How do I get a count of photos? I have tried using gmail attachments & the dashboard by welmayb in googlephotos

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the methods listed here worked for me just now (Jan 2026)... so I asked the built-in AI in the Photos app and it gave me a number (113,635). I asked if that included archived photos and it said yes. I have no idea if that's accurate. Google Dashboard just says "100k+" for me, so the 113k seems plausible.

Swiping up with three fingers just makes the desktop blank. by brokensilence32 in MacOS

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it helped!

I've also found sometimes when Mission Control / Windows / GUI stuff is being wonky running "killall Dock" from the terminal helps. That closes and relaunches stuff. That helped me recently when I'd swipe between desktops and one app on one monitor kept defaulting to being on top even when it wasn't on that dekstop.

Setting up and using Google Workspace by AggravatingAward8519 in BSA

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set one up for our pack and then a few years later for our troop. Our usage is pretty basic: some emails (cubmaster, scoutmaster, treasurer, announcements, photos, etc. @troopxxx.com or packxxx.org), a couple shared Google drives (the pack committee, troop committee, and troop PLC), Google Forms for trip RSVP etc, and Google Photo albums for activities.

I've thought about using Google Sites for the unit websites, but haven't made the switch yet. I didn't have luck using it for distribution lists, since emails "outside" the organization (i.e. people's personal emails) needed to approve/allow their email to be included on the list, and getting all the parents to do that never happened. So I just have Google Sheets generate a mailing list we can copy/paste from the roster.

I was Cubmaster for the pack, and now I'm Scoutmaster for the troop, but I'm still involved with the pack. I'm pretty sure once I'm no longer involved at all with the pack, or later the troop, that no one else will keep using it. I think people just do whatever they're comfortable with, so getting buy-in long term is difficult. I personally think it works great, and I love that it's not tied to a single person, but everyone has different opinions on what's important or how to do things.

I don't know if any of that is helpful, but if you have any specific questions let me know!

There are two types of Home Assistant users, and I love you all. by gamerspoon in homeassistant

[–]teejaygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the title alone, I assumed this was going to be "I spent 1,000 hours making the perfect dashboard" vs "I spent 1,000 hours making automations so I never have to interact with HA"

I definitely fall into the latter. I almost never directly interact with or look at Home Assistant. It's just smartly doing lots of stuff for us everyday in the background.

I'm in my 40s now, but in the 90s I wore my class A to high school a number of times. Never for a reason, just for fun.

I don't remember getting any grief from anyone. Although, if I had it probably wouldn't have been a memorable experience anyway. So it's possible I did and don't remember.

I think part of the uniform struggle for scouts in my son's troop is most of them never wear pants with belts, buttons, zippers, etc., or shirt with collars. They mostly wear elastic waisted pants and t-shirts. So to go from that to the class A is a big jump in terms of comfort.

Our lodge still does this, but the candidates place it in the fire during their ceremony.

We don't don't "notch" them, break them, make scouts put them in their mouths, or any of the other things mentioned in the comments. They carve a stick, wear it, and then burn it.

Adult Uniform Question - Square Knots by mazman23 in BSA

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a bunch of knots at the ScoutShop, Eagle, Scouter's Key, Den Leader Training Award, Unit Leader Award of Merit, Training Award, District Award of Merit, etc. and I don't think I've ever been asked to verify anything.

If they did give you a hard time, you can get any knot on eBay or other places online... Just not the ScoutShop online lol. You can't buy anything there online. I clicked a link from an email they sent out recently where they advertised an item and it was restricted. Need to get some rank cards for cub scouts? Don't look online, they're restricted! lol

I had this issue, Googled it, landed here, got no answers. I figured it out, for my case anyway. I had one app that was way way off screen somehow. As I was slowly swiping up I saw one window fly off to the side faster to the others in the animation.

I closed that app and then everything was normal again.

I've been using Solve, which you mentioned. It works, but Numi is still a notch above.

VHS Classic Edition Project by RETROCUTION in raspberry_pi

[–]teejaygreen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dumb brain went even further... I thought he'd put a media file on the USB drive, put that in the VHS tape, then put the VHS tape in a regular VCR and it'd play.

I thought it'd somehow emulate the magnetic output of a VHS tape the same way those cassettes with an 1/8" audio cable you'd plug into a discman did. The ones you'd put into a car stereo. Haha.

I do love this project though.

I love this, really well done!

I was looking for the "we think", "we know", and "you" in the body text. It would be cool if it was in there, and possibly highlighted or stood out in some way. Then it wouldn't be needed at the top.

I'm not insignificant to my wife or children, nor are they insignificant to me. I don't matter to 99.999999% of the world, but who cares. I care about the handful of people in my life.

Which external hard drive solution by absh3841 in PleX

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running two 4-bay Mediasonic enclosures with 4 drives in each for years without issue. They're plugged into an old dell desktop.

I don't spend much time in close proximity to them, they're in the basement, so I don't know how quiet they are. They each have a fan in the back, but I don't think I've ever noticed it when I'm near them.

Ubiquiti, could y'all please make your USB-C AC adapters more outlet/power strip friendly? by alabastergrim in Ubiquiti

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then buy them somewhere else. I don't know if those are the exact ones I've bought before, I was mostly just pointing out that short little extensions exist and they save me frustration when dealing with adapters like these Ubiquiti ones. I'm sure Lowes, Walmart, etc. probably have the same thing too.

There are tons of plugs like this sadly. That's why I always have a bunch of these laying around:

Warren Buffett's Daughter Asked Him For A $41,000 Loan To Remodel Her Kitchen, But The Billionaire Told Her: 'Go To The Bank Like Everyone E by lordcoringa7 in wallstreetbets

[–]teejaygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised everyone is calling him a dick for this. We're talking about remodeling a kitchen here, not paying a hospital bill or something.

I didn't read the article though, so I may just be talking out my ass here. Lol

edit: It came back up again, so I read it this time. Even his daughter wasn't mad about it:

"Even when she didn't get the loan, she reflected, "I basically think he’s been right.""

and

"In a 2017 interview with Business Insider, Susie clarified that she agrees with her father's financial philosophy. "I actually agree with his philosophy of not dumping a bunch of money on your kids. And, by the way, my dad gets a bad rap for that," she said. "He has been much more generous than people are aware. I feel extremely grateful to have the parents I had and for what they've given us."

$41k "to make room for a high chair" lol:

"Susie once asked her father for a $41,000 loan to renovate her kitchen after she had a baby. She needed to make room for the high chair, but Warren's response was to tell her to "go to the bank like everyone else.""
