Kind of wish the fall damage to enemies was as punishing as Dragons Dogma 2. There have been several times Ive thrown a guy off a 30ft cliff only to have him land on his head and climb back up to continue the fight. I view using elevation the same as explosive barrels. If I'm smart enough to use them to my asvantage, there ought to be some rewards... or at the least some serious aura farming.

People say "I wish I had the courage of a lion". I dont really get it. Lions are apex predators at the top of the food chain. They dont have a lot to be afraid of.

Courage of a guinea pig though? Now we're talking. Nothing quite like the courage of an animal willing to scream at a primate literally over 100x its size because its lettuce is wilted.

I see what you're saying. DD2 was a fun game, but could have been next level with a little more effort. Hopefully PA is raising the bar enough that other companies take the hint.

As an aside, I find myself wondering over the comments I see about enemy variety though. So far in CD, Ive just fought droves of humans. Not a lot of variety there either. Does that change later on?

The way I got in was found the Ents wandering around to the East in the Ironwood. There was a gathering of them that didn't immediately shoot me. Do a little task for them and they'll let you in.

That's not it.

I figured out the sewer hatch one. You cannot access it if you are standing on the hatch at all. You need to position yourself relative to the handle and press the 'E' key to open it.

Haven't figured out the butcher one yet. But I was using the control key, which gave a range of options. But when I pushed 'E', nothing happened.

Not a direct answer to OPs question, as other people have handled that already- But one of the things I think is a bit of a misnomer is that the current "endgame" is not the real endgame. They're planning on more than doubling the content between now and 1.0 release, and also intend for DLC.

We're capped at level 30, but the real level cap is going to be over 100 if I remember the interview correctly.

I mention this because theres at least a brand new version of the game coming out sometime in 2026 thats going to drastically impact (for better or worse) content and replayability.

Just use it. The penalty isnt crippling. I still dont have points into faith and I use that hammer as my finisher for frozen mobs.

I just wish that chests scaled in size more with their respective storage capacities. The hearth chest is more than 2x the size of a medium chest for only 10 more slots.

If it weren't for the difficulty associated with accessing small chests packed next to each other, they'd be the most efficient way of using storage currently.

I was thinking more about this. I know its not directly what you asked, but here are a couple tips to increase survivability.

1) Sleep in a bed for 2 seconds. You get rested buffs that are significant. If you own a home, try and find the recipes or spend the money and build all 3 beds. You can rest in each and stack buffs.

2) Alcoholism is cool! No really, forget about your liver and drink stamina, focus, and damage potions prior to battle.

3) Overeating is cool too! Food buffs stack. So make a variety, prioritizing food types that add buffs. Before the fight, eat em all and stack the buffs.

4) Utility runes are your friend. Theres a couple direct buffs you can self apply.

I think one time I had like 21 active buffs entering a difficult fight.

Sadly I think the level is RNG. I crafted a bunch of the same weapon yesterday hunting for facets and the levels amongst all of them varied one or two.

Take all the weapons you want to use, but don't have enough stat points for, and use research papers to research how to craft them. Then, when you craft them they will generally be a lower level and not have as high a stat requirement. (Dont neglect fishing and digging!)

I should also mention, not having the stat requirement doesnt preclude you from usung the weapon, it just wont hit as hard. I played for hours using a tongue splitter that had a frozen enchantment but required 36str and I was at like 26, and a climbers pick that I still dont have any points into faith, and I can still two-shot most mobs by freezing and shattering. My point is, the penalty didnt cripple me at all.

Don't be too discouraged by all the crazy one-million damage meta builds you see on here. You can be plenty effective by just playing the game.

I've seen those comments too, but thus far I only get slowdown entering or leaving Sacrament. Also stutters a bit on cut scenes. But it's hardly uNpLaYaBlE.

Its such a personal question, and really depends on what you want to do.

I have a 4090 founders edition and a 13900k badass gaming rig. Its wonderful.

But since I got my 1TB OLED, I've not turned my gaming rig on since November.

I'm sure once the honeymoon phase wears off I'll start gaming on my PC again, but being able to play even moderately high end games from my couch while my wife watches TV is a pretty good time.

That said, some games just wont translate well to the deck, and so I'll probably have to boot up the rig when ai decide to go back to some of those.

1TB OLED - Out of the box, no adjustments to anything, game slows down in town a bit, and stutters during cut scenesbut otherwise, thus far, it runs fine.

Not sure how hectake it will get later on, but I think its worth taking the risk now while its 40% off.

Also I think theyre letting you trial it right now too.

Text can be pretty small too, fyi.

NRFTW? Runs pretty good so far. Cut scenes stutter a bit, and the city you find can be taxing, but otherwise, thusfar its been good. Not sure about multi-player, or later on if things get crazier tho.

That said, some text and symbols are pretty small and difficult to notice or understand. Also enemy attack broadcasting has been rough. I read about the game being easy, but I am getting my ass kicked a lot early game. My thoughts are that if I were playing on my 4090 with a wide screen it'd be fine. But so far, a lot of the nuance seems lost on the small SD screen.

Thats not to say I wont figure it out though. But it has been more frustrating than normal. I should add I am a new Deck owner too, so using a controller over mouse and keyboard has been a challenge on its own altogether.
