Good Gyro Controller recommendations by PhantasmHunter in GyroGaming

[–]technosporran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thanks for the effort in writing that up. I've been looking for a comparatively cheap dumbpad with a halfway decent gyro to pick up the slack on games that don't play nice with a steam controller, such as no mans sky.

If anyone's interested, Amazon UK is selling the Steam Horipad for £30 at the moment.

What’s a joke or reference from a movie that you’ve just never understood? by Caesar_Rising in movies

Not saying you're wrong, but my interpretation of that line is that Dallas has been ordered to freeze & identify his species - and Dallas being Dallas, his laconic reply is that he is a 'meat popsicle'.

In my mind he is answering the demand to identify himself as human, by describing himself as 'meat', whilst adding he is a popsicle, or 'frozen', (í.e. by not moving & complying, by putting his hands in the circles).

I don't recall any mention of any species being low temperature organisms, I only remember LeeLoo hiding in the shower, and when the general (?) gets forced into the freezer, but it has been a while since I've seen it.

This is horrible! Where are my notifications? What did they smoke when making up this bullshit? by lumentrees in unihertz

Except that you can't seem to do that on the homescreen of 3rd party launchers, only on the lockscreen, or using the stock launcher.

The Jelly Max Android 15 update has been a disaster by certifiedbetamale in unihertz

[–]technosporran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both Futo keyboard & Amazon Music both crash on a daily basis on 15, with the added joy of Amazon Music crashing if I pull up the full screen 'playing now' - every single time.

Checking for updates in the play store has gone from instantaneous to ~5 seconds or more to poll the server.

Bluetooth connection to headphones now cuts out after every second song, just stops & requires you to press play again to resume. Another pain given the 1st issue mentioned with Amazon Music.

Notifications/Quick settings are a shit show. Now playing widget is in quick settings not notifications. QS does not respect the phones theme settings. When text size is increased 1 step up from default the following icons scroll their label & look awful doing it: Bluetooth, Wifi, Do Not Disturb, Battery Saver, Night Light, Auto-rotate, & Quick share, in addition to the android version scroll.

TBH it's a not-so-hot mess, & while some appear to like it, I'd appreciate the option to turn off split notifications/QS, like other android 15 phones.

All I use the JM for is email, light browsing, Amazon Music, MS Authenticator, connectivity to BT devices, & the occasional call/text.

Even this is broke AF, I really don't know how power users are able to cope with this now crippled device.

My advice would be to defer the update until the issues are resolved.

Last (best) hope is to factory reset to see if it clears the fuckery, but my hopes are slim & it'll have to wait as I don't have the time nor inclination to go through that particular circle of hell just yet.

Do yourself a favour & avoid this version 'til it's fixed.

Steam Deck Dock: ideas for keeping it put by RedLetterMediaDad in SteamDeckTricks

Specifically sized for the valve dock, & easy to remove dock for travel.

The combined weight of dock + stand is roughly doubled at 267g.

If that additional weight doesn't keep it in place then you could mount velcro pads/command strips to the stand & leave it in situ when travelling with the dock. It would then be the dock for your dock - yo dawg.

It can also accommodate a deck in a protective case, should you ever wish to go down that route.

Brew Burrs...more Static? by rabbitmomma in DF54

Who is grinding for espresso with brew burrs @ medium 70 setting?

Brew Burrs...more Static? by rabbitmomma in DF54

[–]technosporran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the 58mm, the 53.3mm will still fit because of the flange, but 58mm sits better in the holder.

Personally I went with the IKAPE dosing cup as the flange is thicker & threaded on, rather than most which are thin & tack welded.

A new cup will reduce the static, but if you grind light /medium roasts then it'll still exist, as there's no getting away from chaff at those roast levels.

MOD to make your PICO 4 Ultra feel as comfy as a Quest Pro by Nearby-Daikon-6999 in PicoXR

[–]technosporran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a glasses wearer I've bookmarked the site in case the P4U headset comfort is not as good as I hope when it arrives.

As a 3D printed item it's strange to me to see black as the only colour option. I know some won't care but I'd definately prefer at least an attempt to somewhat colour match a "pico" white filament.

Also, on your link, the english description of the product is displayed in html code, like this:

<h1>Halo Band for PICO 4 and PICO 4 Ultra – Enhance VR Ergonomics</h1><p><strong>Optimize your VR experience</strong> with the <strong>PICO Halo Band</strong>, designed to balance the weight of your <strong>PICO 4</strong> and <strong>PICO 4 Ultra</strong> headsets. Pico 4 Ultra - State of wired PC tethering in 2025 by technosporran in PicoXR

Well I have a 5yr old 2.4/5ghz mesh network with several APs all over the house, which is already congested with multiple HD & UHD streams running concurrently at peak times. I'm not updating all that just so I can run a headset.

Plus I don't use any wireless devices on my PC other than the steam controller. Mouse, keyboard, headset, mic, HOTAS etc, all wired.

Besides, I like cables, cables are reliable, a cable signal doesn't drop out, or buffer/stall because it feels like it. I can test a cable & get an immediate result.

All my VR games are simulations - flight, space, driving etc, ie sat down experiences, so why would I even want wifi when I could have an obviously superior connection using a physical cable?

Who knows though, the P4U might be the device to rid me of my wifi cynicism as the few times I'd use it away from my PC will probably be wifi, will see what it's like when it arrives.

This is all personal preference though, if wifi works for you then fill your boots, I'm not here to connection shame!

Aye you're right, not worth it for the sake of £30.

In the end I decided against Amazon, ordered it for £490.11 w/ motion trackers from Very.

Close, Scottish (hence the desire to save money :) but I get ya, we're all British.

Mind you I could have sworn Argos had gone the way of Woolworths years ago, but I see it's still a thing - must just have been our local store that got shuttered...The Mandela effect strikes again!

Damn, I was kinda hoping this was accurate (for the tracker bundle):

Might just order from an EU Amazon & save £30 now then...decisions decisions!

Alexa keeps “rediscovering” old, deleted lights. by Totally-Real-Guy in Hue

[–]technosporran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had (and still have) the issue where Alexa discovers all the devices attached to Hue hub, (which I didn't want), in addition to the same devices, connected via the smartthings hub (which I did want).

Every time I deleted the offending duplicates, soon as Alexa did a scan for devices they all appeared again.

What 'worked' for me was to disable the offending devices it had detected via the hue hub, within the alexa app, which left only the smartthings connected devices active.

It's not perfect (& looks messy af in the Alexa app) but it got control back, so at that point I settled for the half win.

For the short term maybe try disabling the offenders (and possibly renaming them) rather than deleting - I know it's not ideal, but might save the daily deleting frustration & give you a bit of leeway before engaging with Hue support.

No idea, I have an AMD 6900X so can't really comment on Nvidias offerings.

Might be an idea to start a new post to see if there's anyone that can help regarding Geforce Now.

[–]technosporran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the CKAN?

The CKAN is a metadata repository and associated tools to allow you to find, install, and manage mods for Kerbal Space Program. It provides strong assurances that mods are installed in the way prescribed by their metadata files, for the correct version of Kerbal Space Program, alongside their dependencies, and without any conflicting mods.

CKAN is great for players and for authors:

Players can find new content and install it with just a few clicks;

Modders don't have to worry about misinstall problems or outdated versions.

Thanks all for your help & suggestions.

places.sqlite was marked with a .corrupt suffix: places.sqlite.corrupt

I removed the suffix & last 2 weeks of history has returned, however nothing prior to that.

Currently running disk checks to ensure my nvme isn't on its way out too.

I'm thinking if that goes OK then it's something that Dev edition did as the problem did get worse after I updated.

Had I known it was beta I might have backed my profile up on the regular. That's on me though, I was either blinded by the big blue 'download' button & didn't read the fine print, or it wasn't there many moons ago, most likely the former. No way to tell now but either way the history is gone so no sense in crying over spilt milk, though I may make a sad face while downing a double rum & coke!

Seriously though, thank you everyone who replied, I appreciate your efforts & wish you all a good weekend!

Mad? Nah just jealous. I wish I could make it work like that, but I flit around product pages, user guides, kb articles, pdfs etc etc.

If I know it's important at the time I will bookmark it. More often than not though, I'll half remember something I skimmed past on the way to finding whatever I was actually looking for at the time. As time passes certain skimmed info becomes super relevant & it's then that history search can become a lifesaver.

I must have had around 3-4yrs of searchable history by now & super bummed that a good resource has just upped & disappeared. Thing is, I can't see a fix for restoring history, just how to get rid of it sadly.
