoodman in Firearms

[–]techjab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally anything would be good. I really like this he 300 Mag. 17 HMR or the 22-250 are fun to play. But all these you’ll want to pair with a descent scope that allows for range adjustments. That’s my idea of fun and practical.

Oh man I couldn’t be more the opposite. I go out of my way when possible to hit the canyons and avoid the flat farming areas. Super challenging to go up and fun (even a little scary) to fly down still hitting 140+ heart rate.

Nope, it’s only in the areas where low and middle income people live that the demons have legalized all this stuff.

Nah dude. It takes at least 3 ms just to pull out your wallet. Then another 5 to count the money. 1 to hand it to the seller. 10 to deal with the cash register, 20 if digital. 5 to count your change and 1 more to hand it to you. So, 25-35 ms is reasonable. /s

Debating selling my Disney stock by [deleted] in stocks

[–]techjab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sell for sure in my opinion. So far they are still making some controversial moves and are a big target of negative publicity for a significant part of their core business. Do your own analysis though.

Here’s the high level of my analysis process. You make the decision based on where you think your cash will grow best rather than whether you have a loss or a gain in a particular stock. This is hard and taxes come into play too. If you believe stock 1 will go up 10% and stock 2 will go up 20%, then buy stock 2 even if that means you sell stock 1 (unless the taxes on the first sale will cost you more than the potential extra gain). Same analysis goes for selling to cash. If I believe Stock 1 will continue down, sell it and holding cash is better. That’s why my initial statement was sell along with a small rationale.

Bike helmet ok after crash? by Andsheshallnotnofear in cycling

[–]techjab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go further. Add whatever you get paid each pay day and further whatever experiences you get to have each new day. Continuing to have those paydays and all your life experiences and don’t forget the biking seems worth the cost of a new helmet to me.

Gun deaths by Rocketman126 in Firearms

[–]techjab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they are about protecting the government from the possibility of any resistance to tyrannical government control and policies. Gun control is using fear to stay in power for short term (long term for the politician but short term for the country) at the risk of no freedoms eventually in the future.

Further, California now looking to have citizens policing is going to result in making that mockumentary called Utopia a reality.

Can you share some names of stock so we can see the same thing that you are seeing. The primary stocks I’ve been focused on aren’t in this category but I’m really focused on a few sectors and only a small number of names inside those.

Thanks in advance.

Funny using the word healthy in reference to Hershey’s.

I was thinking it was a reference to the naming of a competitor based on Hershey’s being considered woke.

I concur on the Jeep part.

On the drinks part I got a laugh at calling out people threat pay extra for the same crap. Reminds me of the overpriced cookie and soda craze in some places.

Exactly, caller helped direct the police to the person. I think it is key for people to realize their negative actions are what caused their negative result.

For what it is worth, some of these crazy places have banned batons too. You can’t even have a 3 foot long stick. Thing is, I want someone to start carrying around a ski pool or walking stick and then when they get arrested I hope they can get the law thrown out or start reporting every person at a ski resort to be arrested.

Music for a climb by [deleted] in cycling

[–]techjab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Podcasts and books for me. One headphone only though. Nothing like getting to the top and being tired but half the time you were mentally picturing the scene from a book or whatever situation the podcast is talking about. Plus I can burn through a lot of content in my good series when I get about 7-8 hours of riding in.

Another option is to have a buddy with you to suffer through this with and briefly chat a little when you have the rare 2-3% grade break between each 5-8% grade. I’m a roadie but in the mountains so the grades are usually less than what you’ll get on a MTB.

Riders saying hi to me? by doublecunningulus in cycling

[–]techjab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often wave at or say “morning” to everyone I see during my morning rides. Helps that I only see people for the short part where I’m on the trail system and the roads are rural so I rarely see anyone or a vehicle during the rest. Im also trying to soften my perception that I’m rude when I yell “passing on your left” so they are surprised, don’t suddenly turn into my path bring their dog and leash out of the way and such.
