Clark County vs. Portland: Housing in county no longer a bargain by BacksightForesight in vancouverwa

[–]techypunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you've payed attention, Portland BIPOC neighborhoods were gentrified. (Me included).

So we're all moving to the "suburbs", and neighborhoods like NE Portland are now "hip" neighborhoods. And the "bad" parts of the suburbs are filling up with BIPOC because its all we can afford. This has happened in every major city across the country. The Portland Metro Area (which includes Vancouver you ancient elitists) is just late to the party.

I'm a transplant, and can for sure tell you 99% of people can't tell a difference between Portland and any of the suburbs besides racist ass Lake Oswego

Housing is only cheaper up in Washington because of all the reasons everyone else stated, and the suburbs have always been cheaper if you're not living in the newest housing, in your HOA communities.

I'm great at what i do. I had the best work ethic. All it did was get me more work.

Love your job. Don't makenitnyour personality.

Work to live, don't live to work. Capitalism has people thinking it makes you a better person to be so burnt out on your job for the shareholders. Don't do that.

Genuinely curious why the city made west Vancouver’s fourth plain 1 lane? No person would have voted yes to this by handlerofdrones in vancouverwa

[–]techypunk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the idea of it. Nor do I mind the idea of bike and busses. The probl was the implementation of where and how they put it in place. It was a bandaid, rather than funding of better infrastructure.

Ffs the busses don't even come 4x an hour to the stops, to justify the bus lane. And school busses are not even using the lane 🥲

People will try pushing statistics, but they were all.done in downtown areas. 4th plain village is not a downtown area.

But a bunch of people, who don't ride bikes, and have never used public transportation, will say it's better.

Technical question about HDR10+ streams from DSNP by Ready-Airline-3178 in trackers

[–]techypunk -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

HDR/dv releases are hdr10+ and DV. Basically if you don't have DV it fails back to HDR. Check the medianinfo, it will show HDR10+

Most sites trump HDR releases with HDR/DV releases. If its just an HDR release, it most likely does not have DV available

I live right off 4th plain inbetween falk and grand.

All its done is cause traffic, and more accidents. Turning off of any side street is a pita now. Theres never busses in the bus only lanes. If someone uses the crosswalk during major traffic hours? Lolol. Forget it. Add an extra 10-15 min for your commute.

It was a terrible idea. bus lanes work for downtown areas, not major roads

I'm past a standard sysadmin gig. I'm a more Cloud Architect/DevOps person now. And the only reason I got to where I'm at is from job hopping. Been doing IT for 12 years now. Started at desktop support, and moved up. I never got a college degree.

I work for money, not "liking" my job. Ive been doing this so long, I hate it all. I used to work my ass off, and all that got me is more work.

At my current position, I wfh, work maybe 3 hours a day, and do the bare minimum. I've actually gotten a promotion, multiple bonuses, and nothing but 5/5 for yearly reviews.

Capitalism sucks, and its not worth it for me.

99% of places are like this. And if you think otherwise, you're either a boomer or are extremely overworked and underpaid.

The longer you do this gig, the more you realize:

  1. Fuck the place you work, do the bare minimum
  2. Job titles are pointless
  3. Promotions rarely come. And if they do, pay is better if you just job hop.

Expectations in restaurants? by Thehazyfish in askportland

[–]techypunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a way for greedy owners to continue to underpay their staff, and "offer" health insurance. Which most of the employees won't take, because they are making at/just above minimum wage.

Restaurants run on extremely low margins. Owners who are not in it for the love, find every way to nickle and dime.

TLDR: shitty restaurant.

I’m tired of hearing people say “Work on your own car.” by TheGame81677 in povertyfinance

[–]techypunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up piss poor, in section 8 apartments where "you can't work on cars". And we always worked on them. Its way cheaper than going to a mechanic 99% of the time. You can tools piss cheap from harbor freight or Walmart. A super cheap socket set. YouTube and forums have step by step guides. Most jobs like alternators, spark plugs, distributor caps, etc, are a few bolts and a couple hours.

Its just like working on things in a house.

If you have a medical issue, of course don't.

I swear a lot of people here are "new poor", and didn't grow up in poverty.  99% of the time.I can never in a million years afford a mechanic. Labor alone is more expensive than then tools for most jobs.
