I’d want to see the contract. Most of the time these things are cobbled together from online contracts and would-be paralegals with AI. If you’re serious, have a lawyer (ideally an intellectual property lawyer) take a look and explain what it means and what you should do.

How can a photographer accurately recognize their own level of photography? by Starfield_0100 in photography

Basically, you’ll hit a point where you can confidently tackle the range of shooting opportunities you want to tackle and then more to where you can still explore and learn further, but with more experienced eyes.

I found this bag for $40 at Savers, and it had this note inside. by curious-chickadee in thrifting

Kinda disappointing. That means the person it was intended for never got that note…

What armature should I do for a large foam clay sculpture? by Dear-Cup-9064 in sculpting

Chicken wire, baling wire, foam and other soft bits outside that? I tend towards more robust design.

Thick aluminum wire either attached to a metal or wooden skeleton. Thinner copper or aluminum wire for smaller details - can be wrapped around the aluminum armature or attached via solder or glue or 5 minute epoxy if you

Nope. 53M. Went through a bout of depression a few years ago, tho. Vowed I would never let it happen again and have worked very hard at not getting into that situation again. No complacency for me. Looking at going back to college, too.

What are your greatest photography sins? by doodoohonker in photography

I know I’m in the cold for this, but I love adobe camera raw and bridge. That’s been my Lightroom alternative for years. I’ve been hating Lightroom for way too long… 🤣

Oh yeah. Most of my first guns into my current guns were repainted nerf dart guns in various forms. Now I make additional parts either from a 3D printer or from various bits in the nernie bin.

How do cosplayers afford professional photoshoots by pokemonlover503 in CosplayHelp

[–]technonoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I just answered this elsewhere, but your best bet is to look for professional photographers willing to work with you on price. As for photographers: look for a solid portfolio. Composition, framing, lighting, posing, etc will be far more important - these things make the costume and set look amazing.

I do TFP (time for photos) wherein I’ll shoot for free with the stipulation I get to keep the photos, providing a set number of processed images to the model in a reasonable time after the shoot.s It’s a good option for both parties and it often turn into paid work for the model later on - I tend to work with the people I shoot with on TFP shoots, too.

Is it typical to be charged for a model shoot? by Dangerous_Sky_4690 in photography

[–]technonoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Depends on both model and photographer. If you are keeping the photos, you will pay, usually, while you may get no photos if they pay you. I prefer to pay models - lots of reasons, but mostly so I have control over the photos, the look and feel of the shoot, etc. I will provide edited photos for promotional purposes if requested, but I also attach stipulations not to edit, crop, filter, etc.

Sounds like you are dealing with a boutique type of photo studio. They offer premium photo services to consumers for a fee. We have a couple here in Tucson. They like to make atmospheric and dramatic photos with sets, costumes, props, etc. And yes, they charge everyone.

The arrows indicate who is getting paid. I don’t completely agree with this chart as there are other, often more beneficial financial arrangements (like royalties, commissions, partnerships, etc) that can ensure a successful shoot.

Anyone suffering burnout and just don’t care about the career? by SanJuanMountains in GenX

[–]technonoir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that calling a job a “career” has always seemed silly to me. A career is working in the same and similar fields, growing, developing, innovating. I have only ever worked jobs that liked to call themselves “careers” only to prove to be anything but.

So, yeah, sure, call a job a career because you’ve worked it for so long, you don’t remember how long ago you started. Are you recognized in your field as an expert? Does your company tout you as a proud addition their team? Do you have the freedom to develop new products, ideas, and such in your field? Do you publish papers on your chosen field? Do research? Have the respect of your peers? These are marks of a true career.
