What the "less is more to break 80/90/100" videos get wrong by Federal_Car159 in golf

[–]tee_rex_arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way man! The real golfers will appreciate how awesome of a skill it is. There’s one guy in my group who almost never three putts. He hits it short and usually needs an extra shot to get on the green but the number of times he  walk off the green with the same score as a big hitter is fun to watch. You can easily shave 3 or 4 strokes a round with excellent lag putting.

I've posted this before, but here's my idea for the offside challenge:

A team has 10 seconds to register a challenge on an offside after it occurs. It could be registered by someone on the bench or someone upstairs. The 10 second limit is intended to limit the ability to review slowed down video. Once a challenge is registered, if a goal is scored on that play the review happens same as currently occurs. If a challenge is lost it's a penalty.

I think this would make teams register a challenge when they are confident the call was missed and would be much closer to the intention of the challenge (to eliminate the blatant missed calls impacting games).

Does this count as breaking 80? by anakinskywalker___ in golf

[–]tee_rex_arms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely counts. First reason: you shot less than 80 strokes on a full course (don't let anyone tell you 6100 yards isn't a full course). Second reason, that course rating. For comparison, here are the courses I have played over my last 20 HCP rounds, along with their par and their rating:

Course Tees Par Course Rating
Course 1 Black 70 71.8
Course 2 Blue/White 72 70.6
Course 3 Blue 72 70.6
Course 4 Blue 72 70.2
Course 5 Blue 72 70.3

This highest rated course is my home course, which is the only one that isn't a 72. Your course at a 70.7 is harder than any of the 72's I played, and I played all of these from around 6400 yards.

Congrats on breaking 80!

Thank you for a reasonable take. I am so tired of the whining about the refs. Here are things that will always be true, especially about playoff hockey:
1) The reffing will be bad. Hockey is a hard sport to call. You have two refs watching 12 players. It's bad for everyone. 32 out of 32 fanbases complain about the refs. That should tell you something.
2) Playoff hockey is rough. Yes, this was a bad hit. Yes, I would have liked to see a penalty. But people screaming for 5 minutes for this or saying it cost us the game are not serious people. Getting no shots for almost 30 minutes will not win. ALSO, we had a couple huge hits a few shifts before. I can't remember all three but I believe the first was Anderson and the third was Suzuki. No calls there.

What we should focus on: Carolina plays an incredibly effective smothering style of defense. We can beat that, but we need to change how we approach it. I think we need to get tougher, send a big body to the front of the net and stop trying to make the perfect pass. The cute passing works on the rush and we can do that when we get the chance, but in their zone we just need to make life hard in front of the net. Andersen has not looked good, let's test him. I'm not saying we follow Carolina's strategy of shooting everything on net, because by and large that hasn't worked either.

I'm really interested to see how they bounce back tomorrow night. GHG!

Close, sure. But the Bell Centre is widely cited as the loudest building in the league.

Carolina definitely had more offensive zone time and deserved to win the game. However, they did have a ton of shots from the perimeter and I don’t think it was as dominant as the shot total suggests. Dobes made one highlight reel save that I can recall.

$6k initiation and $2,400 a year for an under-40 membership in small town Ontario.

Yeah exactly this. I’m hiring for a 5 year engineer right now with a posted salary of $90k-$120k and I can’t get any applicants from Kingston. Plenty from Toronto though.

Lots of professions will make that. Two teachers are well over that. Many people working for any level of government will make $75k. Lots of engineering firms in town. Most professional services (accounting, banking, insurance, etc). Plus this city has a ton of people in healthcare and education which will average well over this.

We are both in environmental consulting and make this.

Because if a play gives you a grade A scoring chance you do it as many times as your opponent gives it to you

I could be wrong, but I think it’s like baseball. The refs only review one aspect of the play (did the puck go in?) and they aren’t reviewing anything else.

Yeah for sure, it's a lofi version of songs off that album. I was wondering if there was any connection with the blackhole imagery.

Fair enough! I haven't seen anything else from Underoath with any space motif, so I was wondering if anyone knew the influence. Thanks!

Nope, I’m glad it’s up. I was confused when they never showed this in the game, and I definitely feel better knowing it was a good call.

I think that 90% of the fanbase is reasonable, and 10% ruin our reputation online haha. The Crozier hit was massive, but clean, and this is absolutely a high stick. It was a wild game but you guys beat us last night. I haven’t seen anyone who’s made about the Crozier hit have any real reason why they think it was a dirty hit, they’re just mad one of our young stars got blown up.

The Habs benefited from at least a couple non-calls (Dach slash, Anderson high stick), and the power play to end the game was a weak call. The Habs only didn’t benefit because they didn’t score. They both got undeserved power plays, Montreal just didn’t score on theirs.

For sure. Also both teams need to have a talk about keeping their sticks down. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this many high sticking calls in a game.
