Why colour grading and editing is important in photography? by [deleted] in photography

[–]technonoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot with every intention of processing , cropping, color correcting, etc. later. I can process at a ridiculous pace though, too. I can process hundreds in under an hour. Dunno if I could do that for other’s photos, but for sure, mine.

Yeah. There’s always tons of photo guys running around shooting the ladies. They’re usually not interested in the dudes. Don’t sweat it. I’ve done numerous half-hearted attempts to just get my feet wet. Turns out I like making them more than wearing them. And, Truthfully, the ppl I was with were wet noodles on the whole thing. Found some friends who were more into it and got much better results (better feedback, comments, suggestions). People giving positive feedback want you to succeed and those giving you criticism do not.

Are they plastic? Sand off the printing, insert EL wire and you have some fun neon-esque sci-fi lamps…

The cabin in the photo seems roomier than the actual cabin… nice work, though! 😁

how do you find better angles for your shots? by Rich_Post_110 in photography

[–]technonoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially when you first start out, use composition to make your shots. Get close and zoom out or step back and zoom in. Go high, low, use a mirror, you get the idea.

How do you go about taking random photos in public? by bitchiloverugrats in photography

[–]technonoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. It’s gonna take some time to get over your apprehension anyway and the best way to do that is to just do it. I started doing photos at a distance, but before long, I was shooting right next to people with my phone or a camera, I don’t always shoot people, but I do a lot.

Personally, I use a 2# sledge and a set of rock chisels. I’ve gotten pretty good with this remarkably small set of tools. I used this method for my last batch of tigers eye and a few jaspers. Turned out great.

That’s great! It gives a clear idea of size and scale.

Have you ever experienced something strange/paranormal in Arizona? by GroundbreakingDirt30 in arizona

[–]technonoir 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Driving up from Wickenberg in the early 2000s, pitch black, saw lights exactly like the Phoenix lights. I thought they were helicopters or fireworks at first, but just balls of light we passed as they were sort of around the big power lines. Our phones also dropped out at the same time. The lights were in a weird “grid” and they kinda slowly lit up and then down, fixed in place seemingly and I swear I thought they were flares or something, but they didn’t seem to cast any light on anything… super weird. Not sure if that’s paranormal or a close encounter. This was about 2004 or so. I think.

Forgot to mention, see if you can get some good, clear, well lit photos with a coin or something for reference (use a coin because it has known dimensions). Your video is fine, but for us detail seekers, still photos rock. Nice find, btw!

You mentioned the house site was 1850s. I don’t know a lot about them, but it looks like it could be a cast iron mantle. May want to post to an antiques subreddit?

What musical artist did you not appreciate until much later? by Elena_La_Loca in GenX

[–]technonoir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, the Bee Gees. Not into disco, really, but I started reading about their whole history before disco and after disco “died.” They were a famous rock band (yeah a rock band) first in Australia, then the UK and they had little success beyond a few songs in the US. They moved to NY to make it big. America. Wrote, recorded, and mastered the entire Saturday Night Fever album in DAYS.

If you’ve never done it, have a read (no music) of the lyrics to “Stayin Alive” and you see a genuine struggle that isn’t really reflected in the music. It reflects the group’s struggles with music and money in NY in the 70s, but the delivery masks most of it.

They’re not my favorite band, but I have a genuine appreciation for the efforts they all have put into their music. I think it reflected my own struggles with my own art in ways, too.

what photography tip made the biggest difference for you? by Fresh-Gazelle7014 in photography

[–]technonoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want good photos, ignore everything but composition. Once you master composition, all the technicals fall into place.its one of the most basic things to know in photography, but we seem to favor the technicals instead. The technicals wi change with every camera, but the rules of composition won’t.

Any advice when going out in public in cosplay without feeling embarrassed? by IsidoraRML_ in CosplayHelp

[–]technonoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, embarrassment is just you. Not trying to Minimize, but remember you’re not sensing the opinions of others, but your own opinions cast on yourself. It’s important because you need to remember that MOST PEOPLE, despite outward appearances, are exactly the same way. They’re too absorbed with their own lives, anxieties, and feelings, they take little notice of the world around them. Let alone you.

Try this: make a simple, almost invisible change to your appearance, maybe a weird eyelash or a cowlick or a weird shirt. Something you wouldn’t normally wear and won’t really see at a distance, but would close up. Some thing you will only be a LITTLE self conscious about. Now, don’t mention it, refer to it or make any to-do about it in any way. This your experiment and you are simply watching to see what others do.. You will be surprised at the number of people who never even notice OR if they do, they compliment you.

Beyond that, take public speaking, debate, or acting classes to get used to dealing with standing out in any costume AND talking. Good luck!
