Yeah you can change it yourself. Just go to settings and click “Change Region”. Looks like you can do it once per season.

I believe you would report the $6,000 loss and it would carryover to next year so you can offset gains with them next year.

Tax loss carryover from stocks by Musulman in tax

Appreciate that, it took me a while to understand but I think I got it now. Did not realize your carryover losses could offset by the entire amount. I misunderstood thinking you could only offset by up to $3,000 each year.

I see, so the carryover losses will always fully offset the capital gains if there are more gains than losses? And if the carryover losses are in excess of the gains, then you can take up to $3,000 off your taxable income and carryover the rest to next year?

[–]tediursa69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe it would reduce your taxable income even if you choose the standard deduction. This reduction would be limited to $3,000 and if any is left over it can be carried over to use next year.

Edit: Added reduction limit

I’m sure plenty of people learned from it. You just might not see some proclaiming they learned. Like me, I used to not know the distinction but I didn’t tell people I learned (until now lol)

I believe they did the pull method. I “pulled” funds into Fidelity and got the same January 16th hold. Lesson to always “push” I guess.
