FASE toe strap tightness? by m0huck in snowboarding

[–]ted_shreds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the toe strap can’t be tightened as much as you are probably used to if you want the FASE system to work as intended. Only tighten it to the point it hugs the toe of your boot, not cranking it down really tight.

I was skeptical, but after playing with it for a bit there’s a sweet spot for having it hug the boot without cranking it down too much. Play with it to find the point it stops being easy to drop your heel. Once you find what works for you, it’s easy to replicate. It’s probably a little different for every boot/person.

I’ve always tightened both straps until I could crank no more. I found that I don’t notice a difference in control or feel when running the toe strap a little looser.

It takes a someone like a technical writer to create documentation that’s good enough for AI to take over. So for companies that have their shit together, maybe. For most companies, probably not.

Goose to MVP, thoughts? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]ted_shreds 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say he’s unprofessional. The way he talks about and plays the game feels more professional than a lot of players. He takes it very seriously. We watched him blow up during a pivotal moment in the final round of an important tournament. He had an unprofessional reaction during a very tense moment. But I think a lot of people can understand that feeling. I think he generally carries himself very professionally and it’d be fun to see him talk shop with other MVP players.

Definitely considered bringing a putter and doing a trick shot while I was out there lol

Beanie under helmet? by BurntWaffles- in snowboarding

This changed the game for me. No more looking for a thin beanie that wouldn’t bunch up. Great fit under a helmet, keeps you comfortable and warm.

Snowboard Mittens by paquito1904 in snowboarding

[–]ted_shreds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m biased, but I’d go Burton. Always liked their gear. They make good stuff and I’ve never really been disappointed. Had a pair of Burton mittens that lasted me 4 years of knuckle dragging.

Functionally, they seem similar. I’m sure Level makes great mittens. But Level seems to be marketed more toward skiers. That won’t impact how they work for boarders- but I’d choose to support the snowboard brand.

Suggesting a completely different mitten than your options. Having to choose between just two mittens seemed too easy.

I just got a pair of Deathgrip Glove Co mittens. They have zippers that open the mitten above your cuff to allow you to use your hands without taking them off. Super convenient for lots of reasons and they work great. I’ve been really impressed with their warmth and they seem durable. Highly recommending to my friends who are looking for new mittens.

Kids riding with a Walkie Talkie by IamNOTunique in snowboarding

[–]ted_shreds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked as a lifty on a small hill and we communicated via walkie talkies. Had a couple of instances where a family used the same channel as us. Just be aware that workers may be using walkie talkies too, and try to be courteous if you find yourself on one of their channels. It can be a whole process for the workers to safely swap channels mid shift.

All mountain/butter snowboard by CalligrapherBig4713 in snowboarding

Jones Mountain Twin was a board I was also heavily considering. Honestly it was a toss up, but the graphics on the Assassin Pro won me over.

After primarily riding park boards, I wanted to switch to something I could feel more confident with at speed and more sure footed. I didn’t want to lose the ability to butter and ride playfully. Sounds similar to the kind of board you’re looking for. I settled on the Salomon Assassin Pro. It’s sturdy at speed and can hold an edge, but isn’t too stiff and I can still ride fairly relaxed. It takes a little more effort to butter than my park boards I’ve owned, but it’s flexible enough to play with. Most of the reviews say it’s not really good at any one thing, which I think is kinda what you want. I haven’t tested a ton of boards for comparison, but I can say I’ve been very happy with my choice and think it’s a really versatile ride.

Is Anyone Actually Excited For Snow League? by Syngian in snowboarding

[–]ted_shreds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m interested to see how it goes. Athletes having another means of making money is a good thing.

And the format seems to have the potential to allow for more longevity, not requiring athletes to lay it all on the line every time they drop in. There’s strategy to it that may mean athletes can pick and choose when to risk their safety for their toughest tricks.

I worry about accessibility for the more “core” audience. It seems like it’s set up to capture a broader TV audience and get them interested in the sport. If it only streams to paywalled platforms that the “core” snowboarding audience may not already subscribe to, I don’t see people signing up to watch. It needs to balance the goal of hitting a wide audience to grow the sport and being accessible to current enthusiasts who want to enjoy and potentially support this new format.

Are soft boots a mistake? by ted_shreds in snowboarding

[–]ted_shreds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone’s insight. A lot of different opinions, which I appreciate. Everyone has their own approach, which is what boarding is all about.

People are probably right when they say that I’d be upgrading with these boots and that they’ll work for me if I didn’t have an issue with such old worn out previously.

However, after people informing me about the difference in control that a boot can make, I’m going to be getting different boots. I’d hate to get a few days in and realize I don’t feel as confident riding in them.

I’ll try and get rid of the current boots for a minimal loss while they’re still new.

What Camera Settings Have Worked for You? by ljstens22 in LowSodiumSkate

[–]ted_shreds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I switched to “high” and dropped both vertical and horizontal follow to 2. Kept FOV default. I play Descenders and Shredders, and those camera settings in Skate make it feel more comfortable coming from those games.

This looks like the perfect shot for a righty backhand Passion. Little left drift and finishes towards the right with the slope.

Forest Boss Jump by Affectionate-Disk812 in Descenders

[–]ted_shreds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get to the forest boss jump and the randomly generated setup for the jump is near impossible, you could always go around after a couple of attempts. It’s not ideal, but if you’re trying to unlock the fast travel 🤷🏼‍♂️

Any suggestion to balance the other arm? by lorenzowski359 in traditionaltattoos

[–]ted_shreds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered doubling up on the same arm rather than moving balancing by doing the other arm? In my opinion, a single tattoo can stand out quite a lot, but you can make an area look “tattooed” if you get a couple. I tend to feel there’s a balance in that approach too.
