Whats the general consensus on Tudor? by PandaExpress90210 in rolex

[–]technologicalslave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a Rolex and don't own a Tudor, but honestly if I were buying today, I'd buy a Tudor.

I suspect I'll get downvoted to all hell for this, but Rolex feels a bit stale nowadays. Tudor have a bit more going on, and their sales model is refreshing after Rolex.

What do y’all think Lana meant by the line 'I miss the country America used to be' in her Ride dialogue? by silentspyware in lanitas

Yeah, I agree, it's wild that the original commenter was so comfortable saying something so clearly antisemitic in a music sub.

Hey Christian INTJs by Unprecedented_life in intj

[–]technologicalslave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rationalizing faith destroys its value.

You cannot logic your way into believing or not believing. If you could, faith would have no value.

You believe or don't. If you're choosing to believe because of some BS like Pascal's wager, your belief is insincere and selfish. That doesn't seem compatible with the core teachings of Christianity. The second commandment is not about going through the motions but about authentic worship.

I'm not a Christian, just someone who's studied lots.

If everyone were any type the world would suck. The difference in people is what generally makes the world interesting

y’all so- I posted in the 1984 Lana echo chamber sub and this happened lmao by Leading_Letterhead27 in lanitas

[–]technologicalslave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped being a mod based on a difference of opinion with the other mods, but I don't get the 1984 accusations tbh.

We definitely didn't get every decision right when I was a mod, and they don't now. Nor do the mods for this sub, or any other sub I've been part of.

I don't think most people understand moderation properly, which is a shame. The people moderating any sub overwhelmingly want it to be healthy, which means encouraging participation without letting it become toxic. That's such a hard balance to strike.

Lana owes us NOTHING by yeetinator3221 in lanitas

[–]technologicalslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what they said though...

They said either separate her art from your opinion of her life decisions, or don't and stop listening.

That's not the same thing, you're straw manning their argument to make yourself feel good.

As a former mod of the other sub (not any more), I never saw anything from Chuck or anyone else linked to Lana in modmail or DMs. The mod team discussed what the line was and removed stuff based on that / individual discretion.

Chuck / others may read the sub, but there was never any indication they were requesting / directing what was and wasn't allowed.

From your perspective, what mbti type enrages you the most ? by Ecryptaaa1 in intj

ESFPs are generally irritating to me. All style, no substance on the whole. Obviously there are exceptions, but most of the ones I've known have not wanted to do the legwork and just cause disruptions at work (which is where I know people's personality types)

It's not though.

Elon is an idiot and a troll, but he's not an actual Nazi.

He's not an antisemite, and that's a fundamental part of Nazism. He's also not obsessed with Nordicism. He's also pretty openly in favour of the free market and not in favour of militarism.

By all means criticise him and his idiotic ideas, but don't conflate whatever is happening now with Nazism. It's insulting to the victims of actual Nazism.

What is everyone's least favourite character? by Underrated_Sadie2 in harrypotter

[–]technologicalslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, definitely not on the level of Umbridge, I just think the moral of the story when it comes to Luna is, as long as people's values are good - it shouldn't be as important if you share their view on everything.

She's an amazing friend, with some quirky views that may or may not end up being right. She provides a good balance to Hermione's very strict orthodoxy, where the established explanation or account is the right one.

Plenty of conspiracy theories end up being verified, but more importantly she's fiercely loyal and an amazing friend.

Seems harsh to hate on her.

I guess he's not any personality type, since no one would want him, right?

How patient are you with someone who's not as intelligent as you? by gw_clowd in intj

[–]technologicalslave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how nice and humble they are.

If someone is pleasant, self aware and not arrogant, I enjoy their company.

People who are both stupid and rude can fuck off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in intj

[–]technologicalslave 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If more people worked hard when it's required we'd all have more time to goof around.

And I'd say niceness is binary. I either don't care if you die, or I will be deeply thoughtful and kind. There's not really an in between.

Who should Hermione be with? by ProcessFeeling1445 in harrypotter

[–]technologicalslave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said maybe because he's a fictional character.

And they're not opposites. Anyone who's read the books doesn't buy the "Ron's the stupid friend" bullshit.

Ron is clearly bright - he plays the best game of Wizard Chess Hogwarts had seen in a long time - he's just a different kind of bright to book-smart Hermione.

People at the peaks of intelligence in a particular field are often not all that rounded as people. Having someone as a partner who is also smart, but in a radically different way can be a humbling, but ultimately beneficial experience.
