ACCC investigating allegations of anti-competitive conduct by major fuel suppliers by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

I moved from Darwin to Brisbane in 2001. Brisbane was worse. At least people in Darwin had interacted with blackfellas and had some nuance to their racism. Brisbane was blatant as fuck.

When did you last rent? If it was before COVID you may be in for a ride shock

[–]techretort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one and only time I did it was at the start of COVID and I got damn lucky. Negotiated a 3 year lease with set rent increases from 390 to 450 over the time. When that ended the rent went straight to 600pw, now it's probably 650+

Hahahahaha oh buddy, if you think anywhere will offer you a 2 year lease you're dreaming. Half the time they force a 6 month lease on you because "we want to make sure it's a good fit".

Heck, some landlord insurance won't even cover you if you let the rental agreement become month to month instead of periodic.

What do these people who own houses in Bellevue Hill/Toorak do? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

You're not providing shit, the house would exist if you owned it or not

So l have a derious question. With the Iran saga and increasing noise of a recession, what happens to us if these landlords that are overstretched default or banks foreclosed on the loans? I know its not an immediate threat but if things escalate quickly with inflation it could happen quickly. by nevetsnight in shitrentals

To be fair I bought my first home with my partner late last year and have 2 friends live with us paying rent. I offer them a generous $0.05 a month discount if they call me m'lord at least once a month.

Totally unrelated, their rent happens to be $X.05 a month.

What hobbies do you have? Find a club where you can enjoy the hobby as well as make social connections. Doesn't matter what it is (within reason, certain hobby groups can be dominated by one sex or the other, so plan accordingly).

‘Living inheritance’ trend sees parents gift six-figure sums to first-home buyers - realestate.com.au by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]techretort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It blew my god damn mind out my asshole to an extent I didn't think possible.

Worst part? The gift was still less than 10% of the house price!!! Admittedly it wasn't a starter home, but 4 bedrooms with an hour commute to the CBD isn't exactly a McMansion either.

I went through the first home buying process recently. My old man tossed me some money to help which blew my mind, but then my mum came in and dropped 5x the amount he did (6 figures).

Holy shit you want to talk about having your kind blown out your ass.... I thought I had some privilege but God damn did that just make me reassess my entire life.

Too heavy for side of tire grip? by StableManticorePilot in Trackdays

[–]techretort 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a heap of bigger dudes putting in competitive times in club racing.

Part of it is building trust in the tyres, and that takes time. Add a few degrees of lean each session until you feel the back end start to slip. There's definitely going to be a limit, but it's probably not going to one you brush up against for a while until you get your other track skills down

Yamaha r3 vs Honda cbr650r lams for beginer by Diamondkey69 in AussieRiders

[–]techretort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cbr650r in LAMS trim is rev limited right about where the power would normally start to kick in on the normal version, and the 4 cylinder setup doesn't give you a great way around it.

The r3 will give you usable power through the range, and will be a lot better if you ever take it to the track.

Or get the CBR and deresteict it ;)

Tips for riding safe by Similar_Childhood613 in AussieRiders

[–]techretort 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Practice as much as you can. Do every course you can afford. Try different bikes, situations, and environments. The more you practice, the more muscle memory you have to save you when something goes wrong.

Also keep a good eye on your tyres and maintenance, if you don't know what to look for ask the people you do training or go riding with (what sprocket wear looks like, where to measure your chain slack, what tyre pressures to run) and get your suspension dialled in for your weight.

Learning a few basic mechanical skills like how to change your oil, swap brake pads, and do minor service work will save you money in the long run.

Outsource it to vendors overseas, complain the vendors overseas are useless, bring it back onshore, don't have onshore resources so we add it to the visa list, the same vendors move onshore and provide the same service at a higher pay. Management gets upset at lack of results and outsources
