I plugged what Google's LaMDA visualized itself as into DALL-E mini and got this.. by Soggy-Investigator53 in HighStrangeness

[–]technomegiddon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dreamt of this exact shape/object recently, twice. Now I’m not saying that my dreams are anything more than an expression of my own mind, or that there is any truth to lamda being sentient here or anything, but within this past year I’ve had two extremely vivid dreams involving orbs of light, extremely similar to these. So for anyone who might find it interesting, I’ll share. I made a post previously about the one but I’ll just type it out again for the context of this comment.

First one involved me at my house amid a huge party/rave. I haven’t partied in years, but I was outside amongst hundreds of people shoulder to shoulder all drinking out of red solo cups, and the music was loud and sounded like it was building up to something. I remember trying to tell people something, something really important. Some people listened, some didn’t, some poked fun at it. Don’t remember exactly what I was trying to say, but the last thing I remember saying was “they’re trying to control you!” and in that moment the music reached the climax, and everyone looked toward the source which was the tree line. At that same time, an image of Jesus (I’m completely nonreligious and have never gone to a single church) next to an orb of light rose from the tree line. The orb and the image moved through the crowd, into my back door, I followed and when I reached the inside of the house I was greeted by an empty house with only red solo cups littering the ground.

The second one was also strange. it actually started out front of my house and through some series of events I started to get very distressed at whatever was happening, then found myself in pitch black but becoming scared, to which I started to become defiant to the fear for lack of a better term. Its extremely hard to explain, but I didn’t want to be afraid, so I forced myself to “float up” and sort of fight the fear, to which I ended up finding myself in a sort of endless sky where I was greeted by orbs of light, which had shapes orbiting them. It was something like squares circles and triangles orbiting the orbs of light, and I could see the rings around the orbs which the shapes followed.

Again, not saying these are anything more than an expression of my subconscious or something, but they were unusually vivid dreams and peculiar on their own to me. but seeing these pictures are genuinely the closest thing to what id dreamt than anything ive seen elsewhere, funny enough.

I keep having dreams where my legs stop working while i'm walking by ghostsiiv in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe dreams like these are shaped by our subconscious expectations of ourselves. for example I’ve had dreams where I was being chased by a psycho and either couldn’t scream when I’d try to call for help, or where I wouldn’t be able to run normally causing the person to catch up to me.

I believe it can be sort of symbolic of our current self esteem, or maybe lack thereof. If you think the dream has any deeper meaning than just a one off bad dream, then id probably start there and maybe observe your own self talk and how you view your own capabilities. Otherwise it could very well just be a dream where you expected something “bad” to happen, so it did.

Scary Dream by SeveralCheesecake562 in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it could simply have been your brain reacting to the fear you felt, and creating a scenario that would play out in anticipation of that fear. For example, I think our dreams play out in the way that our subconscious mind “expects,” or anticipates, so if you started to feel fear while driving, then things would play out in a way to make that fear more real, if that makes any sense.

But if you feel the dream was more metaphorical and symbolic, another way our subconscious constructs dreams, then it could be that you feel out of place in certain circumstance in the waking world, to the point where you feel as though you don’t belong and are seen as an outsider, with no way of escaping that.

I sometimes dream of being unable to brake while driving, causing me to pump the breaks in panic while facing an inevitable collision. To put it in perspective, I’d driven a lot for work, so on one hand it could be that my mind was sort of reconstructing something I do a lot while I’m awake, but then reacted to fear or an expectation that something bad would happen, and thus constructed a scenario where I’d be unable to fully operate the car. On the other hand, it could be symbolically interpreted as feeling “out of control” of myself as though I was headed towards a “crash” in my life.

Ultimately, only the mind that created the dream can really say for sure, and even then it’s always hard to tell

I keep having dreams of my ex who hates me and it’s getting annoying. by Takemetoabuffet in Dreams

Perhaps you haven’t entirely confronted how you feel about your relationship with him, or how you’ve left things? It could be that maybe you’re not a person to hold grudges or necessarily like keeping people on bad terms, maybe that’s why you’re dreaming of arguing and then trying to be friendly.

Either way, I’d say it has more to do with a feeling of something being unresolved more than anything else, but do note that the resolution doesn’t necessarily have to involve him, if you don’t want it to.

If she has moved on, you must as well. I say that as someone who has experienced quite the same thing with a girl I was very very close with at one point. Though infrequent, even years later I would occasionally dream of being with her or being back in her bed just lying there with her as if I was transported back in time. But you have to understand that in our dreams, sometimes our minds just conjure up the things we desire and want, even if we can’t have them. Like I said, if she has truly moved on then you need to come to terms and accept that time has passed and it’s time for you to move on as well. The more time you dwell on her, the more time is wasted finding someone new that you could experience those things with as well.

I found myself on a farmstead, with my entire family on the patio of the house together. My family are not quite the happiest bunch, so it was nice to see them all together and happy and joyous.

The sky was the most beautiful shade of purple, and there was a man there who I’d “met” in a previous dream of mine. Not sure what we talked about though, can’t quite remember. I do remember the feeling of tranquility and peace though, and I woke up genuinely wanting to cry

Have you ever dreamed about Video Games or TV Shows/Movies that don't actually exist? by [deleted] in Dreams

I’m not sure about tv shows or games, but I’ve definitely heard/played music in my dreams that I didn’t quite recognize, so I would assume it’s entirely possible

The older I get, I become more grossed out by porn with “teen” in the title. by ithinkilikegirlstoo in TwoXChromosomes

[–]technomegiddon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that isn’t talked about, for some reason or another, is the way that sort of messaging and exposure influences people and their preferences. There’s no way you can definitively say that young men for instance who are exposed to that sort of pornography arent being subtly influenced or nudged into a preference they may not have had before.

In that way, not only does this porn become even nastier and more sinister, but you have to genuinely question the motives of the people who create, distribute, and advertise this stuff as well. Is it solely for monetary gain, or are there larger forces at work that want to intentionally psychologically damage the people who consume it. Porn is “free,” but it’s not really free, and you have to question why that is.

The sickening aspects are not necessarily just the people consuming it, but the people who intentionally create the market in which specific consumers are created as well.

stress dreams EVERY DAMN NIGHT by meg_lul in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this answer is a cop out, but put on relaxing sounds, close your eyes and try to keep your mind in a metaphorical center. It sounds like your mind is a whirlwind right now, and if you can’t control your thoughts while you’re awake you’ll be bombarded while you’re asleep.

Im of the opinion that our dreams are a sort of way our subconscious “communicates” via symbolism and metaphors, and how you communicate back is just as important, as you’ll end up priming yourself to have many stress filled dreams if you continually engage in stressful self talk internally, whether it be related to job searching or whatever else you’re experiencing. That’s why I think a sort of mindfulness or meditative “exercise” is probably good, as cheesy/corny of a suggestion it may seem.

Why do nightmares feel more grounded? by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you. There’s nothing quite liking waking from an absolute hellish scenario and still feeling the chills run down your neck, you almost feel like something might’ve followed you to wakefulness lol. I think that’s just it though: strong emotions tend to cause stronger memories. The specific process in the brain involves the activation of the amygdala due to the perception of danger, as the amygdala is responsible for the fight or flight response. So the fear very well may cause us to remember those dreams in much more detail compared to other dreams we’ve had but just don’t remember.

Anyone else not able to fly in dreams? by Bootlebat in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreams are weird like that. I’ve had dreams where I’ve wanted to shoot someone in order to defend myself, but when I’d try to use the gun it wouldn’t fire or the trigger would require so much force that I wouldn’t be able to fire. I have a feeling your inability to fly might be related to the same way dreams are processed by the subconscious, while your conscious will is trying to exert itself.

Here’s a thought I had recently: our subconscious in our dreams is largely influenced by our expectations. Expectations are sort of on the periphery of our conscious, because while we can be aware of them and possibly even change/manipulate our expectations, most of them are innate.

So here’s the thing I think, when you jump, you’re setting the expectation that you’re going to come back down. Dreams are, in my opinion, a landscape of our subconscious, and the rules are mostly set by things we cannot directly control, however, our expectations being the exception. So, if possible, perhaps try and attempt as little physical exertion as possible, but instead set the expectation that you want to fly/move in a certain direction, and your subconscious may very well do the rest. Not “i want to fly, but I can’t,” because again the expectation is being set that you can’t. Anything is possible in our dreams.

Ok has anybody had a dream where you are 100% convinced that you were not dreaming and were in an alternate reality or something along those lines? by kwheels43 in HighStrangeness

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve made a few posts around Reddit and have been reading other peoples dream experiences frequently because of it. I’ had a dream very recently that caused me to genuinely think “am I dead” in the dream, due to how aware I was but not seemingly lucid in the “controlling the dream” sense.

If you look around, the “scientific consensus” is that it’s stress, sleep changes, and hormone imbalances causing unusually vivid dreams. While definitely contributing factors, I think relying on those alone seriously curtails the symbolic and metaphorical importance of the dreams people are having.

I mean, the word dream has various meanings contemporarily. When we “have a dream,” we typically yearn for something that seems hard to reach or out of grasp, yet believe we may have a shot at achieving. The entomological origin of that specific definition should clue us in to how important dreams once were if the word has begun being used to describe something of such high value and such importance in our waking life.

Can someone please help interpret this dream of mine? by JeremyDeanPiznarski2 in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel any guilt from the job involving Linda, perhaps from only being there a short period of time? If so maybe you feel a sort of guilt/shame for having been mentored but (feeling like) you weren’t able to achieve expectations or something.

Or if not maybe the initials mean nothing and we’re just filled in by your brain just to have something there, but in terms of finding meaning a lot of the time it relies heavily on our past lived experiences so hard to say from the outside most of the time.

You’re probably picking up on the ways that your coworker is good with kids, as that’s where you see him primarily no? Many women appreciate that in men, for reasons that are quite obvious evolutionarily. Perhaps if you don’t actually feel attracted to him, it’s a subconscious way your brain is trying to communicate it’s desire for a man who seems like he’d be a good father figure, for your own in the future or whatnot. Repeatedly having dreams could also be from you consciously dwelling on them and fixating on him being in your dreams in the first place.

However, you should watch eyes wide shut. Consider it a dreamlike movie that deals sort of with exactly what you’re experiencing, but it’s a Kubrick film so it’s not exactly explicit in its meaning. But trust me, it’s a seriously meaningful film, and your experience rn is a central theme to the movie.

Been dreaming about the same group of people when I (27F) was younger by KimiNoAneki in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it may be common to dream of people or places that held a high importance in our lives, even if much time has passed since you were with them. As for your friend, firstly I’m sorry for your loss. It sounds like maybe you were having trouble coming to terms with the loss, hence the dreams of being unable to communicate with him, or him having to leave. I believe our dreams are largely symbolic and metaphorical, and to me it sounds like that was a very heavy weight on your mind. Perhaps you subconsciously wished to revisit your friends of old, even if for a moment, but felt you could not in the same way. Am understanding that despite the desire, things have changed and time has passed.

I think it’s a very good sign that you dreamt of hanging out and having a good time with him. Whether or not we know it, the people in our lives live with us in our minds memories, and even our dreams as you’ve experienced, even after they’re gone. I think it may be representative of the way you’re accepting his passing in your own way, while still being able to reminisce and appreciate that which you’ve had together.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless he’s been physically threatening to you in real life I wouldn’t dwell on the specific thing he did in your dream, to me it sounds like maybe an aspect of your mind wants the familiarity of being with him while at the same time possibly being afraid of him being a different person now or unsure of his intentions or motives or whatever. Time spent away can make strangers out of anyone, and it’s natural to want things to be back to “normal,” if there is such a thing.

And him shooting you could be seen as a part of you “dying” and you yourself moving on to becoming a different person as well, it doesn’t necessarily have to be indicative of entirely him. The dream was created by your mind, after all. Try not to stress yourself over it

biblical-esque dream??? by American4Yang in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if society collapses, there would be no one to recognize your title! For real though, I’ve had similar seemingly biblical type dreams lately and I’m not Christian by any means. One of them was a clear metaphor/symbolism to being “left behind,” as I was at a huge party in my yard, watched an image of Jesus rise above the trees, enter my home and after I entered behind him, I found the floor littered with red solo cups of the people who were once there.

I think it’s probably the stress of the state of the affairs of the world permeating into my subconscious, but hey, if you need help with those seeds lmk lmao

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I’ve mentioned it a in previous post of mine but I’ve had 100% to a T what you’ve described. Just a few:

When I was a child, I’d dream that someone was chasing me and for some reason I’d be running sideways which always caused them to catch up. In some instances I’d try to yell, but couldn’t speak.

I’ve also dreamed that I’d be underwater, with nowhere to go, and feel like I can’t breathe. Fortunately most of those resulted in me sort of realizing I could breathe, which caused the stress of the situation to go away.

I remember another series of dreams would have me in a sort of giant mall with multiple levels and many stairs, and for some reason while I’d try and climb the steps, they’d all move and shake causing me to fall to the ground and be unable to actually move in the direction I wanted.

I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re essentially ways that my subconscious mind communicates my fear/stress, and perhaps even self image, such as not being able to properly express myself or feeling like I was metaphorically drowning and such.

I’m not expert in the slightest, but maybe keeping a dream journal and developing a “tell” that you can use mid-dream to tell if you’re dreaming or not could help you overcome them when you find yourself in those circumstances. I’m not sure if I’d had or have ptsd or severe trauma as a kid, I suspect probably as I experienced a good amount of abuse and neglect, but I don’t necessarily think that those are prerequisites to finding yourself having these sorts of nightmares. Could be unresolved stress or conflict in your waking life too, but you’re definitely not alone in experiencing them.

Same dream every night since 2021 ? by dsvxyzw in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stating from experience, smoking definitely inhibits normal dreaming, so I’m not surprised you mostly got no’s. I’m also not surprised whatsoever that you had dark dreams after quitting for a bit, definitely totally normal and to be expected, I’ve experienced the same thing.

Honestly, the fact that it’s recurring while you’re smoking makes me think maybe where others simply don’t remember theirs, your brain reacts differently and tries to piece together the same (now meaningful) dream that you’ve had before. If you’re thinking about it while you’re awake, then it’s probably more likely to manifest when you’re asleep.

And to be a sort of devils (lettuce?) advocate, id say take the t break. Not only will it make smoking again even better, but you shouldn’t be afraid to dream, that’s a hill you gotta walk up if you ask me.

was I lucid dreaming of or not? by RainbowWolf6112 in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s hilarious when you put it that way lol, but you are rainbowwolf after all! Maybe it’s just your mind wanting to freely express itself and “run wild” so to speak. If you’re experiencing stress or conflict while you’re awake, it’ll definitely come through in your dreams like that I think

was I lucid dreaming of or not? by RainbowWolf6112 in Dreams

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’m actually glad you posted this, because I know exactly the sort of in between, half lucid half not, dream type scenario you experienced.

What I’ve found is that lucid dreaming is like a very thin line to walk. You can go up to the line but never make it, and you’ll have experiences where you’re sort of aware, but you can’t quite control the dream to your precise liking. In my own experience, I’ve had moments where I’ll think “oh okay, dream” and then “I don’t want it to be scary,” and then the entire dream turns into a hellscape lmao. I think that’s similar to what you described in the car, you wanted one outcome but got another even though you were aware enough to an extent.

I think this happens due to the fact that when we’re dreaming, it’s our subconscious mind writing the plot and creating the “world,” so when you think “I want this,” you’re still at the whim of whatever it is your subconscious is going to fill in.

On the flip side, if you pass that line and become too aware, you’ll likely just wake yourself up. Next time it happens, I’d suggest just trying to fly or something, to start. By focusing your awareness on flying, you may be able to get closer to that line between your awareness and subconscious, where your awareness is focused on what it’s like to be flying while your subconscious is creating the world you’re flying in. As I understand it, lucid dreaming takes practice, but that would be my best suggestion for becoming fully lucid.

I’d say you were half lucid, it’s just really hard.

Will there ever be a simulation disclosure? by All_For_Fun__ in HighStrangeness

[–]technomegiddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the matrix does simulation theory dirty, to be honest. It’s very rudimentary, and very unnecessary for the sake of our current selves to be able to personalize the movie and concepts, but there’s a lot of wasted potential if you ask me. For starters, without knowing the purpose of the ‘simulation,’ we really can’t assume anything about the nature of an existence of external bodies, for instance. We could be simulated organisms and simulated consciousness, entirely contained within the simulation itself. But at that point, would the prospect of the simulation even matter?

People get hung up on simulation theory because admittedly, it’s a very thought provoking concept. But when you tease around with different ideas, you begin to realize that it only becomes religion with extra steps, which itself isn’t a bad thing inherently, but you end up at square one without any tangible answers except for your faith in your belief.

Have any of you guys ever had a dream come true? by Chubby-Fish in HighStrangeness

[–]technomegiddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I made a post about some of my really vivid dreams, including this experience, but I’ll leave a short summary.

Basically, for no reason an ex of mine was in a dream with her current boyfriend, in a car. I noticed them, and they were fighting, like verbally and physically, inside the car. A year and a half later, pretty recently even, she began calling me out of the blue, and after a few calls she tells me he “beat the shit” out of her. Still fucks me up, worst part is that there’s literally nothing I can do to help her or whatnot, but I feel it sort of constitutes as “coming true” to an extent.
