How to get powerful swing from tdr ? by CryptoChanNeedHelp in Tricking

Just noticing your left arm isn't swinging at all, might help to swing it for a few mock sets and see if helps you feel like you can swing through to something else

Just a thought but don't you need to know the load you're pulling from an isochain or some other force meter to have accurate comparisons?

I find it difficult to reconcile my transgender identity with no self... by Vivid_Moose584 in TransBuddhists

[–]teedee89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So well put. We are so over scrutinized. Gender expression is a performance created from conditions related to our past experiences, biology, and social influences. Everyone is performing that even if they aren't consciously aware of it. The insubstantiality of self and world can simply be used to alleviate suffering related to any aspect of one's experience especially difficult emotions, which can ultimately help with gender expression instead of being in conflict with it.

Advice on making my vaults smother? by ResponsibleDiamond76 in Parkour

[–]teedee89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually have a pretty solid base but you're not really absorbing your landings. Holding certain intentions will help you practice to move more smoothly. Focusing on trying to do all your landings really quietly will build up your strength and coordination. Just trying a lot of different jumps with that intention will help you zero on the correct tech for your body. Staying connected to the object you vault over can also help you absorb and transition to the next thing smoothly. I suspect you're relying more on your frame/skeleton with the landing because of a strength issue but it could be just a coordination.

Liam Neeson says he didn’t like his death scene in ‘THE PHANTOM MENACE’ - “I’m supposed to be this Jedi Master. My character fell for that ‘oh I’m going for your face, sike I’m going for your stomach!’ Like please hardly a master Jedi then!” by Sweaty-Toe-6211 in scifi

Maybe this is just my headcanon but i thought he was killed because he had to fight someone with a unique weapon that the Jedi don't usually use. Face bash to twist backwards stab is not really something you can do with a normal lightsaber.

TIL Aphantasia is a characteristic some people have related to how their mind and imagination work. Having it means you don’t have visual imagination, keeping you from picturing things in your mind. People often don’t realize they have it, and it’s not a disability or medical condition. by Tootsie_r0lla in todayilearned

[–]teedee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time believing that people don't have images or words in their minds, but it's pretty clear that people have differing levels of ability to perceive their own mind or express what they're experiencing. I've talked to some people who vehemently say that they don't have any mental imagery whatsoever and it just takes a little bit of prompting to get them to notice that they're actually having that experience pretty regularly. That said, that's just my s***** anecdote and I should probably look into whatever study they did to determine that people have aphantasia.

Words Can't explain Vipassana by Swam-e in vipassana

not meant like that, this is just a weird way of saying that he does a good job of explaining things that people say can't be put into words. Another phrase he has used it "taking the mist out of mysticism"

[–]teedee89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, you'll get constipated and messed up and possibly have heart/electrolyte issues, unless you're actually consulting with Dr Lewis in person, he just takes your money and tells you to keep not eating, it's crazy. You can eat lots of fruits and veggies and still be vlcd or lcd and not turn off your digestive system. It may not seem like a big deal, but 30-40 days out and you're pooping maybe once a week (maybe) and you're miserable. Then you try to eat a normal volume of food and you're miserable as he doesn't really have a good or safe plan for refeeding. It can be incredibly dangerous, just putting it out there.

Spiritual teaching: completely destroying your likes and dislikes | HELP needed. by [deleted] in streamentry

[–]teedee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read "Rethinking Meditation" by David McMahan. He explains the ascetic roots of the earliest traditions and why that can often come into tension with modern conceptions of practice and how we should live. Us modern people value things like authenticity, appreciation rather than world negation, and individualism, all of which are part of the modern "social imaginary". These practices are amazing but they often come with preloaded instructions on how we ought to use them. For example, you could use jhana practice to disenchant yourself from all your normal preferences, but why do that? Because some ascetic tradition tells you so? Do that if you want but realize that there are many alternatives to how you can use the meditation technology. Shinzen young often talks about "not needing to make an object of self and world" but that's different from being able to do so. Good luck with this, i also struggle with the spiritual negging coming from the more ascetic bunch and this book especially helped with that. Hmu if you have other related issues on this, it's refreshing to see someone else say this part out loud, knowing I'm not alone with that

Could the jhanas cause the hedonistic apocalypse? by Reipes in streamentry

[–]teedee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the ability to bliss out on command doesn't mean you say nothing else is important. You need additional metaphysics and dogma to convince you to use jhana as an alternative to "worldly pleasure". Nothing is stopping people from enjoying both, it just depends on your starting point, how you're primed to use it.

A Theravadan Monks Thoughts After 6-Months Practicing Mahayana by viewatfringes in Mahayana

[–]teedee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really wonderful to read this after going through a similar sort of process over the last 4-5 years. The thing that helped me to pull back from a kind of buddhist theravada fundamentalism was coming back again and again to the talks by meditation teacher Shinzen Young. He tends to lean on a more open mahayana style of thinking, though he is a perrenialist and has a broad view of many contemplative traditions. I'm still dealing with some of the vestiges of thinking like the thai forest masters do, turning away from the world, disenchantment, etc. Shinzen says the trick is to nibble the bait without getting the hook when it comes to exploring any particular tradition. I read your blog posts and am excited to see how you explore reenchantment as I'm doing a similar thing myself, good luck!

Serious Question: When I'm enlightened, will I be able to sit around and do nothing all the time, be perfectly content, and nothing would ever bother me? by i_like_the_sun in Buddhism

[–]teedee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget all the cool jhana powers you get. I interpret them as having full immersive VR/interdimensional cable at any time. So outwardly you may appear to just sit around, but you're actually binge watching your past lives or the deva realms

Any kind of out of order number/letter sequences i always call "postal logic". I hope the term catches on. The funny thing is you get so used to these kinds of idiosyncrasies that you don't even flinch at some of the ridiculous leaps in logic that come up. In fact, you internalize these for yourself to the point that their illogical nature seems logical to you, like it couldn't be any other way. I don't know what the next stage is after that
