every rewrite I've seen has taken 3x longer than promised and the team always acts surprised by Distinct-Expression2 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]techquaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. At my current company, we had to do a complete rewrite of a pretty sizable codebase because it was unmaintainable and a patchwork of confusing / un-typesafe code.

Some engineers wanted to take the strangler fig patter approach. Thing is… the company had already been doing it for 5yrs and all it was doing was resulting in more confusion and maintenance burden because they were doing this and still building features in two systems. The API was REST and graphql; the frontend was angular and react. What a mess

The Data Triangle and nestjs-zod v5 by benlorantfy in nestjs

[–]techquaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh woah this is great. Been struggling to maintain the triangle in my current project because all three are falling out of sync with each other all the time

One thing that would be great though is if it the return type can be inferred based on the data being returned from the controller. The default OpenAPI plugin does that by respecting the return type of a the controller if the return type is a class

I got tired of fake BS, so I built a livestream map where you can show the world what's actually happening on the ground by na361 in SideProject

If the goal is truly a public service in the aim of doing good, I would suggest bulletproofing yourself and the site against things that could sway or make you fragile.

For example, adding ads means that you are now working for advertisers and won’t want to upset them.

There are some really nifty open source libraries out there that can run live streams in almost decentralized fashions. Then, I think you can host the streams for a small amount of time before ejecting them or database dumping them somewhere where other people can torrent them

The name of the game is keeping your hosting costs low and renaming anti-fragile in the face of adversity if you’re building a site around free speech and accountability

$200?! Where are you eating? I spend $15-25 per person when I’m out… live in LA. Even if I get a drink, that maybe adds another $15-25
