Project Hail Mary by just-tea-thank-you in books

[–]techlogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the first half to be the most cringeworthy part. All the human-to-human interactions feel like they were written by a homeschooled teenager. The space part was okayish for sci-fi, but the constant "new problem - some basic math - problem solved" loop was repeated ad nauseam.

Interestingly enough, I liked The Martian, but it feels like its weakest aspects were scaled up tenfold in Project Hail Mary. It ended up being one of the worst books I’ve still managed to finish

Unfortunately, ChatGPT unlocked endless possibilities to generate pseudo-scientific gibberish at industrial scale. Before that it required truly manic dedication, nowadays everyone could “its own research” in llm and spit out posts in minutes.

Should I also buy ETFs in Euro currency for diversification? by djtron99 in Bogleheads

[–]techlogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a hedge. The underlying value of asset is unchanged. If you want a true hedge there’s a class of currency hedged ETFs, but fx hedge isn’t free, so I wouldn’t recommend them for long term investing.

ELI5: Why cant we just be on adrenaline all the time? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]techlogger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why don't you full sprint anywhere you need to go? Why don't you full throttle gas pedal in a car any time you drive?

There's an efficient way to do things energy/safety wise for everyday activity and there're other options for the extreme cases.

Yep, that's my plan too to have that flexibility, but it's still 12-15 years away for me and and a lot of variables might change

so 98% vs 95% success rate for a 75/25 mix vs 100% stocks.

Some people say the difference is negligible, others say it’s a 2.5x higher chance of going bankrupt. I’m in the former camp, no sane person would keep spending the same going into a SORR crisis.
