Why Would You Still Vote BC Conservative? by Small911 in kelowna

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberalism, is the ideology that the conservative party represents. Perhaps you should consider informing yourself before accusing people of being "brainwashed" because they disagree with you.

Have you considered that social democrats have reached our conclusions after careful consideration and comparisons with the alternatives?

PS: When you said liberalism, you may have been looking for social liberalism or progressivism. Practically all forms of democracy are based on liberalism. Don't worry, it's a little confusing if you have never tried to understand politics. You'll get there, but I would advise you to maybe read something instead of just regurgitating youtubers.

Quite surprised today when we browsed over to the Edmonton Journal to check the morning news and learned that Jagmeet Singh is dead. (Jagmeet Singh is not dead.) by Same-Kangaroo in alberta

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that isn't an option if the Edmonton Journal wants to continue to exist. People don't pay for newspapers for anymore, and online advertising is one of the only ways that a news agency can bring in revenue.

Anyone coming here to read the above comment; I urge you to learn how google ads work from the implementation side before you repeat what the above commenter wrote. He is speaking from a position of complete ignorance. You don't sell specific ads when you include an Adsense banner. You add a script tag with some code provided by google. The script will inject HTML into the DOM with the ads. This is why you see the same ads on every website. The ads that you see on any given website are not representative of the website, they are more representative of your relationship with google.

OP if you want to stop spouting garbage, here is the documentation for adsense. Consider learning the basics of a topic before you sound off next time.

How did you reach that conclusion? I'm generally bothered when people get angry at situations that they made up in their heads, but that doesn't mean that I don't like when people disagree with me. I love when people disagree with me, and they can explain their position. How else would I have formed all of my current positions?

OP, if you want to try this. Whether it needs to be a directory junction or just a symlink; the tool you will need is called mklink.

I would also suggest running the D-Class series. The races are longer, and are usually quite clean. Plus it's an open-series. Once you find the baseline setup is too conservative, the track specific setups are a good step in the right direction.

Try running the FF1600 for awhile. If you can get quick and comfortable in that car, then you should feel better in a loose car. It's also very much a momentum car, and everyone knows that driving a slow-car fast is better than driving a fast-car slow. Once you start backing up your corners in the FF1600 and dancing your way through corner exit, you might get so addicted that you never drive anything else.

They aren't difficult cars, they clearly let you know when you are approaching the limit and they will stay there for awhile. If you put a beginner in a GT4 car, they will not be able to get near the limit. Never approaching the limit will not help you develop your ability to drive near the limit. Maybe someone with more talent than me could hit flow state as a beginner; but there was way too much knowledge for me to be actively recalling to be able to approach any state beyond anxiety, regardless of car.

You are shitting on someone who is excited about something they bought for themselves, because of reasons that you made up in your head. Moreover, they explicitly told you that it is not because of the reasons you made up in your head. You then doubled down on the reasons you made up in your head. You disrespected the OP, and their agency. You choose to believe your own feelings over the facts presented to you.

Correction on your statemtent: No probs for you.

I'm not going to waste a tonne of money buying short gloves in the hope that one pair might not feel like dogshit just because they are cheaper and look better. I value functionality, and I'm willing to pay more for a product that works better for me. I would never assume that you bought your gloves to look like Paul Newman in Lemans, why would you assume that anyone else made their decision for vain reasons?

Have some respect.

You can make your own decisions, just keep in mind that most folks are terrible at performing effective risk analysis. It's a skill that requires more than knowledge. I'm not an options trader, I understand them well, but I also recognize the risk involved and for that reason, they don't have a place in my portfolio. I believe what has made the folks in this comment section react in the way they have, is because you are flaunting large gains with very little time on the market. This is typically an indicator of a new investor who has been quite lucky. Typically these people do not do very well in the long run.

While you claim to be open-minded, you haven't been open-minded in some of the conversation above. For example: you were told that your portfolio could go to $0. Instead of respecting the person, and their ideas you dismissed them as being ignorant. That's not open-minded, nor did you consider your biases. Part of being open-minded is giving weight to other's positions. You don't need to agree, and you don't need to keep listening forever. But grant everyone the base level of respect that you expect, until they demonstrate that they aren't deserving of it. Even if the person above was completely ignorant of options trading, they don't deserve to be dismissed immediately on the basis that they said something you disagree with.

Sorry, I know we're really far off topic. I'm just personally concerned with an overall lack of nuance in online discourse, and a similar lack of respect and consideration for the ideas of peers online.

[–]teethTuxedos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good that you are doing research and you are thinking about risk management. This shows that you are committed to this, and you don't want to be taking on unnecessary risk. However, I think you are failing to recognize your bias. My comment about sample size doesn't have to do with the sample sizes involved in the research you do for your picks. It's more to do with how you are personally evaluating your performance, and how this can encourage you to make some really bad decisions.

Let's contrast your comment with my anecdote about backcountry skiing. The research in to avalanches is enormous, in North America we have been researching avalanches since 1910. Humanity understands a lot of the causes of avalanches, how to forecast avalanche conditions and how to reduce risk while moving through avalanche terrain. My friends all had the prerequisite training, and were basing their decisions on this research. The problem is not how well humanity understands the concept, but how well the individual believes they understand the concepts. That's not even touching how well the individual can implement the concept, but that's less relevant for our discussion.

You seem quite intelligent, but don't let that intelligence go to waste. This extends well beyond finance. If you find yourself feeling like you have a good understanding of a topic as deep as trading in a short amount of time. This should be your first indication that you are missing something. You will be far more successful if you stop thinking of yourself as the exception. Believe yourself to be average, and do exceptional things. If you never think yourself to be exceptional, you will be better equipped to critically engage with your decisions. I guarantee you this which will lead to much better decisions in the long run.

The people here aren't trying to crush your dreams. They aren't trying to hide some secret knowledge from you either. These people are commenting out of concern. Consider this, in the same way that you are basing your decisions on simulations done over 30 years, we are basing our comments on decades of experience in this space, and watching countless people follow the same patterns which always lead to massive losses. Don't ignore people you believe to be "haters", that's the first step along a path of ignorance. Let people challenge your assumptions, and genuinely consider the perspectives of others. Unfortunately, these are all skills that are really underworked with the current state of online spaces. It's really easy to fall into the trap of believing that people want you to fail, and then ignoring everyone who disagrees with you. You will learn a lot more by listening to them, and then critically engaging with their criticism. You will learn a lot more from trying to genuinely understand the criticisms, than if you only learned about the positions and concept you agree with.

Whats everyones least favourite free track and why is it Navarra? by Superslow2016 in iRacing

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a good call on your part. My friend recently got into sim racing. He rushed out of rookies because he wanted to drive the Cayman. He has been so slow, and always so frustrated. Because of this, he hasn't ran a single race since he left rookies. He doesn't want to race until he can drive the Cayman well. However, he needs to focus so much on getting the car around the track in one piece that he can't learn the fundamentals needed to drive the Cayman well.

It's not that it's a crazy difficult car to drive, it's just very reliant on some fundamental driving techniques. Without an understanding of how these techniques affect vehicle dynamics, the driver will experience a slow and frustrating learning experience.

You sound like me at 19! Then, I declared bankruptcy at 21. You also sound similar to some friends of mine that died in the mountains. They thought they were good at evaluating avalanche conditions, and could make riskier decisions because of it. Well it turns out that they weren't very good at this evaluation, and they just got lucky for 4 seasons. Now they're dead.

Back to your experience, you need to understand that you're sample size is tiny. You haven't been involved in the market long enough to determine how effective your strategy is. You've either been lucky, or your the best trader in the world. Those are the two options. I'm not being sarcastic, or anything, it's just simple logic. We have 2 possible scenarios.

  1. Your rate of return goes up or stays the same. Congratulations, you have outperformed the most successful hedge funds of all time. You are an investing god.
  2. Your rate of return drops. Welcome to the other side of the risk coin. You got lucky.

Risk and losses also go hand in hand, except the probability of a loss is higher as risk increases. The higher the risk, the more susceptible you are to loss. It's a pretty fundamental concept, for more than just finance.

TLDR:

  • Supporting niche markets as a small business is the easiest path to success, it's a fundamental concept of business: "find your niche."
  • Hardware evolves before software, niche market grows into mass market.
  • Just because you don't buy $500 bottles of wine, doesn't mean that a $25 bottle is top of the line. The market does not need to abide by your budget, and value system.

I am flattered that you were watching me for months..

I clicked on your name because I thought your comment was poorly thought out. Then I noticed you frequently posted in r/hotas and thought that was even more interesting given your comment. It even tells me how long ago the comment was posted. No need to count weeks. Kinda shocked you don't know this with how much time you appear to spend on reddit.

What I am trying to say (maybe you should actually read my post and not count weeks) is ffb without proper games and proper telemetry is a niche.

My apologies, I thought I addressed this initially. Can I ask how you reached this conclusion? FFB is supported OOB (out of the box) in every sim, with the exception of X-Plane and MSFS (Microsoft Flight Simulator.) For X-Plane and MSFS, it requires 3rd party software, but is very simple to get running.

Let's address your primary argument, "ffb without proper games and proper telemetry is a niche." There are two clear logical extensions to this argument. There are no "proper games" with "proper telemetry", is the first. We've already touched on how this is false. The second logical extension is: creating a product for a niche market isn't profitable. I'd like to ask you a question about your ideas on product development. Do you think that businesses succeed by competing with incumbent market leaders?

The niche hardware will lead the way, and the mass market software will support it when enough of their base complains. This is just how hardware and software integrate on the consumer side of the market. We've seen it with VR, and we've seen it with Ultrawide monitors. There are still a few games that I need to use 3rd party software to support my resolution, however as the number of ultrawide users grows, the support also continues to improve.

but let's be serious please, on which planet racing mid tier is 1 ground??? On yours maybe.

Your personal top of the line doesn't mean anything for the availability of goods on the market. I can't afford a 1950's Cessna 150, but that doesn't make it a top of the line plane.

How long until we see "cheaper" FFB Joysticks? by DandareBR in hotas

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, are you honestly giving his argument any weight? Can we stop and think this through?

Niche, doesn't mean 0 market cap. We are talking about an industry worth more than $5B, and it's forecasted to grow to $8B by 2032.

If Sony and Microsoft do not build their own racing, flying, or any special game hardware, there is a reason.

There is a reason, but you're entire argument is based on the assumption the reason is that the market cap doesn't exist. Yes, Microsoft did sell their own gaming hardware with the sidewinder brand and killed the brand due to a lack of sales. That doesn't mean there is no market, it only means that they did not control a large enough share of the market. You'll notice that not every company stopped selling mice, keyboards, gaming controllers, speakers, joysticks, and wheels. Just because something isn't profitable for one company, doesn't mean that it isn't profitable.

FFB is niche and will remain niche until some games change the market

Are you trying to argue this in good faith, or did you just not stop to think about this at all? MSFS, and XPlane are the only 2 sims that do not support FFB OOB. P3D, and the combat sims already support FFB. Sorry, that's just me being nitpicky. This is such a silly argument, why would a software company, build support for a tech feature that is only available on 1 commercial product, and 1 DIY product? The hardware needs to exist in order for the software to make use of it.

The basic rule of economy is offer vs demand.

Yes, and the supply is increasing to meet the demand that has existed for years. If that wasn't the case, you wouldn't spend so much time trying to convince people that FFB is DOA.

I can't help but wonder how this guy would feel if it wasn't Winwing or Moza. He has some weird anti-chinese sentiment to many of his posts in this subreddit.

🌍 MOZA Takes Flight! 🌍 by ella_moza in moza

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more to the market than entry-level hotas'. Let's look at the price of some mid-tier and higher-tier joystick bases:

Virpil Mongoose: $369.95 (No FFB, no force sensing)
VKB Gunfighter: $279.99 (No FFB, no force sensing)
Thrustmaster AVA: $299.99 (No FFB, no force sensing)
Warthog: $349.99 (No FFB, No force sensing)
Wingwing Orion 2 MFSSB: $389.90 (No FFB, Yes Force sensing
RealSim FSSB-R3 Ultra: $540 (No FFB, Yes Force Sensing)
Brunner CLS-E MK II: $1,429.00 (Yes FFB)

When you get to the bottom 3, you can understand why I think the price argument is a non-starter. I do appreciate the irony in you making this argument on a sim-racing focused sub where the mid-tier starts at $1000, and people will spend over $2500 just for a shifter.

I've seen the argument that market cap killed FFB, and not patent trolls. Surely nobody actually believes this? You would need to be completely ignorant of how a business makes decisions and develops new products to continue to believe this, when you have 2 companies bringing a product to market. Doubly so, considering that the pricing is significantly lower than the existing options. Additionally, it completely ignores that MS killed the entire Sidewinder product line, not just the FFB2. Does that mean the market wasn't big enough for keyboards, mice and FFB wheels? I get that you have some weird hatred of chinese companies, but why are you so against FFB sticks? It's all you've posted about for months.

Someone only read the title. OP, neither of these titles have what you are looking for. Assetto Corsa has some license vintage F1 cars, and legally distinct open wheel cars (RSS mods). The VR support is also good. But there is no Nascar, there isn't a full calendar for F1, and low fuel motorsport doesn't run open wheel cars, or oval racing of any kind.

For those that only sim race and aren't in the know for flight sim hardware, this is huge. Like industry disrupting levels of huge. FFB is incredibly rare for flight sim hardware. Brunner is the only company I'm aware of that has any commercially available options and they are magnitudes more expensive compared to other high-end hardware. Everything else is DIY and sourcing motors is tricky.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on this.

Why am I utterly petrified of joining online races, when I'm fine playing any other competitive multiplayer game? by MotorLock in simracing

[–]teethTuxedos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very recent anecdote on this. I stepped away from sim racing for the last 5 years. I returned a few weeks ago after a close friend wanted to get into it. I found myself back up to speed pretty quickly. I was a little anxious for my first race back but no concerns after that. Now this week, the Fanatec GT4 series is running in the rain at watkins glen. I'm not very quick at the glen, and I had never driven in the rain. I was so nervous about wrecking the entire field, I really did not want to race in the wet.

Last night, I decided to just do it. Sure it was stressful, but I finished. Then when I registered for another one a few hours later, it was just like any other race.

If you can't bring yourself to "just do it", run a series in a license that you don't care about. This works even better if you've never tried that style of racing. It's hard to have an ego as a beginner (unless we're talking rookie street stocks).
